Worked on Kick Serve tonight

Worked on kick serve tonight for the very first time. 5-6 serves and it was going in everytime. Was getting enough jump to make it bounce over the head of my 12 yr old but with no hard velocity. I'm guessing I need to lean harder into the serve to increase ball speed since I'm brushing up so hard on the overhand. I'd really like to work on it some more but for the first time in my life I started getting elbow pain from doing it tonight. Is this common since it is not my normal range of motion on the serve or improper technique?

Brushing up is good, but don't forget to go through the ball somewhat or else you'll get a very loopy topspin serve.

there is not bad about a very loopy topspin serve that kicks up real high. pace some times take away the kick. just know how to do both, and adjust accordingly to your opponent. if he is not too tall of is having a lot of trouble hitting shots that kick up to their shoulders, keep at it. if he can stand back and blast those back, then put some pace on it. and mix it up.

I love people who hit those high ones. My friend does it and it basically has no pace. All I do is stand at the service line for his second serve and hit overheads and hard slice overheads for winners. IF he got more pace on it and less spin I wouldn't be able to attack it as much.

To get more pace in your kick serve, tossing the ball a little further in front of you could help especially if you've been tossing it over your head right where you stand.
About the elbow pain, loosen up your arm and using your legs more might help. Sometimes we do muscle the ball too much with a certain part of our body to get the desired effect (in this case the high bouncing kick).

Interesting! I sometimes hit a Topspin serve which has no pace but goes up very high. Even with Good overheads that my serve is not easy to hit and often end up as service winner.

A topspin serve that goes up very high is much better than having no Second serve at all. To me that is natual progression.
1) No second serve
2) weak topspin second serve
3) Strong topspin second serve
4) Weak Twist serve for second serve.
5) Strong Twist serve for second serve.
..........and so son

So its nothing unusual.

i find it hard to spin it over with little pace but a lot of spin. my second topspin serve usually have some pace, i would guess 70+ mph, but its not the most reliable shot.

A kick serve is well worth learning. I get good results because of my kick serve and I'm a 5.0 after only 2 years of playing the game thanks in part to my kick serve that my coach of 2 years taught me.

Hmm you are tall, japanese and a 5.0 player. Let me guess you are living in Southern California and you have a short sister. :p

Me? What?!

And it's obvious that this new Kana isn't the old one, it's an imitation. I believe there was a TwistServe imitation, too. She's being sarcastic. I can't believe people make these usernames for a couple posts, similar to this "Kana" (three posts, types different) and the "Truth" username that popped up in two seconds.

Why me? I posted a theory AGAINST Kana before it got deleted with the thread, and I joined before Kelly or Kirisaki or anyone. Don't get me involved!

I'm sorry Rickson, but did you see that as a serious posts? It has a mocking tone, it's sarcastic. "I'm a 5.0 after only two years all because of my fantastic kick serve."

It was apparent to me, from the post it sounds like it should have been apparent to everyone. Also, if whoever it was was really "Kana Himezaki", if they wanted to be associated with Kana they would have used the full username.

Are you planning on associating everyone? In the "all courters" thread, I was completely supporting you.

Kana, let's stop playing games already. If you want to post as All court from now on, don't use any more user names. Actually, go back to Kana because you shouldn't have people believing you're all these different people.

I'm sorry, I'm not Kana. You have the wrong person, and are taking this too far. I'd ask why...but it doesn't look like you're paying too much attention to anything I'm saying, doesn't it?

Can you let me prove this? It's really infuriating to get involved in this without any real reason, is there some way I can get out?
