What's up with the bull fibers

Hey guys I'd like to collect feedback from anyone who has tried the latest stuff from Pacific- the new version of Prime Gut with orange spirals/bull fibers. This is possibly the most expensive string in the history of tennis and I'm curious to know what's special about this stuff. If bull fibers make it last twice as long as any other gut I'm going for it.

Bull fibers -- has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Too bad there are no specifics given as to what benefits they deliver, even at Pacific's web site.

Sounds like a re-branding of the now defunct blue spiral variant.

Funny you, of all people, should say that. The former Imperial from Pacific had a strand of Prime mixed in and dyed blue. This gut has an orange thread in the mix. The gut is supposed to be harvested from specially selected bulls and then only a part of the intestine. Pacific says it's the cat's meow. :)

I have yet to try it although I have been tempted.

It's been out for quite some time now, although I have not used it yet (TE and MW sports have been selling it since last year). Imperial was ToughGut with a blue strand of Prime, while Bull Fibre is Prime with an orange strand of "the best" gut Pacific offers, taken from RSI magazine in FEB 2010:

<<'Prime Gut Orange Spiral is 14 threads of prime gut, and a 15th thread that is, as Parry says, “the best of the best” gut. That extra thread is colored orange and is intertwined with the others. Bull Gut, says Parry, is a level above — 15 fibers of the absolute premium gut fibers. “It will be the ‘premium premium’ of all sets of gut ever manufactured — fast, comfortable, and durable.” '>>

But Prime is the best gut that Pacific offers, so where did this magical bovine come from?

Perhaps they should make a gut string composed of 15 orange bull fibers next, and they can charge $70 for it.

I think the 15th fibre is from the a prime part of the intestine, kinda like the filet mignon of intestines. Anyway, it's supposed to be the top dog of all guts. I may have to buy a set and do a compare with Prime.

Think about it. There are far fewer bulls than cows or steers and they are rarely slaughtered.
Are their intestines better? Who knows? Their hide is tougher as is their meat.
Maybe that's a question for the USDA? :)

I dunno, I like to imagine some gold and diamond enshrined steer being massaged and hand fed Cheetos all day, a la Kobe beef. There's just no way a string company would randomly discover a magical piece of bull intestine out of thin air, else we might have seen these fibers used before. I mean, gut's been around for how long?

I'll admit that my curiosity is piqued, but I think I'll hold out for veal gut.

Rabbit is our resident Pacific gut expert.

We really need him to try it out and give us a full report.

How about it, ORO?? :)

Oh Ok...

I have a set of Tough and a set of Prime ready to go as well. I guess it's only money anyway...

Bump. Any news on when you'll try it?

Funny you should ask. I have, in my possession, two sets of Bull Fibre. One is 16 gauge and one is 16L. I will have to string a set of Classic first to dial in tension, then I'll string up a set. Any preference on which gauge?

This thread or beef fiber makes me hungry. Maybe a bull has all that testosterone in throughout it's life what makes the meat and other parts tougher then the cow or steer. No matter how good this stuff is, for $45 I can go to the local butcher and get 4 prime A fillet or porterhouses and call it a really good night :)

Any word on the outcome? Some of us are salivating over the thought of a detailed review...
