winning same player and losing motivation

I posted about losing but now post about winning :) Anyways I play this guy regularly (but not for awhile though) and he kind of used to text me telling me that he will demolish me or bring your A+ game etc... and that only fueled me to focus and play with a purpose... and I ended up winning (and with style :) but more i play i would win but win ugly.... and the feel of winning went down and really didn't care much and just being out on the court was good to pass time... I think i win ugly to defend my territory now since he wasn't able to pass it... but the initial win i got with style in the beginning I thought it was going to be like that always but wasn't the case.... i guess its kind of like drug addicts who says they are always trying to experience that first high they got... or chasing rainbows etc... seems winning isn't really all that great feeling... but if I lose... then that winning becomes more bitter sweet again.. kind of endless cycle of short lived satisfaction.

Maybe you should go to rehab? But when you beat someone you have never beat, someone who trounces you all the time, then that is the ultimate high for a couple of hours.

i have a whole new perspective of tennis after reading these boards i am unsure if i like it.

I think order of importance should be:
1. Fun
2. Fitness
3. Friendships
4. Winning
5. Skill development

I started playing last summer with my buddy (both never played and do not care about tradition and technique). We both really enjoyed it and were evenly matched. Ultimately the winner was the guy who was less hung over that day or who wanted it more.)

After time, we hooked up with the pros at Northstar and learned proper tennis. It is interesting because we both understand tennis strategy and have our individual strengths. Even with weapons, sometimes you win sometimes you loose.

This season, i have dominated another buddy. Last Thursday i beat him 6-0 and 6-2. He calls me talking trash on Saturday and beats me. He wanted it more that day and his play showed it.

how old are you? 14???

28 but apparently i have a different mindset than most of the guys on here. I understand this is the "competitive" area of the site, but it seems like some of these guys are winning or loosing $100K each point.

I am laboring thru these threads in preparation for my first tournament may 15th.

I think figham was reffering to the OP, and not you.

I agree with you on your priorities, but I would place skill development over winning.
