You know, when people ask why doesn’t he retire, he’s won enough, (Djoko’s dad, for example), he’s got more money than he can ever spend, etc., they don’t realize how much he loves competing and playing a sport that has made him immortal. He knows he can’t win Rome or RG most likely, but he went out there competing, basically getting outplayed the entire match, but finally for once getting a win when he should have lost and all the while the crowd cheering for him as if he were Italian and his last name ended in a vowel.

Also, and though people don’t like to say it, what in the world can compare and make a person feel the way Federer must feel when the masses of every country adore him, root for him even against countrymen, shout out, “We love you, Roger!”
Obviously, we don’t like to think that this is something someone stays on tour for, but this love, this adoration...how many people have ever had it or will ever have it?

I know it won't happen, but please skip Paris too.

lmao the rg director is probably like ****, better reach out to him to make sure he is still playing. i hope roger knows what he is doing. i figured this is like his goodbye to clay and he wants to just give one final go at rg so i'm fine with it, most likely because i dont think he is getting far anyway so even if he gets to like the 4th round and loses, still considered a success and then he still has some time to recover for wimbledon.

I hope so. I don't want him going any further than the 4th if he's not going to win the tournament anyway. I'm too excited for Wimbledon, I don't want anything messing with his prep.

I'm sure most of Fed fans have never watch this match, so this is the occasion.
Great quality of sound and image with English commentary on top of that (y)
One more thing, pay attention to the BP conversion ratio, somethings never change :-D

Assuming that Fed is still playing RG, the top seeds are as follows:

1. Djokovic
2. Nadal
3. Federer
4. Thiem
5. Zverev
6. Tsitsipas (will jump to 5 if he beats Rafa tmr)
7. Nishikori
8. Delpo (will jump to 7 if he wins Rome)

here's hoping for a decent draw. either way he wont be facing the main favs until the semis. ofcourse chances for people to knock him out before that especially if they can push it to 4/5 sets.

The #13-#16 seeds should be:
Medvedev
Coric
Monfils
Raonic

Knowing Fed's luck he'll draw Coric again . Monfils is apparently injured against in Rome, Medvedev is a good matchup for Fed, Raonic is AWOL (?)

Get off our lawn.

Incredible how much he has improved in his mature years. That is extraordinary. Technically, tactically, mentally. Don't worry, I will not comment here anymore, but I have seen the footage and was struck by the difference. Imagine Nadal is 55 years old Borg and you see the footage of Borg in 1978 and Nadal today and it is the same player. This is how it looks like.

The match is streamed dude.
Dude, they post the schedule well before they stream the matches. They list all the matches that are scheduled to be played, even the ones which they are not going to show (mainly WTA), in which case they tag them as "Not Shown." Now I know why the Fed match was listed late last night (in the USA) as "Not Shown." Fed had already withdrawn.

Coincidence.

lol repeat of 09? it would be crazy if both lost early again. i dont see it happening

Don't want to sound pessimistic , but he would loose too because there are other players like Thiem or Tsitsipas who can hurt him.On clay, if the match goes past 2 h 30, Fed is vulnerable and that is understandable now :) Let's see him "dancing" one more time at Wimbledon, that is all that matters :)

Exactly. I think the winner of RG will either be Thiem, or whoever doesn't have Thiem in their half.
You think even if Thiem doesn't beat Nadal/Djokovic, he'll tire them out too much for the final?

Or are you saying that Thiem is making the final no matter what this year but he won't be able to beat both Novak & Rafa?

This is over-sentimental hocum.

When people ask why Roger doesn't retire, of course they realize he loves the competition, adulation from fans, and entertaining the masses around the world. He talks about it all the time (to his credit).

The Non-Disney reason they ask the question is because they assume that, eventually, he will tire of the constant travelling, the wear and tear on his body, and wonder if at some point he will want to spend more time with his family.

I think Djokovic and Nadal may not win FO now. Djokovic has won Madrid and is in the final in Rome. He has played a lot of tennis on clay in the past 2 weeks, and as a 32 yo, he won't just be able to maintain the right form day in day out. Nadal also has looked more vulnerable than ever on clay. I think we could have some surprize winner like Zverev or - who else? - the GOAT.

Disagree. Nadal is still #1 favourite. Dont see him being knocked out at least until SF, where he can face Thieminator. As for Fed, so little chance to win it - not sure if he even can reach 2nd week

Logically, you should put Nadal and Djokovic as co-favorites, followed by Thiem. However, Under the current circumstances, it seems some strange results might happen at RG.

Well, if Nadal wins Rome he will regain his confidence and it would be very tough to beat on Chatrier. This final in Rome is more important than we might think, from the mental perspective :)
