Asics Gel Court FF vs Gel Res 7

I tried on some Gel Res 7's today and although they were narrow in the toe box, they did not seem as long as the 6's and I could wear my true size without feeling too long. I compared them to bab SFX2's there. I have some of those and like them but they are a little short with 11's being too long. I can wear them though. They don't bother my feet. Thing is, seemed like (in the store) the Res had better cushioning in the forfut than the SFX2's. SFX2 had better heel cushion. Last time I owned Asics they were the 6's and I went back to my prince shoes for little more cushioning. Does the newer Asics have more cushioning or is it the same and my mind playing tricks on me?

Because of the good deals on TW right now, I looked at the gel Court FF and they look nice too. Which Asics has more cushion. I am not going back to the Prince shoes. May stay with the SFX2's but I swear there seemed more arch and forefoot comfort in the Asics. Holler if you have wisdom to share. Thanks, Mark

The Court FF have a TON of cushioning if that's your main concern.
RogueFLIP is right. I bought the pair for 129.00 2 weeks ago, like them so well that I bought a 2nd pair. I see they are now down to 99.00, may have to spring for a 3rd pair. I've been suffering from achillies tendonitis over the better part of 3 months, to the point that I haven't been playing much at all. My vapors still caused discomfort. I've played 3 matches in the last week with zero pain in the Court FF. I tried the Gel Res 7 in the store recently, I felt like I needed to wear a size 11, the 10.5 size I normally wear, felt tight. The 10.5 in the Court FF is perfect for me. I also popped some Gel insoles in the Court FF's, they are so comfy and fast.

I have ordered a pair of the clearance. I play mostly on clay. I read that these shoes were thought to get on but some people love them. If they have great cushion and fit, I may be in business. The 7’s cramped my forefoot but I am betting that would break in.

Nice, suprisingly, I do not have a lot of issues putting the shoes on. I've heard shoe horns are needed but I haven't had to use one. The 7s cramped my foot as well. Initially, they felt very tight around the ankle but now that I'm used to them, I love them, so much support for me. Good luck..

$99 might be worth a try if it has more cushioning than the Gel Res. The Gel Res 6 was too insecure in the heel and had not enough impact protection. If this shoe can improve on those 2 things it’ll be perfect for me for game day. Is the length the same as the Gel Res 6? If it is I can size down. My feet are so narrow, nothing feels too tight. The limiting factor is always length.

The last Gel Res I wore was the Gel Res 5, I can't comment on the 6. My last 8 pairs of tennis shoes have been Vapor 9.5s. I wore 10.5 and wore a thin Nike sock. In the Court FF, I wear a 10.5 but use the Nike Elite socks since they are thicker. So, I would guess that the 10.5 in the Court FF is a little longer than the Vapor.

i'll also added some gel inserts which probably take up a little more room than the inserts that come with the shoes so a half size down might be good unless you wear thick socks and add a better quality insert.

I did size down with the res 5's (not 7's like I said) and they fit but were VERY snug. The 7's I tried wee normal size and they were cramped but long...however, I could wear them and would not have sized down. I will try this one in my normal size and if I like it and it is WAY long, I will size down. I don't like my toes too close so maybe normal size will work.

I also didn't have any issues getting on the FF's, just slightly inverted my foot, stuck em in and wiggled till they popped in.
I bought my size and a half size down, but my size was just fine....a little extra length, but basically the same as my favorite Solution Speed 2, so there was no issues with length.

Unfortunately the FF's, and I'm in the vast minority, the side of my right pinkie toe wound up rubbing against the shoe; the same issue I was having with the Solution Speed 3 and I was hoping the FF's would break in more and it wouldn't be an issue, but they just didn't and I wound up giving them to a teammate of mine.

But I can't say enough good things about them and I'd highly recommend them to anyone. My feet just couldn't tolerate any of Asics 2017 line.:(

I thought the 7’s might rub my toe too. I will walk them around for a while. If all else fails, I will get another pair of the SFX2

These FF's feel too long, and yet, they hug my feet. I am thinking I better not go half size down becaue maybe they will not feel as good on the rest of my foot. Anyone get these and not size down? How do they wear in? They feel pretty damn good on my feet right now.

I just got my Court FF’s today. Yes they run long, and that’s good for me because I went down a half size and the fit is great! My skinny feet can still move a little bit from side to side, but that’s normal for me. I love shoes with booty construction. They are a little hard to get on but they feel more secure than tongued shoes. They definitely have better heel lockdown than the Gel Res 6. The real test will be to see if my knees feel ok after a long match. I’m feeling pretty good about it thus far. The cushioning does look like it’s beefed up compared to the Gel Res. I notice a thick piece of gel in the heel that I didn’t see on the Gel Res 6. Only negative is that the retail price is so high! Don’t know if I want to love it or not!

I guess what I really want to knw is if anyone has bouht them a little long (I assume they are long on everyone if you order normal size) and had them break in to the point that they became too big. The Prince T22 lites did that to me while I had them here walking on the elliptical and around the house. No way I could wear 10.5 in those. I could wear 10 probably but wanted to try these instead at this price. Holler if you know.

