Worst match Federer has played

That match against brands in Gstaad was just awful. 2013 served some horrible matches for Federer.

That loss in Dubai for Berdych - I think he held match point in the tie breaker. Tsonga in Roland Garros, then Robredo as well.

Possibly 2013, Nadal would have shredded him in their respective forms.

murder.
Sorry but you know nothing about tennis if you think Federer or any ATG would tank a match (I could stop this sentence right here) just to avoid playing someone else.

His worst match, in terms of winning big points, was the final of Hamburg 2008, imo. I still don't understand how he managed to lose that match. 5:1, 40:30, serving for the set, missed a relatively easy forehand and lost five games in a row, out of nowhere.
Then he was a break up during the great part of the second set, but somehow lost his serve while serving (again!) for the set. Barely won it in a tie-break and eventually lost the third.

He completely collapsed mentally and it was still before the French Open 2008, so the Nadal factor was not that big at all. When you compare his execution on the most important points from the Wimbledon final 2007 (fifth set) and the Hamburg in the very next year, it is obvious that something had happened to him.

That was bad choke indeed. 2007 RG final comes to mind as well, he has had many 0-40 triple break point chances and couldnt convert as well as got broken when serving 40-0 ;) But best choke job of all was against Monfils in Paris SF lol :p

04 Olympics against Berdych might be it to be honest.

Of course he has many matches that were UFE horror shows but most of them weren't at his peak so the 04 Olympics UFE and serving horror show stands out. He lost some matches that year when he wasn't focused but usually the opponent played a great match too and he lost narrowly. The Olympics loss was just inexplicable, the very definition of a bad day I guess. He should theoretically have been focused for that match being the Olympics and all.

You're probably talking about this one:

Fed did look like himself in this tourney
cmon..Fed played well by his atrocious 2013 standards but at no point did he look like his real self. Federer got breadsticks the round before by Haas and barely won lol. 2013 was just such disaster year. Worst match Fed has played should exclude the whole year.

Lol...but he did bagel him in the other 2 sets. I guess Mirka must have been distracting him with her swearing and gum-chewing during the middle set. ;)
Hewitt played fine in the middle set and Fed's level dropped from whatever superhuman force had possessed him in the first set.

He was good in that one match against Nadal, though. Can we agree that much? Best match of Federer that year. That match proved the best of Nadal vs best of Federer at Cincinnati goes to Federer. Same applies to Halle, Queens, Rotterdam of old type of courts.

The worst I ever saw Fed play when he was healthy was the Miami match against Djoker where he broke his racket. That was abysmal.

Yes Federer did play quite well for parts of that match and the first set was definitely the best tennis he played all year. I don't know if I can say he played well the whole match though by his usual standards.

The match in Rome a month later was probably worse. Federer was up a set and nearly 2 breaks and then pissed the match away with UFE after UFE after UFE.
