I'm not believing what I'm seeing. What is this obsession with these harebrained Dropshots?

When we talk about drop shots only, then Dustin Brown is and always was better than Djokovic.
Brown just uses it more often. With Djokovic, he won't drop shot much unless he's in the backhand corner ready to end the point, and those (used to) rarely, if ever, miss their mark.

Nadal's forehand down the line missing in action since the end of the first set. Gotta bring it back this set to unsettle Djokovic.

Stupid way to lose the opening game of the decider. What's with those dropshots... :cautious:

At least he is still in it. Would have been ugly if this went in the same direction the first set did...

Nadal has been a bit of a choker with his newly aggressive Moya game, Nole with more than a chance to still take this.;)

wasnt he known to smash rackets back in his juniors and early days. i think i remember reading an interview once where he said he and marat went through so many rackets. actually pretty sure it was 2009 that he broke the racket, because it was miami against novak.

Yes, it was 2009 my mistake, but the point stands: he broke racquet only once in his long career on the highest level.

Also, like I said, he was never "notorious" for it in his early days. He simply wasn't known as racquet smasher, regardless of separate occurrences.

Djokovics stamina is declining. Currently at 40% or something like that. If Nadal loses, he will be straight setted in RG.

Please tell me that Novak has bet a million dollars on himself messing up 20 dropshots and/or overheads this match at very favourable odds. There is no other possible explanation.

Nadal should be disappointed and mad at his play. He has missed 10000000 bp opportunities.

The problem is that he is not being aggressive and taking control of things. A tired Novak still seems to have the match on this racquet.

This does not bode well for Nadal and being so timid while facing Novak.

Djokovic only needs to exist and return balls for Nadal to collapse mentally.
If he can manage that (and it's not a given), he'll win this.

Credit to imhotep for making this a match. If Rafa wins it'll be much more satisfying and he needs to feel like Djokovic competed to be confident heading into RG

Yeah I'm not sure why many are criticizing the choice of shot. I don't think he's doing it as a Game plan. He looks a little leggy and might be trying to end points earlier, to me.

This has dragged on far too long when you see how Novak is playing. Nadal has given him extra confidence by blinking at the end of the 2nd as well. Even a win here now for Nadal is not all he would like it to be from his/Djokovic's confidence perspective.
Still better a win than a loss. And believe me, Jokovic will have his doubts if he loses, since he is giving everything he has here. (He is not tired as he won the second set and keeps fighting like an animal in the third.)

He is Djokovic after all. He can do it.
Also good to see out of form and low in confidence Nadal bageling Djokovic, even if tired.

Any Nadal that has bageled and breadsticked players this week coming into the final is not out of form. Low on confidence against Djokovic yes, but not out of form with those one hour beatdowns he gave.

I meant the future not the past. He's lost a lot of the recent ones, so needs to turn that around.
well, funny how that has happened after Nadal's physical decline. his current physical peak is about 70% of what it used to be (and thats not counting injury, which still happens alot), which is still enough to add slams to his count, but Djokovic is definitely the one player who could take best advantage of that because he also depends on stamina alot. not as much as Nadal, so if he has that on Nadal, he has an incredible advantage.

actually, Nadal's endurance has always been a big part of his mental strength, which explains why its lacking sometimes later on in his career.

What
rafa's bp conversion here is fed like

I'd say Nadal's is Worse. Fed wouldn't have wasted so many chances against a tired Novak.
For a player who was always thought to be a mental giant/warrior, Nadal has been really spooked for the last part of his career.
