Yonex players - what are you using?

To those of you currently using Yonex racquets...what's in your bag?

Getting ready to demo a few racquets, two of which are the Yonex VCore Duel G 97 310 (for a 2nd time) and the Yonex VCore SV 98. I'm also going to demo the Wilson Ultra 100 (debated between this one and the Volkl 8 but eventually went with this one) because some have said it plays very much like the Wilson BLX Pro Open that I had some success with a few years ago.

For my 4th demo I currently have the Wilson Steam 99S (yellow) because I tried the old version and liked a great number of things about it. But having second thoughts (one of my demos won't be in for another 10 days so too much time to think) after thinking about some of the problems I had volleying with it...and it appears I'll be playing much more doubles now than singles.

Have tried the Yonex EZone DR98 and didn't care for the feel of the racquet (couldn't perform the touch shots my game relies on), it lacked a bit of topspin (which I need for dippers in doubles), and the ability to whip my crosscourt forehands just wasn't there with this racquet.

Just looking to see what others are playing with to see what Yonex racquets your having success with that might be in that 11 to 11.7 ounce range.

I guess I'm interested in Yonex because I long for the days when I used the RD-7, then went lighter to the RDX-500 Midplus (11.8 oz), and now wanting to move to something even lighter in the Yonex line and with just a bit more putaway pop.

Thanks.

I have a collection of all colors of Yonex's roundish triangle dampeners, I think they are really cute.

I've demoed DG310, 330 and DR98, I liked DG310 much better. For the SVs, I want to add lead at 3&9 but damn those fins.

Duel G 97 330g. It's a bludgeoning weapon to simple put. I love hitting 2 handers with it. Serving with it isn't too bad either! Probably my favorite frame out of all the racquets I've owned.

It's stock other than the Yonex stopper dampener and overgrip. weighs right in at 12.5oz. Guessing around a 340 SW.

A lot of DR98 users on the board I think. I'm one of em.

Could try demoing the extended SV98/DR98 also. Demos are up now.

Andy and Chris liked the 98+ so much they switched to it. Must be pretty decent.

Tried the DR98 but couldn't fall in love. Currently hitting the stiffer DR100. I recently demoed the SV98 but didn't feel it was better than my current DR100's.

What, in as far as stiffness?

I have many yonex rackets, I was using the rqis tour 1 for a while but switched back to my 95d. Recently I just picked up a MP 1 tour 90 and use that for my singles game. Floating around many yonex rackets haha

Awesome hearing all the love for Yonex racquets!!!

After playing some 4.5 dubs tonight with several racquets and having the most success with my Babolat Pure Strike 16x19, I've narrowed down exactly what I'm looking for in the perfect racquet....WHAT YONEX RACQUET MATCHES ALL OF THESE CRITERIA?

- 27"
- 97-100 square inches
- string pattern more open than the Pure Strikes 16x19 which seems pretty closed in the middle
- has a crisper feel than my Pure Strikes which feel a bit overly dampened and feel much more flexy than the 66 rating, even with Tour Bite mains
- weight I'd guess between 11.3 and 11.6...tried my Prince Original Graphite (12.0 oz) and loved it off the 2 hand backhand but serving was horrible and my forehands were slow (and the shoulder I just had a steroid shot last week because of adhesive capsulitis really didn't like the 12.0 ounce weight)
- swingweight between 315 and 323 or so
- at least a few points head light
- solid feel
- 24mm or less...tend to prefer thinner racquets

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I have 4 SV95's. Specs are 335 SW, 8.5-9 HL, and 347 Grams. Currently using a full bed of IsoSpeed BlackFire. I was stringing at 50lbs and felt that the experience was pretty mediocre as the stringbed felt like a car with a bad torque converter, meaning I would crank up my RHS, but find that the strings/frame just wouldn't respond well. But I recently cranked the tension up to 60lbs and now every facet of my game is working as, I think, it should be.

I was pleasently surprised to find that all 4 frames I now have, which I bought between November 2016 and April 2017 were measured and had the same specs as one another.

Agreed, Ive bumped my tension up to 55
I am only saying this until I can effectively swing + serve with a racquet of a 350~ SW for over 3 hours.

At that point, the recoil weight will be plush and comfortable no matter what string I put in. I could even put TourBite 1.35 at 70lbs and feel good. However, because of the lower-60 RA of the DR, I get more control than I would by using lets say a 67 or 71. And also, at a high swingweight, it seems that pro players value that extra dwell time over the pop because of the extra swingweight doing more work.

I felt the DR100 gave me more "Pop" than the SV98. The SV did generate quite a bit of spin though. It just didn't penetrate the court as quickly as a thumper from the DR100.

Duel G's. got twins of the 310 and 330. Both customized, love the thin beam and classic feel.

Indeed. The throat of the frame has a nice feel and like the slightly thinner beam compared to a lot of other frames out there.