Ahhh thanks for that post. I may order a pair 1/2 size down and send the one I don't want back. They feel really good. I know I would keep this size in the Gel Res because they pinched my toe a bit even in the 10.5. These dn't pinch at all.

My wife is going crazy seeing all these shoes come and go but I guess that is normal for Tw customers.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet for the first time. Nice cusion in the forefoor and not quite as much as the SFX2 in the heel.

Same here. I I am comparing those to my SFX to use and it is really pretty close. The Babsbhave better heel Cush but the ASICS have more even Cush. I have a sneaky feeling I will end up staying with the size I have. They are long but my feet don’t seem to move much in them. I do not mind the tow room as long as it doesn’t get in my way, but like you, I will wait-and-see

I think most people are going to be happy with their true size. When you size it down like I did, I think you end up with a narrow shoe, which is exactly what I want. Size 9 in the Court FF feels comparable in length and width to size 9.5 in the 2015/2016 Barricades, and a lot of people think the Barricades are narrow. The uppers on the Barricades stretched enough that they didn't feel that narrow after a while. I hope it's not the case with the Court FF. The uppers on the Gel Res 6 seemed to keep their shape for a long time, so maybe that bodes well for me.

This isn't my experience. I found the the FFs, 1/2 size down, have more room in the toe box than my Nike 9.5s. They are also clearly longer. I use a shoehorn to get them on, which isn't a big deal. I feel totally locked in with them. I also thought they felt roomier than the Gel Res 7s, 1/2 size up. I tried on the FFs in my regular shoe size and I an understand how people might think that's the way to go, given their fit in general, but personally, I'm really glad I wen 1/2 size down.

I've got 4 matches in the Court FF's, say, 7 hours. I normally wear a 10.5, that's what I got. They felt a little long in my normal Nike sock. Once i started using my Nike Elite socks, they feel perfect. As I may have mentioned before, been battling Achilles Tendonitis for 3 or 4 months. In the 4 matches I've play, absolutely zero pain. Its a pleasure to play tennis again. Now I've done other things to help heal my achilles but these are fantastic.

So if I wear Yonex Size 9 then should I buy Size 8 and 1/2 in FF's. Buy 1/2 size down from my normal ?? Some guy up there said it rubs up against the Pinky toe ?? will I have the same problem if I buy 1/2 size down ?

This shoe seem to have one of the highest numbers that TW review has ever given to a shoe. It looks good.

I have been wearing Yonex shoe for last 10 years and new Eclipsion 2 has some Major design flaws and I can't wear them. So I am looking to change to another shoes. Do you guys think court FF is a good option for me to try ?? I always loved the Yonex shoes cause that Power cushion provided great cushioning and Great Energy return so you can explode off the court and yet feel very comfortable on the feet.....

Does Asics cushioning also give you that explosive energy return off the ground ?? Thank you in advance

I just ordered myself a pair - I tried them in a store and they fit like a glove ... felt like the best shoe I've ever tried ...
They also have a slighly wider base, as I needed to switch from Barricades regardless, as those are too narrow for custom
insoles that I also got ... been having foot problems ...

They should arrive soon ...

I kind of like the Barricades narrow fit but they tend to be too Heavy so I never tried them for competitive tennis purposes.. I always wore Yonex but this new Eclipsion 2 has design flaws. so I was forced to switch to new company. Asics is another innovative Japanese shoe company so I was going to give them a shot. I tried the old Gel Resolution 1 but they didn't have the support on upper of the shoe,,, cushioning was very comfy.

Can you let me know if this new FF asics give you good explosive push off the court ? I wanted very cushy comfortable cushioning and yet very Responsive explosive energy return when you push off the courts..... I am not sure Gel cushioning which is very comfortable does that ?

I've been wearing Gel Res 7 for about a year and they are comfortable and I think a little tighter in the toe box. I got the Gel Court FF on clearance and they seem much tighter in the ankle/heel area, but wider in the toe box, almost too wide. I don't like how the tongue on the Gel Res 7 slides around out of place. The Court FF does a much better job on this since there's no movable tongue and locks your foot in place better.

I'm going to keep wearing my Gel Res 7 for normal play/practice and switch between my Court FF and SS3 for matches.

Funny enough I never found barricades to bee narrow in terms of fit - they are fine, and too wide in the toe box, but the middle section is too narrow to fit in a thicker insole, thus the problem. I had love and hate relationship with Barricades, they last long, which is why I switched, but they never were quite as nice as Vapors ... (which last 3 weeks).

I bot Asics Gel3 way back then, but they turned out to be half a size too large for me (they tend to run long) and no laces could hold them tight on my foot, but since then they fixed the laces problem, and this time I am getting them half a size smaller ... we shall see ... I loved how FFs hugged my low ankle which is where I do need support, but I don't think they'd ever work with an ankle brace ... we shall see.

