Year's best clay match for Safin

I want to get the year's best match that Safin has played on clay on tape, but I am not completely sure which match had the best quality. I only watched some of his play at Roland Garros and IMO his match against Ferrero had the best quality of play for Safin. Were there any other matches at RG or in other clay events with better playing quality?

I don't think so. Although he did have his moments during that match.

I'd go for the Safin-Ferrero match. It had a lot of drama riding on it, since Ferrero had beaten him previously.

Plus, it's always great to see Safin win.

Do you think it is Marat's best performance on clay in his career? I'm trying to get his best performances on the different surface or slams on tape. So far, I own Safin vs. Federer Australian Open 2005 semifinal.

I just got it in stock and I have not personally watched it myself. However it was highly rated as an excellent five setter (in the top 20 five setters since 1999) by someone on the 'other' tennis forum. The score was (6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6) By the way, I just realised that you were asking for this years best Safin clay match. However I dont think there was a good performance by him on clay this year.

thanks, I'll check that Kuerten/Safin match out. There was not an overall good performance by Marat this year, but IMO there were single good performances. The ones that I remember are Safin's matches against Ferrero and Robredo(though I did not get to see much of it) at RG.
