Winning with your weakness!

In this situation will you go with your weakness or strength?

The moonball discussion reminded me of this importance of winning with your weaker shots when possible. Let's say we have 2 RH 4.0 players with equal records playing each other. You have a better FH than BH and so does he. Your BH is better than his BH and his FH is better than your FH. So, are you going to go with your strength and force deuce court crosscourt rallies or go with your weakness and force ad court crosscourt rallies? Discuss.

I'll be hitting to his backhand mostly. If mine is better than his, and my forehand is better still he won't be able to hurt me..

Excellent, Verbal! If you can get away with hitting inside out FH's crosscourt, do it. The risk being you are now giving away more open court to allow him to maneuver you into a FH crosscourt rally. But, he will have to change the direction of the ball first to do it, a lower percentage shot. So, you are each taking a risk to gain or maintain an advantage.

I'm not saying I'll be hitting only forehands, just that I'll be directing most my shots to his backhand side. I don't mind hitting medium-paced crosscourt backhands that vary in spin at all. I will be taking position a little to my backhand side though, so I can use my forehand a little easier.

If his backhand is worse than mine I don't have to be afraid of it. When he does get it down the line, it probably won't be too fast. He'll give me an angle to really get him running. He'll get a hard forehand, which will probably give me a good approach opportunity. Because I have anticipated this and have moved a little into the court I'll have a lot of options, dtl, a short angle, and it looks like the perfect moment for a dropshot. ;)

I'd try and get him with inside out forehands, and if engaged in a backhand rally, I'd try to cause him trouble by mixing slice and topspin.

Hit to his forehand, so what if it is a little better, then go right after the backhand, anticipating a short ball or a weak reply, I have a lot of options then.

I would get into BH crosscourt rally and wait until he runs around his BH and hit FH, then I would either hit to his duece corner or crossing to his ad corner, preferably with my running FH.

If you look at the match between Chris and John, you'll see that moon balls gave them a lot of troubles.

I'd say moon balls give majority of players in this place alot of troubles. If they say no, they're lying.

Ideally, I'd use my FH to hit to his BH, fully realizing that my opponent will be trying to do the same. I do not want to get into a FH/FH CC rally and he doesn't want to get into a BH/BH CC rally. The winner will be the one who is better able to execute opposing plans.
