This is the start of a new and improved thread where we can all come and relax and spread a little love around. Leave your grudges and your grievances at the door my friends, for this thread is a little different than others. A place to have a good time, talk about your day and get to know your fellow posters in a friendly relaxed environment. We do not chat on this thread nor do we spam as that is a direct violation of the TTW policy. Let's keep it clean, keep it fresh and funny and above all, keep it real. Let's also keep some form of topic going, not that we can't stray, but a purpose is cool, no?? LOL
That being said, the first thought of the day is what is everyone reading right now? I am reluctant to admit that I am engaged in 1400 Days - A Day by Day Chronicle of the American Civil War. Hey, I find it fascinating.

Way to go CC. It's nice to have a place to Talk (chatting is so Yesterday/so yesterday/I'm like a bird I've already flown away).

Dammit...

Anyway, good to your place is back up and running.

Hey BigServer1, glad to see you back!! I need to head to bed for the night but just wanted to see someone post before I call it a night. :) I took some tennis photos today in the wintry wild that I will put on the picture thread as soon as I get a chance. It took a lot outta me since it is just a tad cool up here. LOL

Just get over it already geez. No threads about "anything" its as simple as that.

TokyoPunk, I am over it and have discussed the issue already with someone a little more important than you. Did you not read the OP? Grudges at the door - this is not a "chat room" to lay your beefs out. ;)

Besides, I like you and think you can be quite humourous (that is when you're not coming after me). What book are you reading? Share a little something about yourself - we don't bite, really. Drak may chop your feet off to make you smaller like him, but that's about as bad as it gets. LOL ;)

I'm here, I just don't want to reveal the book I'm reading, so just dropping in to say hello and goodnight CC.

LOL - is it that bad SoBad? It can't possibly be worse than a day-by-day chronicle of the movement of the Eastern and Western theaters a hundred and fifty years ago. Very dry to most, but I'm a bit of a buff (nice term for hugely obsessed), and love it. Come on, what are you reading?? :)

I insist on not revealing the book, but since you seem so keen on learning what it is, I will give you one (and only one!) hint: the book title includes the word "jahannam".;)

Good one SoBad, "jahannam" is an arabic word. Do you want me to mention the meaning of the word? I won't unless you give permission.

Please feel free! That's the beauty of a thread with no topic - you can't possibly "derail" it, since there are no "rails" to begin with! And if my hint leads someone to figure out the book that I am reading, so be it, I won't confirm or deny it...;)

I know! Curious George burns in Jahannam!

Great idea for a thread, btw.

Just finished two books: How to Play Better Tennis by Bill Tilden and Blink:The Power of Thinking without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell.

The Tilden book was written over fifty years ago, but I was surprised to recognize many of the lessons taught to me nearly verbatim by various instructors very recently.

I've passed over Blink for a long time because, ironically, the cover and blurb did not intrigue me. I finally cracked it open and started reading, and couldn't stop. Lots of fascinating and disturbing stuff in there. The stuff about the conscious and unconscious syncs up perfectly with what Timothy Gallwey talks about in The Inner Game of Tennis. Totally recommend it.

Well, if that is the case, I say welcome to the club my friend!! ;) Wow, it so goes against human nature waking up before the sun is out. Why can't I just get a paycheck for being me? What's with the having to work deal? LOL

Since spam is not allowed on the boards, and its even stated there shouldn't be any spam in this thread, does that mean there will be no hard feelings if Admins/Mods delete posts they consider spam?

I define spam as unwanted material that bothers a person. If you go by that definition then i guess I don't mind that an admin deletes a post providing a reason why it's considered spam.

Define spam. Better yet, have one of the Admins define spam because the Board Policies sticky really doesn't do that.

7. No spamming the forums with off topic posts. Spamming the forums will result in an immediate ban.

Pretty vague.

So what kinda music does everyone like or currently listening to. I'm listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day. And a little bit of U2.

I have a friend who was at the U2 concert in Honolulu last night. It has been a long time since I envied someone that much. wah!

