The Serena Slam over Peak Venus.
Literally these two changed women's tennis.

It took years for the tour to catch up, and no one else would have stopped that Venus :)

Impressive, I had set the under/over for a butthurt Federer fan at ten posts.
LOL, you created the poll specifically to get a negative response from a Fred fan so you could insult them.

Why such low self-esteem?

Nope, I just thought those three particular achievements were interesting to compare.

NID that someone would have a whinge about a thread with this name and no mention of Federer, though.

On men's side:
Fed's 20
Nole's NCYGS
Laver's CYGS
Rafa's RG 12

On women's side:
Steffi's Golden CYGS
Serena's 23

Edit: Martina's 6 in row should definitely be listed here! My bad, I forgot... I think it's a shared spot with Steffi, but open for discussion.

What would you pick? and why?
I am honestly not sure, which is why I posed the question. They are very different achievements, and very specific to the abilities of the respective players who managed them.

Perhaps the Grand Slam, I suppose - if only because it has always been the Holy Grail of tennis.

people have gotten very close to the other achievements on a number of occasions. 12 rgs nobody will get close to. Also Novak has held all four so pretty much the same, Fed has been like a match away a few times. Nadal has like double the next best, I dont like him but that’s way out there

It was great from both, just as Nadal and Djokovic competing in all four Slam finals in a row.

But the tour didn’t need years to catch up. Serena was in a slump after her 2003 Wimbledon win which lasted until 2005. And Venus only showed up at Wimbledon after this time.

We can discuss though if the rest of the tour ever reached the level of the Williams sisters in 2002 thereafter. That is really questionable IMO. And before I would only give Steffi Graf some chances.

Because in one scenario you don't get the benefit of the off-season break.
Yes you do. Leading up to it everyone gets an off season, and since he started at wimbledon he did not have the fresh start, he got his break in the middle. So not a fresh start could be seen as tougher.

Either way, is a two month rest a huge difference?

Q: Will Laver's CYGS ever be equalled?
A: Federer and Djokovic in recent times have come awfully close to achieving it, so I'm pretty sure it is going to happen someday.

Q: Will Borg's 3 consecutive channel slams ever be equalled or surpassed?
A: Nadal has done it on 2 occasions, so it can be done, though it will be extremely difficult more so than the CYGS.

Q: Will Nadal's 12 x French Opens ever be equalled or surpassed?
A: Not in a thousand years!

None of them.

Sampras winning 7 out of 8 Wimbledon’s in an era of
Krajicek
Ivanisevic
Philippoussis
Becker
Edberg
Agassi
Rafter

Federer basically destroyed Philippousis in Wimbledon, also has wins while being so young vs Ivanisevic. I am not sure how this is supposed to make Sampras looking better.

Nobody has really got close to the Grand Slam since Laver. Twice someone has got halfway (Wilander in '88 and Djokovic in '14), then bombed out at Wimbledon.

Nobody except Borg has even done back-to-back Channel Slams, let alone been shooting for 3 in a row.

All 3 of these achievements are pretty peerless, with the next best only being half as good (or less).

Regarding Borg, Nadal did not do it consecutively so he was not that close. On top the fact that it took a one in a million clay courter like Nadal says something. I would also give Borg extra credit, as he did it in polarized conditions playing serve and volley at Wimbledon.

I will say this, Rafa only won RG 5 times in a row. Fed did that at two different slams.

Philippoussis is labeled a weak era mug when talking about Fed’s competition, listing Edberg and Krajicek is like saying “Federer won the FO in an era with Kuerten and Nadal”, Rafter and Agassi were good not great and only showed up occasionally. Leaves us with Becker and Ivanisevic who were great for sure but given that Goran was a headcase and Becker already old it was not so impressive either (at least for the standards we are talking here).