I haven't worn Yonex shoes, so I can't help you there. The FFs, 1/2 size down from my Nike 9.5s definitely have more toe room and the shoes are actually longer than the larger Nikes. Everyone's feet are shaped differently, but I have no rubbing on any of my toes. Full disclosure - I went to the Asics store in New York and tried on both sizes of the FFs. I thought about buying my standard size, however person who worked there, checked the fit and recommended I go smaller. It was definitely the right move, for me.

For me, the FF's are very explosive. I feel very fast in these shoes. Dimkin mentioned the snug feel and he wasnt sure an ankle brace would work in these shoes and I might have to agree. Unfortunately, I didn't have the option to try these in a store so I just ordered my normal size. They are fine but I would have liked to have tried the 1/2 size lower to compare.

Explosive,,, love the sound of that... but does that mean there is lots of energy return when you push off the ground ?? kind of like powercushion does which is unique cushioning material that returns energy when you push off against it........So the Yonex saids.........

Also, I need the ankle area to fit Tight,, I just hate wide ankle area in the tennis shoes,, it just turns my ankle when I land from the overhead or push off

They definitely run long. They are at least as long as the Asics GR6. Sizing down a half size will not give you problems with length. As for room in the toe box, I think that once you size down they are fairly narrow, but apparently there are people with wider feet than me that are still fine with sizing down. So I guess it depends. The closest thing that compares would be the GR6. Chances are you’ll wear the same size in both shoes, but the good news is the heel is more secure.

HAD to try them on ... and the damn store didn't have my size 9. 8.5s felt fine but maybe a "gram" too tight. My guess is 9s will be a "gram" too long ... Asics tends to run long ...

they do run long,, only worry I have is if I buy 1/2 size down then the Toe area will be too tight... I have to put in the custom insole( cost me $600 ) in there which takes away some more room except the length.

I've not tried any Yonex shoes but I would say yes to the energy. I just feel faster in these than the Vapors I've worn for 3 years or so. The ankles fit very tight, in fact, I was initially a little turned off by how tight. As I wore them more around the house, it didn't bother me as much, now I love them. Some people have to use a shoe horn to put these on, I just slide my feet in, not as simple as other shoes. Struggling with Achille Tendonitis for several months, I figured the tight support around the ankles might work, and it did, perfectly. Played 6 sets this weekend, no achillies pain, at all.

I use a gel insert and Nike Elite socks and they fit perfectly. With the original crappy insert and thin socks, I could probably go down a half size, might be close. Its weird too, cause I tried the Speed Solutions in the store and the size 11 felt the best, rather than 10.5, 10.5 was too snug. I know that Asics has had that sizing whacked in the past. One model of Gel Res and you use standard size, the next Gen you go down a half size.

same for me - just went to Surefoot store yest to get one, and that's where they told me my Barricades would be too tight for the proper fit ... length-wise asics are weird ...
I tried Nike Cages 9.5s - they fit me perfectly, Barricades 9.0 fit me perfectly, Asics FFs 8.5 fit but... I could use 8.75 I guess ...

So from the picture,,,FF looks like it is LOW cut compared to Gel Resolution 7. Will I have problems after I put in my Custom insoles ?? my custom insole raises back of my feet slightly more. I am afraid after I put in the insole, I will lose some ankle support since back of my feet will be sitting slightly higher in the shoes ??

It's just the opposite. I had a big problem with heel slippage on the GR6, and I thought it was cut too low, which was part of the problem. The Court FF has great heel lockdown, better than the 2015 Barricade and way better than the GR6. It has a tongueless booty construction, and in my experience this type of construction tends to have better heel lockdown. The inner booty does a great job of hugging the ankles. There was no way I could put a thick insole in the GR6 and not get excessive heel slippage. I haven't tried it on the Court FF, and I don't plan to because it's fine without it, but I think your chances are better on the Court FF. One problem I foresee is getting your foot inside the shoe. It's hard enough for me with narrow feet and no custom insole, but for someone with wider feet and a thick insole, it's going to be tough getting your foot in. You might not want to size down for that reason.

so this is a comparison between the FF and I think the Gel Res 2. I stopped with Gel Res 5's. The Gel Res 2 was lower cut. I have some Gel Speed Solutions also, probably 1st Gen, they are lower cut as well. Also showing the inserts I use and last pic has FF's Gel Res and Gel Speeds

Getting my insole in the shoe was a little work. Getting your hand in the shoe to smooth the end of insole in the toe portion of the shoe took a little time. The sock opening is that tight. I've heard people comment that you can wear these on the court and not even tie the laces. Its true, they are that snug at the heal.

so this is a comparison between the FF and I think the Gel Res 2. I stopped with Gel Res 5's. The Gel Res 2 was lower cut. I have some Gel Speed Solutions also, probably 1st Gen, they are lower cut as well. Also showing the inserts I use and last pic has FF's Gel Res and Gel Speeds

The FF is way back.. My insoles are not custom but they are thicker than the manufacturer insole. They actually worked perfectly. I'm telling you, they took away my achillies pain and I absolutely love them. After wearing the first pair for a couple of matches, I bought a 2nd pair and now that they are down to 99, might buy a 3rd pair.
