Yonex Poly Tour Pro 120 -only 9 hours play?

Firstly, I'm new on here, so go easy! I'm struggling to get a reasonable amount of playing time from my strings. I'm a 5.0, hard hitter, mix of flat and heavy top spin shots. Play with Yonex RQIS2 Tour strung at 60lbs. I love everything about the Yonex strings but on average, they only last around 9 hours playing time. Previously, I used Luxilon Savage - same thing.

Do you think it's the tension that's causing the strings to break quickly? My stringer informs me that 9 hours is about normal for my style of play. Then again at cost of re-stringing I'm not surprised he is saying this - I think I'm funding his Caribbean Cruise.

I might try lowering the tension with the Yonex strings but I found that when i did this with the Savage the tension drop after 8-9 hours was ridiculous and they played dead (to the point where you wished they would break).

Any help / suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

That's the problem with polys. A stringing machine would probably be in order unless you have a friend who will string them cheap.

Thanks - my friend let me use his machine but to be honest it took me ages and it was boring as hell to do! Maybe I should persevere with it. Sounds like this is a Poly problem.
Cheers dude.

thanks, I'm not too keen on how the thicker gauge feels. Looks like I will have to get over my self stringing issues.

Stringing gets less boring as you become more efficient. For the first few string jobs it took me more than an hour. Now I can do 30 or under on a $170 drop-weight machine, and I'm not spectacularly efficient compared to a lot of guys on here. I paid to have someone string my racquet twice, then did the math and bought a machine.

Your stringer is right btw, 9 hours is plenty with the yptp 120.

9 hrs is about right. i'm sure if you switched to syn gut you'd probably be breaking strings every 2 hours if not more frequently given the thin gauge you prefer. as others have mentioned, you have a few options.

- switch to a thicker gauge poly
- switch to kevlar mains
- buy a stringing machine and do it yourself

Most polys last about 9 to 12 hours before they go stiff, lose way too much tension, or become tinny or too powerful.

I would suggest what others have mentioned, get a stringing machine even if it's the cheapest one. You will definitely get your moneys worth.
