To kill a mocking squirrel

I was biking today and going downhill. Suddenly a squirrel jumped in front of me. I tried to slow down but the squirrel was on my left side already, so I continued from the right . Now the squirrel is nearly in the middle of the road, started accelerating towards the other side but a car suddenly came and the little guy was now under the car and I was praying for a moment that nothing would happen to him. But when the car pulled away I saw the little guy was motionless. I was already a bit away down the road, so I turned back and before another car came, I wanted to take him away hoping that he was still alive. But it was too late. He was already dead. I guess the car hit the head and he immediately died. There was blood coming out of mouth. I felt terrible. I thought if I had never showed up there, the squirrel could have passed the road quicker without the pause or if I had broken down towards him, he would have gone back away from the road and be still alive. A guy came to me and saw that I was very sad, said this happens every day and that I should wash my hands immediately. I didn't. Still sad.

He had a quick death, so he didn't suffer. I think you should wash your hands. Don't make other people get some disease.

Same thing happened to me, was biking out on a country road and a loose dog was acting somewhat menacing across the road so i looked at it, so sooner did a pickup truck come down the otherside as the dog decided to cross towards me . Crunch. The owner came out grabbed it by the hind legs and dragged to the side, pretty matter of factly.
To this day I just look ahead and don't acknowledge any animal activity in hopes they won't be intrigued.

I once was walking down a busy road. Early 90s. There was a squirrel that had been run over but was still alive. It was pinned to the road. It was struggling to move but could not. There were crows coming around.

It was very disturbing, but not much I could do. I guess I just walked on with a heavy heart.

I hardy ever see dead rats in the middle of the road. They are too smart!

They know to look left and then they know to look right, unlike the poor skunk in that song that taught me the new word "olfactory".

It would have died instantly. Don't beat yourself up over it :)

And as others have said, be extremely careful handling wild creatures for hygeine and safety reasons. You said that there was blood - I hope you washed your hands immediately afterwards. A lot of such creatures have rabies and/or various parasites.

I would personally get checked by a doctor if I had handled a dead squirrel (I would never ever do that in the first place) but I'm a germ freak :D

As I get older, I find myself much more sympathetic to animals large and small. Now granted, if there are mice in the house, I set a trap. They weren't invited in. But if the mouse is caught in the trap and is still obviously alive, I do not enjoy putting it out of it's misery.

I'd rather crush my opponent in tennis 6-0 6-0 then crush a wounded mouse.

I'm some kind of monster probably.

Mice are not that smart I guess as I see dead mice sometimes. Some rats are so scary big, they don't even care about the cats. I saw that once when I was awake late and looked out from the balcony. When humans go extinct, mice and rats will die by billions too as they will be starving to death.

I used a napkin and didn't touch the blood. I will survive.

I guess some animals and some humans are just unlucky. This little guy was right under the car and there was enough space, I saw all it happening in front of my eyes. But something hit him, it must be some metal under the car, maybe the exhauster. The body was in perfect shape, no tear in any part. It was just that hit on the head that killed the squirrel. Had he been 5 cms on the left or right, he would have survived. Funny all forms of life are so amazing and they can end in an instant.

I think I am becoming a softie (or maybe wiser) as I age, the only creature I kill now are mosquitoes. I even don't kill fruit flies anymore. I trap them and then take the jar outside and release them. I think all lives have the right to live (and share food) as long as we don't really have to kill them.

Your getting wiser, young chap !

Letting others live is not being soft. Don't let Brad Pitt movies define what it is to be a man, lol.

I still like the Western movies though where they kill with every opportunity. :)
Actually Brad Pitt is a wise man too, did you mean Clint Eastwood?

I dunno about rodents and capy's but I believe the venerable cockroach could be the one to survive us.
Then finally there will be world peace.
Till of course, the Sun takes leave of the Main Sequence.:(

Biggest threat to Earth is super volcano like yellow stone or rogue comet
Aren't comets essentially ice?

Won't they just melt when they get into our atmosphere ?

I would be more afraid that they might bring in some form of ET that might be virulent and wipe us out.

You can google to find more methods.
Are they a disturbance to you? Why are you at war?
There must be a reason for them to come into your home. They would otherwise prefer to stay close to and inside of earth.
I think they like procreating in my walls, and in the dirt around the house.
I was exercising the other day and got in the way and the motherfk bit me, the quarter inch size ones.
In my, I mean " our " family room. I said well excuse me. You mf ant. You bit me on the soft underside of mycarm, the mf didn't respond but was a bit dazed after the btc slap I gave it. Probably enjoys climbing in my nose when i'm sleeping and eating at my frontal lobe. Mf er

I always yield to the mother turkeys and wild pigs carefully leading the young ones across the road.
In that regard they are no different than us. Probably better in that respect than many humans.

Still can't figure out how a little ant can inflict so much pain with a single bite.

How do you get rid of the garage mice? Some say to block the entryways but how the hell do you do that? They squeeze into the smallest openings.

Had a woodpile in garage, no more, no mice, had old kitchen cabinet left drawer open, mice opened up a procreating nest, full of babies and poop. Used hockey stick and cold water from hose in cold weather. There gone, got a toad now, no bother.
