Yonex Regna 2024

I was lucky to get my hands on the 2022 Yonex Regna 98 and have been playing with the racquet for the last 6 months. I must admit it is an absolute blast to play with and my go-to full-time racquet now.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a new Yonex Regna coming out in 2024? From previous research it seems they only make one every 4 years but I thought I would still ask.

Currently using Solinco Confidential 18 at 52lbs and very consistent, does anyone have different setup to recommend with this racquet? Should I lower to 48lbs?

Not sure about a new one but I have a 2019 so don’t think they are on a 4 year cycle. My understanding is it’s whenever Yonex decides to make a new one.

No one knows what Yonex will do with Regna. Yonex often changes dramatic changes to new racket so if you like current racket, you might not like next version. I was one of early adopters for Regna and I tried a few new generation Regna but first gen to second gen change was very dramatic change for me. I tried but always went back to first generation and probably stick with it forever. I am traveling to Japan now but I don’t think I will get any new Regna from there.

It makes sense that Regna changes dramatically from gen to gen. I feel like this line of racquets gives Yonex more freedom to experiment with new ideas since the model is not endorsed by any pros and/or widely used. On the other hand, the changes make it exciting to try every time a new generation is released.

A semi-stupid question for those who are late to the Regna bandwagon - can you even buy on off the shelf at a local tennis shop in Japan like any other retail racquets, or it requires a special order? Anyone knows?

Yes you can buy them off the shelf but they aren't always readily available. Harry had to visit a few shops to find one as per the video.

I think the 2022 Regna was just a cosmetic update to the 2019 model so a new update may be due, but I have not heard anything.

There was no change from gen2 to gen3 besides cosmetics as someone else just noted.

I was able to get mine pretty easily. TW, TWE and TennisOnly usually get some in. They last for a few weeks so you have a bit of time to think about it. They also occasionally come up in the sales forum if you keep look out for them.

Currently in Tokyo right now and went to the Windsor store in Shibuya. Lots of Regnas in stock. About 20 Regna 98s, half 4 3/8 grips and half 4 1/4grips

I bought two with matched swing weights for about $255 usd each after tax refund

From the product info, i think there’s going to be a price rise next year

Another pet peeve of Yonex racquets - not enough larger grip sizes like 4 and 5 available for sale or they simply don't make them.

I am jealous. At $255 I'd buy 4.

Is TennisWarehouse getting any Regna in this year?
They usually only get a small batch when that gen is 1st released. So my guess would be no. You'll have to wait until the next gen gets released and hope they get some in then.

I grabbed 4 of them this last time. As I don't use them as my primary I did list a few of them in the sales forum a few weeks ago although I've been having 2nd thoughts so may pull the sales thread soon.

If you're buying 4, probably you can make a trip to Tokyo and buy 4. It will cost the same(flights+racquets) as you buy 4 from TW here. I got mine in Tokyo for $235 each.

Flights from Texas to Tokyo are about $2K each. That $145 savings x4 = $580. That's not covering airfare much less lodging, etc.

He said they cost him $255 each after tax.

I live in LA, depends on when you go there. Last year it was like $800 round trip for me in January. I mean you're not going to Tokyo, just buy racquets and fly back lol. Make a trip of it, a nice one-week vacation.

You don't pay tax in Japan, at least you can get your tax back at the airport. I showed my passport at the store, they didn't add tax to mine, plus they gave me 2 sets of poly tour pro. I'm going there this July again :)

That's the problem. Add in tickets for the family and lodging for 10 days and it's much more expensive than the savings. But yes, if I ever make it to Japan I will definitely visit the Yonex shop that TennisSpin did and maybe some smaller ones if time allows. I already have my Regnas so I'm set for now anyways.

Hi there- can you or anyone elborate on the differences betw gen 1 and gen2? I just picked up a gen1 (getting it strung) and I've also hit wih a friends gen2. I'm hoping they're close if not the same. I have heard that the only difference is the VDM mesh

There's no VDM mesh or any type of dampening in the Regnas.

New drilling pattern so trajectory is slightly higher.
I prefer 1 gen.

For someone who is hesitant to spend $400+ to experiment, how does the Regna 98 play/feel compared to an Ezone 98, VCore 98, Percept 97?
I think if you have even the slightest hesitation, don't do it. But , if you are more open minded about spending $400 and then reselling it if you don't like it for a small loss, try it. Otherwise I feel the Ezone 98 is damn close to it, but the Ezone has that one tiny tiny spot where the ball explodes too much , kind of funny when it hits that spot, it's unwanted, but it happens. Feel is different too.

The ezone is more forgiving..plays like a pure drive.. easy to hit with with lots of power.
the Regna is like my RF97.. like a surgical knife.. very precise control oriented stick.. with the right
strings.. plenty of power, spin, and control. I have mine strung with PTP 1.25 at 42lbs.

The Ezone doesnt play even close to a Pure Drive. Its very head light and whippy with a very low launch angle and not as much power as the Babolat.

Well, compared to P97, it's stiffer and lower powered, and higher SW. Yeah it's a pretty racquet, but nothing special about it. If you like stiff and underpowered with a little SW, you can get that in the previous generation Radical Pro still found new on the bay.

I don’t even remember what was like Ezone 98, vcore98 and never even tried percept97 since I changed to regna.
I can’t believe this is 10th year with my first generation of Regna 98. When I bought my regna 10 years ago. The price was ridiculously expensive since all other rackets were priced at $199-220 but now we see $250+ ranges. I carried at least 4-5 different rackets in my bag and buy and sell at least one racket in a month but since I changed regna, I only tested a few rackets. Currently, I still play with regna as main rackets and prince graphite extended racket (28”) for fun.
Regna is love or hate because of unique frame action. Even first generation and second generation is very different in my opinion. Also there is nothing like regna. You need to try whether you like it or not and patiently testing at least 6 months then give up if you don’t like it. I also thought about giving up but spent too much money and tried 6 months then it became my main racket for 10 years. Actually I saved more money since I barely bought new rackets for 10 years.
