Yeah, so you said on the Players section of the Board...are you trying to sell the product here? Two weeks of yoga won't turn one's serve into a "weapon". A change in technique, maybe. Tell me you aren't a b.s. artist or give me some more information other than so and so uses it. And celebrity endorsements don't tell me sh**.

Phil is right on. Any tennis player knows that miracles do not happend in short time periods in tennis. Your post does have all the signs of inappropriate promotion. Yoga is an excellent way to improve flexibility and balance but it will not result in stroke miracles in a few weeks time.

What would possess you to think that we are going to give any credibility to a first time poster schilling a product? Wait a minute, you're right, there's one born every minute.

as a first time user i am suprised people would critize the author of this topic in my opinion the author is a young person and if he are she gained confidience by using the yoga dvds and that person believes that there serve is more of a weapon then that is great for the student... the author didnt say what level they play so if they have more of a weapon now at there level then that confidience and there game will improve in addition to there strength flexiblity and core strenght.......... that is the bottom line get better..... i also use the dvds and love them cz they move very fast and are very challanging thanks

Another newbie promoting those yoga tapes but yoga is about holding forms and slow relaxing movements so "they move very fast" does not seem to be appropriate ?

Yoga can actualy be counter productive to a lot of activities. Yoga pushers fail to consider what happens to the opposing muscle when you stretch a muscle. For every muscle that you are stretching, there is an opposing muscle in full contraction. Quite often the opposing muscle will go into spasm at the 3 second mark and this spasm often lingers. Short repetitive 2 second stretching is far more effective and avoids this spasm.

Vin,
You can prove it to yourself in minutes. Try this. Bend down and touch your toes. Notice which side the hamstrings are tighter. You will most likely feel one side pulling at the base of your butt more than the other side. Now lay on your back and pull that shortlegs knee up toward your chin. Grasp the hamstrings with your fingertips by wrapping your hands around your leg. Squeeze the hamstrings and straighten your leg so that it is vertical to the floor. Hold that stretch for two seconds, release the pressure and bend the knee to slightly contract the hamstrings and then repeat. The pressure should only be applied while the the muscle is stretched during the two seconds. Walk your fingers right up from your knee to your butt, each time stretching, squeezing and holding for ONLY 2 seconds. Do about 10-12 reps or until you feel things loosening up. If it hurts, you are squeezing and stretching too far! Let pain be your guide and do not think that this has to hurt you. Get up and walk around and then bend over and touch your toes again and notice the difference. Sometimes with injured tissue, it can take up to 21 days to re-program the muscle so that it stays longer but then the brain will help keep it there.

Interesting, but 2 seconds still sounds too quick. Can you recommend any books on the subject?

I get good results from regular stretching and yoga, so it would take a lot of convincing to make me believe that they are not good methods for promoting flexibility and balanced joints. However, I'm interested in learning more about what you're describing.

hey vin i agree with you but look at this website www.sybelsyoga.com she the yoga teacher for haas sharporva and other athletes in many sports look at in the news there are several articles there of interest such as chancey billups of the detroit pistons he also uses here system of yoga... it does move faster than many other yoga i had ever done like for 3 deep breaths instead of 5 are even longer than most boring yoga classes but 2 seconds seems to be too fast almost arobics training.... the main point though i think is to defend the original author subject that if you are using something and it giving you confidence on the tennis court then in that case it it a good thing. i believe what ever gives confidience is a good thing to continue

wow this is the first time i had a chance to check the message board since i posted the original message. i am upset someone would think i was a bs artist are trying to sell a product. my coach has made several technique changes recently. he also made the suggestion to try sybels yoga dvds. he saw her presentation at the usptr convention and thought it was great. my coach thought this would be a good i idea based on my time commitments and my needs to improve flexibility etc. my point was i feel better and more confidience in myself and my tennis especially my serve. i thank my coach for being educated enough to make this suggestion and i really appreciate the feedback on this form thanks and be happy :)

No offense, but it's probably because there are a few new posters, including yourself, with similar style screen names, that are all of a sudden promoting this one yoga dvd.

Regardless of your intent, I appreciate the reference and I'll check out the dvd when I have a chance.

atatu, thanks for the link.

Atutu is correct. The Mattes book is a good place to start. At the beginning of this book he explains why. The best part though is that you can prove it to yourself so fast. Bear in mind though that shortened muscle and facia is a result of repetitive use and abuse. Sometimes it takes more than just the stretch and that is where pressure with the stretch is the key to healing.
