Novak is travelling to Australia where he will take part in two exhibition tournaments. After the two events, the decision will be made about his participation in the Australian Open.

The Serbian star will be making his long-awaited return to the game by playing his second Kooyong Classic (10-12 January). He reached semi-final there in 2010.

A powerful men’s line-up is led by Novak, David Goffin, Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic.

Nole will also be making his appearance at Tie Break Tens tournament at Margaret Court Arena at Melbourne Park on January 10 (in the evening). The Australian debut of the novel format comes after three previous editions in London, Vienna and Madrid.

The slogan of the innovative event states: “Every point counts”. Each match will last for one tiebreak, with the first player to 10 points winning. Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka, Nick Kyrgios and Lleyton Hewitt are also playing at the Melbourne venue.

Brilliant! Can't wait to see how hard Novak has been training. Clearly he wouldn't travel for an exhibition if he wasn't thinking of playing AO.

That's a gorgeous stadium. I've watched it televised so many times and because of the camera angle they use and the turf on either side of the court it looks almost like a challenger setup. Doesn't do it justice at all, apparently.

Looking forward to his comeback! Even though it is an exo, we can still check how well he moves and hits.

The AO needs Novak, lets face it. He is missed massively on the tour by genuine tennis fans. Im not his biggest supporter , but he does bring excitement to any match.

I, for one, hope he is there, regardless of his form.

Correction: he’s only missed by genuinely scared tennis fans.
