Bright future for Basilashvili?

Saw this guy almost dismantle Nadal at US open and also win two 500 tournaments this year. I don't think I've ever seen anyone hit as hard off both wings. Deep, flat, penetrating shots. All in all very impressed watching him this year. What do others think of this guys game?

I’m sold on the guy.

Great serve too.

What’s not to like about an underdog Georgian?

Saw this guy almost dismantle Nadal at US open ...

Welcome New User. :)

I was at the match and admittedly was not paying a great deal of attention between socializing and food runs. However, I did sit through much of it. The guy took one tiebreaker. Other than that brief lapse, Nadal cruised. It was never in doubt.

Your description of the match is strange unless you mean by “almost” that it didn’t actually happen and that it’s a purely binary choice: either he dismantled him or he didn’t.

In that case, yes, I agree he almost dismantled Nadal. :p

That's the definition of almost dismantling someone on TTW

Also, one loss = imminent retirement

But yeah, I did notice his game last year at RG. Even though he only took one game, his technique is beautiful.

OK maybe dismantle is wrong choice of words, but he did push Nadal FAR who looked very uncomfortable at times, like when he lost to Fognini a few years back at US OPEN

On the all important ace/double fault ratio, Bashvili is far and away the worst in all of ATP. He has like 50 more DFs than aces, I forget what the exact number is. He double faults way to much, not the highest DF rate in ATP but definitely top 5%, and he has a very low 1st serve percentage but gets very few aces. The most important thing he could do to improve his game would be to improve his first serve rate and double fault less. He's won these last two tournaments by getting lucky, he was 27/32 holding on BPs in Beijing, 16/17 against Sock and Delpo.

I like him and agree with your analysis. But his ROS needs serious work and his footwork can be sloppy. I hope 2019 can be his breakout year, but am not holding my breath.
