Which is it?

Its a fast paced, short format that requires players to go for broke out of the gate. General movement should be the most obvious info that can be gathered in such a format.

Form, stamina, and recovery time obviously will be a question mark due to the lack of time on the court.

What, if anything, does this tell us about their current physical state? Is it wishful/hopeful? Or, is it a sign that they are fine and ready to go?

Fast 4 type of thing. Didn't like that format either.

When looking at the poll in the new year, I keep wondering why a Fedfan continues making attempts to make up stories about Rafa.

I hope for your sake you spot gremlins under your bed a little less frequently than you imagine Fed fans making up stories about Rafa. Yikes

If you see the newer formats as added alternatives they are easy to watch, but tennis does not seem good at making a permanent place for new formats ... unlike cricket, for example.

Less than 30 points per match is not a very good way to measure how far they've come. If anything, this will just be our best look at the injured guys that skipped a portion of the year. Djokovic and Wawrinka will both be interesting. If they play poorly, it doesn't bode well, but it isn't a death sentence. If they play very well, you still aren't sure how they'd fare in a best-of-5. We'll have to wait and see.

There is a good chance that we will get to see our very first grand slam where only one member of the big four is in the main draw...and what were the chances it would be the oldest of the four?

This AO could really have a new winner.

If several of the former winners, Djokovic, Nadal, Wawrinka do not turn it up, then is it effectively on Fed left to ensure no new winners. Odds go up for new winner.

I think it's a good sign both will play AO, personally.

I would be shocked if Wawrinka plays the AO. I'm not sure he will show up for the exho. I think he needs some more time.He had two surgeries!

We all know about how severely depleted the USO draw was last year, it is now possible that the AO could take it even further.

O boy! Let's hope not. I haven't really seen anything to suggest the young guys are ready to take over. We shall see. But I think Kei, Stan and Murray will be no shows. Can't comment on Nadal and Djokovic until we actually see them on court.

But my gut feeling is that Nadal will play. Djokovic will depend on what his doctors say. It's funny how everything is happening all at once.

Raonic is in Brisbane. He played a doubles match, so he may be OK.

Ideally, I want them all back.

More mystery surrounding these two than anyone else. I have a feeling Nadal will be fine.

Possible Federer/Dimitrov final? Given they're on opposite sides of the draw. Would be the first all OHBH slam final in over a decade.

Fed doesn't look great to me, I don't know. Been watching his matches in Perth and he seems slightly off. I think a top 10 player could exploit that sort of form.

I have only seen highlights, so naturally I will not have as an accurate view of his form compared to someone who has seen his matches. But, question is, how much is he really trying and how much is it down to being first event back?

Slightly sluggish I think is what one poster said in another thread. I noticed a few shots that he had to run down on the BH side where he looked a tid bit slow maybe. Other than that he seemed pretty solid. I think he will be fine before its said and done.

I don't know to be honest. Only Federer would know how hard he's trying -- but I get the impression these guys are not treating it like some fun exhibition from what I've seen.

Federer got broken in the first set and after playing the servebot game against Sugita with the top Japanese player gifting him a couple of breaks along the way.

Never really seen Fed struggle that much on serve before besides 2013 when he had back issues. Think he arches his back way too much and its giving him trouble now.

OK. I might need to check out a full match now. When is he next playing? Thursday?

Hm.. well I will need to check his schedule but there's probably full matches already on Youtube. Will see if I can't post them here. Otherwise I guess stay tuned and follow him to see when he's playing next.

Well, I am in Moscow next two days, no access to live stream, so probably will look for full matches on You Tube.