DR98 310g. New user so still in the honeymoon period and on first set of strings, PolyTour Pro 125 at 53lbs. So far, I love it. Does everything I ask it to!

I've been playing the Ai100 for a couple years and it might be the one for you TripleB. The DR100 feels a bit faster through the air. I'm making the exact opposite change, going to the Pure Strike 16x19.

The only thing that worries me about the DR 100 is that I tried the DR 98 and it felt pretty muted to me which lead to horrible touch shots (one of my bread and butters). Moving away from the Pure Strikes because even at a 66 flex the feel is somewhat muted. What is making you move to the Pure Strike 16x19?

DR98 user here with Gamma Zo Verve 17g strung at 52/49. Love the flexibility of the racquet. No elbow or wrist issues.

I used to hit with the Wilson Steam 99s, but got tired of CONSTANTLY changing strings. The racquet itself is very stiff but because you have so few strings it doesn't feel that way.

@TripleB the Ai100s are just too powerful for me, and it is killing my confidence. Two things that I couldn't dial in with the Ai100s were the touch shots and the slice.

I've got an assortment of Yonex frames, including the SV 98, but what's in my bag are three stock DR98s strung with PTP 17.

Any crisp string recommendations on the DR98? I've been using soft strings just for the extra comfort.

2HBH, how do you like the hybrid strings in your Duel G? I see them in your sig line, arm friendly? I use a hybrid set up, but a multi and gut. Have had previous elbow and shoulder issues with poly.

Very arm friendly. Provides the perfect blend of power and control. The Yonex crosses are great and hold their tension well. I have plenty of access to spin too. I love the setup and I'll keep sticking to this setup until something beats it but I'm perfectly content with it.

Thanks man, I think I might try the ptp with gut next time. I love the bab gut in the Duel g, it's got awesome feel.

I've got a pair of Xi98's that I like quite a bit. Added a fair amount of weight to the handle and a little to the head. I think the head is stiff while the throat is flexy, so it offers stability/spin in a very comfortable package. I once had an Bab APD but it killed my arm. The Xi98 feels like butter in comparison.

For strings I use Yonex PTS. Great control, great spin, but what really stands out is the tension maintenance. The TWU data confirms as well. Very underrated string.

The only thing I wish I could change is a 100 head with the same soft layup. But all the Yonex 100's are pretty stiff. So for now I take the mishits.

I've been using the DG310 a lot lately. I'm actually switching to it after using Youtek Ig Prestige MPs for the last 4 years.

I've got several yonex racquets all modified with tungsten tape (3g) from 1 or 2 o'clock to 3 or 4 o'clock (depending on racquet) and 8 or 9 o'clock to 10 or 11 o'clock. I also add about 1-1.5 grams split just off each side of 12 o'clock (that way my stringer doesn't keep crushing the tungsten tape). I also have a combination of leather grips and overgrips on all the racquets and yonex vibration dampeners.

DR 98
RDiS 100 MP
RD-7
Super RD Tour 90 and 95 (just got these so haven't hit with them or made any mods yet)
Vcore 95D (this is the outlier weight wise at 394g (13.9oz))

The DR 98 started it all... :D:oops:

Ai98 x 3 in my bag. Two strung with Tonic 15g / Revolve 17g and one wet weather racquet strung with fully poly (Tier One Firewire at the moment). I replaced the stock grips with Gamma Hi-Tech replacements. Supergrap overgrips and head protection tape from 3 to 9. Tourna Sampras dampeners.

Glad to hear...it was one of two Yonex racquets (along with the SV98) I just ordered as part of a demo foursome!!!

I play with 2 DR100's bone stock. Hyper G 17 gauge strung at 50 pounds. Great power and stability with a large sweetspot. Pretty forgiving racquet for sub 4.5 players. I'm tinkering with the idea of putting a leather grip on to bump the head light number up a point or two.

I just bought a VCORE F 97 (310) as an introduction to Yonex frames. I typically buy older models on clearance.

Anyway I have it strung up at 50# with Mantis Comfort Poly. But it has a buzz to it even with a dampener on it. It was worse with a worm style and even worse without anything at all. I'm going to try the MCP at 40# and then maybe a poly/sgut hybrid to see if a softer stringbed helps. I'm finding the Yonex low powered compared to my Dunlop Bio 200 Lites - one strung with MCP @ 50# too, and another with nat gut/poly (MCP) hybrid.

Your thoughts on the tour g 310 and how do you compare it to the DR98? I own two 310s and have leaded them up at 12oclock and bottom of grip. I feel like the huge amount of weight in the throat packs a punch when attacking but weights me down on defence. Looking for something a little stiffer with more power and more even weight distribution. I cant seem to gel with the DR98. the throat shape just doesnt seem comfortable in my hand, I guess I'm used to holding flat or box beam frames.

I'm a clearance guy too. I have the same Tour 97. Strung at 52, forgot Yonex model string 850? Anyway like the racquet immensely. No buzzing at all for me. Low powered it is but I like it that way. Ken
