Nishikori - The real 4

As we head into RG, I've compiled a list of the current top 10, based on recent level.

1. Djokovic
2. Murray - Nadal
4. Nishikori
5. Kyrgios
6. Raonic
7. Tsonga(provided fit)
8. Thiem
9. Goffin
10. Wawrinka

Feel free to add your inputs.

Nadal and Djokovic so far ahead of the others it's beyond a joke.

In order of likelihood to win the title - which takes into account past results (something that many people don't give nearly enough credence to - form is temporary, class is permanent, remember folks) as well as current form, I'd put them at;

1). Nadal

...

2). Djokovic

...

3). ...Ferrer
4). ...Berdych
5). ...Tsonga
6). ...Monfils
7). ...Raonic
8). ...Wawrinka
9). ... Kyrgios
10). ...Goffin

Why no Murray for instance? He has appeared in 3 semi-finals at RG unlike Berdych, Tsonga, Monfils, Raonic, Kyrgios and Goffin. You seem to be one of the very people you accuse of not taking into account past results! o_O

Annnnnd the Murray police has arrived.

Calm down, no need to get worked up just because I don't think your favourite is one of the favourites.

LMAO at Ferrer being put as 3rd favourite! Just got absolutely destroyed this week by lucky loser Pouille (who could only muster 3 games against Murray).

And Bendych at 4... I'm lost for words.

Your personal preferences are just that but you lectured us all on taking past results into account as well as current form and then listed a whole group of people whose past results and present form are distinctly inferior to others. If you just want to list who you would like to win RG, then fair enough but don't try and pretend there is any scientific rationale behind it. That's all.

You can make all kinds of list , but at the end of the day there is only one guy who is constantly holding the cup.

If I listed who I wanted to win French Open, it would be;

1). Almagro
2). Gasquet
3). Thiem
4). Wawrinka
5). Kohlschreiber

But the list was based on likelihood of actually winning the title. And yes, besides the top 2, there is a colossal gap.

Nishikori wasn't on my top 10 list either, and many would say that was a notable omission, but you hardly rushed to Nishikori's defence because you only care about defending your boy Murray. So don't pretend you're trying to pick holes in my selection logic - you're just being the Murray police as usual.

Not at all. Nishikori has only ever made 1 quarter-final at RG so his results there are distinctly inferior to many others on your list but none of those I mentioned have made 3 semi-finals like Murray has. I presumed you excluded Federer on account of his current physical problems otherwise I would have defended his right to be up there as well. That said, Nishikori is still far more likely to win than the likes of Goffin, Kyrgios or Raonic or, given their current abysmal form, Ferrer or Berdych.

So I repeat, don't pretend your list is backed by any scientific reasoning. It merely reflects your own personal prejudices and tastes which you should have been honest about in the first place.

Personal prejudices and tastes? I am a fan of NONE of the players on my list apart from Wawrinka - and he's the defending champion so probably has a right to be mentioned there somewhere.

As I said, if I was making a list of who I wanted to win, it would look a lot different than that list of who I thought was most likely to win.
