Will Federer beat Nadal again?

Can someone explain to me why the #2 and #4 seeds are potentially facing in a SF's? What am I missing. Shouldn't the #1 seed bracket face the 4 seed bracket and the 2 seed bracket face the 3 seed bracket in the other SF?
I don't really get a lot of these draws especially in the grand slams. Seems like sometimes in the early rounds the top seeds gets higher ranked players even when there hasn't been upsets. Doesn't seem like it's set to rankings after the seeds?

Numbers 1-4 are usually drawn randomly in the semis. The only ranking combinations that aren't permitted to meet in the semis are 1-2 and 3-4. 1-3, 1-4, 2-3 and 2-4 are all legitimate options for a SF match-up.
So Federer and Nadal meeting in the semis is not unusual.

Thanks for the info but I don't like it. Randomly drawn. This makes no sense, if you are the #1 seed it's not fair to have to play the 3 seed in the semi's while the 2 seed gets a lower ranked 4 seed easier path. Many years that's been a huge difference in player quality with the Big 3 having such a large gap over the rest of the field.

True. But generally, there's not much difference between no.1 and no.2, as well as no.3 and no.4. Only in the era of the Big 3 this becomes an issue as there is a big difference between a Big 3 member and no.4 Murray. But that's a unique situation generated by the Big 3 all playing in the same era.

I hear that Nadal is about to withdraw from Miami and Madrid.
Just giving you guys heads up for when he announces it after his last match in IW, that it has no connection whatsoever with the injury that will inevitably occur, should he not win the title here.

Nadal obviously laid all the ground work to leave federer with no chances of a win.
1. Nadal can talk to his team evaluate his chances for tomorrow and pull out giving Fed walk over. Moral Victor.
2. Nadal chooses to play and retires midway. Obviously the knee is about to break.
3. Nadal somehow completes the match limping and taking million MTOs and goes to the presser and says not a good time to talk about injury no?
Which one do you think is the most likely scenario to play out tomorrow?

But you guys have to realize that one day the big three will all be retired...and that will be sad for everyone who has enjoyed watching this era.
We’re lucky to get a 39th meeting between 2 of the best ever, regardless of the outcome. Hopefully there will be more, and more between each of them and Djokovic for a few more years. Enjoy what we have while it lasts.

Murray was in the top 3 for more than 40% of the last 10 years (including the period of him dropping off the cliff until now), so that's not always been the case.

I'm sorry, but the question in the OP makes no sense. For Federer to beat Nadal again, he would have to have beaten him at least once before. But, as we all know, neither Federer nor indeed any other mortal has beaten Nadal. Nadal has only ever lost to Mother Nature herself, in the form of his endless list of injuries that has prevented him from winning 15 straight calendar-year Grand Slams.

I agree. I like straight-up numerical brackets. 1,4,5,8 (with 16,13,12,9) up top, and 2,3,6,7 (with 15,14,11,8) on the bottom - though many disagree with me.

Going into the tourney, I thought that Rafa would have a good chance of beating Roger (in meeting #39) should they both advance to the semis.
While (in a career reversal) he hasn't beaten him in a long time...(AO 2014 - and 5 straight losses over those 5 years), Rafa has had better form on hard courts since AO '18.
So far, they've both played pretty well at IW.
Roger may have won, anyway, but quite obviously, Rafa was favoring his knee in the second set versus Khachanov.
I'll swing an edge to Roger based on that. I hope they're both in good form; it's always a treat to see the ATGs on the same court.

Nadal hits every shot so clean and Fed is all over the place
If fit Nadal will win with consumate ease. It is not Australia or Shanghai or Crandon park where the ball keeps low.
Weather forecast is 29c. They are playing in daytime. As long as Nadal knee is ok he will win in straight sets.
I think he will. He's a better suited for this surface esp. with his improved backhand.
