NoleFam - are we mostly Serbian?

I doubt it. Any more than most of Borg's fans were Sweedish. Or most of Fed's fans are Swiss.

I think it's mostly about play style. Tennis fans don't seem terribly nationalistic to me. The only American tennis player who is on the top of my list of most enjoyable players to watch was Sampras for the men, Evert for the women. Oh, BJK too. Connors and Mac were exciting, but in their day I hated them for their awful behavior.

In fact, if I were picking one player for young players to copy today it would probably be Joker because his strokes are so clean and textbook if you are going to play with 1H. Of course no one can copy his insane movement. Back in the day I thought Evert was the best player in the world for most men and women to copy who were just playing for fun because her strokes were the same, simple and mechanically very sound. I couldn't copy her because she was so much younger than me. But that clean takeback on both sides is still solid today for rec players, I think.

Greek Aussie here. Love Novak, more than Tsitsipas.
Can you explain why you don't like Tsi? He may never be an ATG, probably won't be just because it happens so rarely. But is it his game or his personality that puts you off?

My favorite of the young guys so far is FAA because he carries himself with so much dignity. He's almost like the old Aussies. That's what I loved more about Laver and Rosewall, the way the carried themselves. Also Borg. And Ashe. And Stan Smith really, though watching him play was like watching paint dry.

I am from India .
And he is my favourite player since I was a small kid and Novak won Australian open 2008 . ❤️
That's why I say it is personality. I like a lot of flash in a player. If you like steadiness and someone who is indomitable, then Novak is probably your guy. I think he plays % tennis as well as I've ever seen.

I like Fed's devil-may-care attitude, but sometimes it has bitten him in the ass. I don't think he is as good at tactics as Nadal and Novak.

Didn;t say I didn't like him. Just think Novak is a greater player.
I like Tsitsipas, and support him. Think he is one of the few young guy's with the right mindset to win slams. Way more professional for his years.

I have said this in the past. Djokovic might not be the most popular player, but his tennis will be taught in the future. Just like Lendl's was, and Agassi's as well.

Federer, Sampras, Becker etc, might all be ATG's, but they have not and will not shape the way the game is played in the future.

Actually my elder bro introduced me to tennis . He is massive fed fan..
And we used to sit along and cheer for federer during 2006-07 slam finals .

During 2007 US open , I spotted Djokovic and instantly liked his game and his persona . I knew this is my favourite .
After that I just stuck wid the guy ,I never knew he would be such a Big giant in future . I don't even know what I liked abt him .

After 2011 when he started giving us legendary matches ,it was all gravy for me . More than I could ever wish ❤️

That's because the average player does best to copy very simple, basic strokes. I teach piano. You would not believe the way amateurs copy quirks of the best players on the planet, thinking that these quirks are what make them great.

It's weird isn't? Why we take to people...

Things I like about him not having anything to do with tennis: He seems to love languages, and I'm fascinated with languages. He has to have a great memory because I think he learned some Chinese. I also think his English is superb, true also of Fed, but he seems to be more introverted and thoughtful. Unlike many others I think he and Fed will be fine with each other as they age. You really don't know anything about life until you pass 30, and you really start to learn what's important when your kids grow up a bit. The real test in life is trying to deal with teenagers. ;)

The Tennis Channel commentators are heavily biased towards American players. Of all people they should be neutral and let us fans be the biased ones. It's like the opposite at least between the American tennis pundits and TT'ers. I can't stand it when they talk up players like Opelka and FAA, though he's Canadian (North American). I'd like it if they spotlighted young up and comers from other nations. They used to with Coric. Annacone at one point thought he'd be the next Djokovic.

Funny most of my Greek mates love Novak too. I remember one year Novak rocked up to the local Serb church and I took 2 mates with me not knowing he would be there. After seeing him and quick meet / greet e.t.c they love him even more!
I think he has a lot of Aus fans because of the ethnic breakdown of Aussies (a lot of Serbs/Greeks etc and his achievements at AO. The crowd absolutely respects him at every AO, and perhaps that's why he's done so well here? I find it interesting that he talks more about RG and Wimby than AO, possibly due to growing up on clay and that was the Slam most people knew most about I guess.

You will not find many Serbs come here and acknowledge

Truthfully , I would be surprised to see more than 20% non Serbians , even in a global forum like this .

Case in point USO 15 - support of 1000 in a 25000 crowd. Similar numbers yesterday . Just see the roar when Fed wins a point.

But the 80% crowd makes up for the overall small numbers with their patriotism by being loud here

Anglo Aussies love him too, he spends a lot of time with fans and people in General. Aussie crowds are the best behaved, we rock downunder

This is quite true as Cilic also has a bit of fans here.

The *only* record Fed has over him is total # of Slams, weeks at #1 is locked and loaded, and winning slams over slamless scrubs for a 4 year period to buffer his tally don't impress the public much to misquote Shania Twain, now that he's been exposed *again* by Nole. This victory at Wimbledon was the straw that broke the camels proverbial back.

3-0.

An interesting thing I noticed here is that a lot of women here like Novak. Most of my female friends and acquaintances who know my interest in Tennis, naturally gravitated to 'NoleFam'!
True, that most of them are casual watchers of the game, their reason for the choice is him being more attractive and charming than the rest! :p:p:p

That's why I first liked him in 2007, he was a cutie, although I'm not a woman.

Yet.

Haha nah but seriously, he's gorgeous. Nadal has way too much sundamage and Fed looks like an aged flute player.
