Yonex Ti-80 vs Yonex RDX 500 / RDS001

Need some help. I am intersted in the Ti-80 frame and wondering what are the folks' thoughts on it. Would love to hear some comparisons of the T-80 to RDX 500 (Mid or MidPlus). And if you had the chance to play with RDS 001, I would like to hear some thoughts on RDS 001 vs Ti-80 as well. Especially if you play with a 2HBH.

Thanks

i kno little about the Ti-80 but i gather the rds is just a bit stiffer than the rdx (i play rdx 500 mp). i think the rds would play slightly better for that reason but be a tad harder on the arm. depends what ur after in that regard. plenty of good info on this site and the tennis-wharehouse site anyway in case u haven't chekd it out.

As far as RDX vs. ti-80, well, it's been discussed to death and so you won't find anything else(RDS is too new).
You looked through all the previous threads using the search function, right?

I have searched through number of discussions and I did find one really useful review:

[ti-80 is gonna have a much crisper, precise feel, while the RDX-500 is gonna have a much softer (some say buttery, I say mushy) feel. TI-80 cuts through the air better and feels more maneuverable; it's got a thinner box beam. The RDX will feel more "solid" stock on groundstrokes, but will feel less potent on serves and volleys. Ti-80 with some lead tape will feel plenty solid though; it just starts out really headlight and thin in the hoop. Personally, I much prefer the TI-80 as I can't get the pop on serves with the RDX that I want, and I tend to prefer a more raw precise feel to a muted, dampened, or vague hit. Also, since the TI-80 starts out so headlight and swings so fast, there's more room for customization with lead tape to find the right swingweight and balance.]

Any other thoughts?

I demoed all three of them (MidPlus sizes)and ended up buying all three;) . I think Ti-80 is by far the best of those three frames. Swings very easy/ best serves of yonex racquets, and perfect around the net. All three made in JAPAN and quality of those racquets is just awesome. I'm also a sucker for paint jobs and Ti-80s as well as RDX 500s are the best out there. The paintjob is what initially draw me to demo one and I loved it. Ti-80 was also the cheapest of those three. I got mine price matched by TW @ 99.00.

Sergei, what type of strings do you use on your ti-80? I kind of regret getting the ti80 now, i feel like it's nothing special, i want more pop and control, if only the rdx 98 was more stable, heavier, and felt more solid than hollow, the rdx would own!!

I use Yonex's own Tough Brid 130 16L @ 60 lbs Mains/58 Crosses. I started to play w/ older Dunlop frames (Revelation Tour/MW 200G) so ti-80, when compared to those underpowered frames, gives me all the "pop " I will ever need plus it does well in contol department. I was thinking about switching to Prestige line up at first, but then after trying the Ti-80, I decided to get one. I still feel that I dicovered something trully incredible.

Hi folks.
I've switched past December from Ti-80 to RDX500Mp.
I suscribe all comments by BLA7625 and Sergei (Ti-80 red is prettier than orange like mine).
Perhaps saying thet Ti-80 NEEDS some lead in 10 and 2 positions to fell more solid. I've renounced to serve speed since now I can't compete and as instructor I need more solid contact and stability.

Great Forum, a pity you don´t know about woman. or yes?

Regards

I am shopping for a Hybrid strings for my and son's Yonex.
My son plays the Ti-80. I play with Mid Size (MP TOur 1 , RDX 500 and RDS 001).

How do like the Tough Brid 130 string? Please comment of playability (spin vs power) and durability.

Thanks !

I've tried both now and the Ti-80 isn't my cup. The Yonex RDX feels so much better for every shot, the Ti-80 feels very tinny and such. The headshape of the Ti-80 was annoying too I found, it was a lot wider (not beam width wide) than my RDX which was very off putting.

I've had all three - Note: I use a 4 5/8" grip and the T-80 has a different weight at that size (heavier than the TW specs). Here's my take:

RDX - Best feeling of the bunch. Nice on the arm and great for all court play. It doesn't have the sting on volleys, so you may have to hit an extra shot. I returned really well with it because I could take a full swing and because it was a lighter SW. Problem with the RDX is the serve - this thing hits marshmallows. I had to get rid of mine because I simply could not reasonably hold serve. It really was embarassing. Otherwise, I probably would have kept it.

Ti-80: An OK frame. The weight was a bit of an issue. With overgrip, this came to 12.5 oz. Serve was better than the RDX but the frame felt more clumsy. I thought I could really feel the shaft flex with the Ti-80. Feeling was OK, better than the RDS but not the RDX

RDS - a bit heavier swinging than the RDX and a much harsher hit. Serves better but that was the only redeeming quality to me. I could see developing wrist or arm issues with this.

BTW, I switched to the Volkl DNX 10 MP. We'll see how that goes.

Vince,

I agree with what you wrote above. Similar to your experience, I just could not serve well enough with the RDX 500 Mid/MP to hold my service games.

You gotta try the Redondo 98. It has a good feel like the RDX 500 but I can serve a whole lot better with it. I am hitting the best 1hbh I have hit (ever) with the Redondo 98. Backhand slice has a lot of bite and skids low.

Hi Sam -

Something tells me with our swap shop history, I'll be trying a Redondo (most likely yours) one of these days! :D

Seriously, that actually does sound like an appealing frame too and that is awesome to hear it's working so well for you. I just haven't had the chance to see one in person. I did just pick up three of the DNX 10 MPs from Skraggle and they do feel nice. I have always liked frames with kevlar or in this case fiberglass from a comfort standpoint. I have to settle on a frame soon since USTA is about a month away. I do this switching nonsense every year and I always wonder why I am irritable for half the season. Tomorrow is the first night testing the new DNXs.

The RDX was laughable from a serve standpoint. I used to have a fairly solid serve and I was hitting serves that made me look like I had just taken up the game. I must have lost double-digits in terms of mph on my serve.

Agreed, RDX was excellent from most perspective except serving.

My flat 1st serve with the 500 RDX is slower than my second serve with the Redondo. It was pretty pathetic and my opponent was crushing these routinely. And at one point, I just could not deal with it anymore because my own service games would exhaust me physically and mentally.

Regarding comfort, I don't think you can find a more comfortable frame than the Redondo 98. This thing volleys like a dream for me too. I bought a bunch of frames in the off-season (RDS 001 MP, RDS 002 Tour, Pure Storm, C10 Pros) but I just cannot put down the Redondo 98 for some reason. So these other frames will stay on the waiting list to try out.