Lets hope to god Chris doesn't find this thread bothersome then;)

It might be vague, but if it was too specific people would be crying that their thread wasn't breaking any of the rules, but was closed anyway

I only have a second here - I'm at work and am swamped. I guess that's what you get when you come back after a few weeks of holidays. :)
Anyway, I'm listening to The Fray, U2, Evanescence, Lifehouse, James Blunt and Nelly Furtado's recent cd. I have many more favourites, but since I've been listening to a lot of Christmas music the last couple of weeks, have only had time for those.
Hey Fee, I agree that some clarification would be nice so we don't cross any lines, but to everyone else who is concerned - just relax. I'm sure we've learned our lesson. To whomever asked how old I am, frankly that's none of your business. I'm not behaving in an immature manner and this is not my thread, it's for everyone, but since I started the thread I thought of that and just went with it.
Hmmm... I hope everyone is doing well today, but really, where the heck is Drak?? Gotta get back now - I have about three hours of work to cram into forty-five minutes. Take care all. :) CC

Why was the old Canadian sheila thread deleted? I've been away living under a rock so I don't know what has been happening.

I have been hiking in the Appalachian mountains and exploring unmapped caves and had myself trapped under rock falls and finding a way out of the caves and along the way, encountering very nasty creatures. But never mind that. Never mind that at all. I got out and am alive and well now.

So, has anyone seen any good horrors lately?

So, anyway, I really enjoyed the books I read.

Sorry BoxingGuy, I meant to thank you for posting them. I actually wrote them down and figure I may give 'em a go. Unfortunately, my city caters to the hockey crowd but I'll do a search and order them in. Thanks. :)

Robbie, glad to hear you made it out okay, although I would have no doubt with your sharp survivalist instincts and cunning speed. Horrors? Hmm.. I think the last ones I saw must have been Saw II and The Chainsaw Massacre. They were gory enough, oh yes and Hostel. I find the psychological thrillers terrify me way more than horrors, but they can be entertaining. How about you?

OMG CC! YOU MUST SEE "THE DESCENT"!!
I just saw it yesterday with my mates and sheila friends and we all agree it's one of the better horrors we've seen all year. I particularly love it because it actually scared me. It's the right movie to see for all the folks out there who think horrors just aren't scary anymore.

Mind you, I'm in Australia so I don't know if the movie is out over there in Canada. But what I loved about it is the fact that it's refreshing instead of the typical victim freezes and cowers in fear of the ghost/demon/ghoul/monster and just dies a pathetic death ala The Grudge/The Ring.

Personally I live by the motto "if you're going down, take as many of those b*st$rds with you. Make them pay the price. You're going to die anyway so why not take them to wherever you go next." Now in The Descent, that's exactly what I got. Lovely to see the human primal instinct of self defence kick in along with the Fight/Flight Responses.

Mind you, don't get me wrong. I'm not a violent person. I just really loved that movie and got really pumped up seeing people fight back and gouge some monster eyes out and smashed their skulls in.

Now that I think about it, I should have brought a few stress balls into the cinema with me so that I could squeeze/destroy them. I was so motivated by those sheilas in the movie. They inspired me so much and I was so full of adrenaline that I had to go to the gym after the movie.

LOL - good stuff Robbie and I like your style. Fighting is the only way to go when faced with the evil that lurks in the dark. Canada gets their movies perhaps two weeks at the most from the US releases so it should be out on dvd. Or did you guys head to the theater? Sounds like a good rental for anytime I am not alone. :)

Hey Robbie did you take any pictures on your trip? I'm not into horror movies, sorry.

LOL unfortunately no. My camera didn't work very well in those caves that were several hundred metres below the surface of earth, especially with crappy flash. My warning: nobody go exploring the arteries of the earth/ unmapped/ undiscovered caves. Not unless you want to run into a lot of nasty, life threatening surprises.

My journey, was not much of a physical journey. The journey to the the cinemas was, but when I was in there, it was more a psychological journey.

P.S. I didn't really go exploring the caves within the Appalachian mountains. Hehehe. Just go see The Descent everybody. That's provided you like to be scared and see the darker side of human nature.

Robbie, I love the fact that you use the term Canadian Sheila. I don't know why, but I really do. You can come to my kitchen for a glass of grape juice any time.

CC - the ignore list is a wonderful thing on this forum and it's better than trying to teach a pig to sing. ;)

Oh no, I don't mind. I always offer people grape juice, regardless of age, because it has so many wonderful antioxidants! It's also about the only decent thing that I almost always have on hand, I am the worst cook and the worst shopper.

I am honoured by all your invitations for beverages. It's ok though I don't think it's corruption of minors right? I mean here in Australia you're an adult if you're 18 (18 = not minor) :D

Well well how apt that this thread is called the "NON-Chat Cafe Bar and Bistro". Good thinking. If one is looking for drinks this is the right place to come to.

Well here in Washington, DC (as in most, if not all of the US) you are not supposed to drink until you're 21, but everybody does.
