Is Medvedev a threat...

For the USO ?
The kid has had a very good couple of weeks in both Masters, and having faced Nadal, and now Djokovic, he will have tested himself against the 2 favourites for the title in NY.

If he performs well tonight, even losing a close one to Novak, how far can he go in the final slam of the year?

PS Lets remember he won their last meeting on clay this year, and if Djokovic isn't 100% with that elbow, he could cause an upset.

He could very possibly make the SF if given a favorable draw. Probably not very likely though.

He sounds like he's horrible to play against and seems to have a good attitude . There's a good article here (you might have to sign for a free account to read it)

Thank you for creating a thread that's not about Kyrgios or GOATS.

There are already two threads on first page about Medvedev... There wasn't any need to start new one, op could just continue conversation in those threads...

Djokovic will probably smoke him today, so be cautious.

As for the US Open, he has great consistency and base level but I don't think his peak level is necessarily high enough to win slams just yet.

Why hijack someone else thread?

Plus I asked could he be a threat at the open. I didn't ask does anyone think hes playing good, or the other thread which has Federer in the title.

Theres about 8 threads on NK, does that mean people shouldn't start a new one incase you get butthurt?

something something, not ready to compete with the best, too young, too old, not his time yet (even though he's 23 FRICKING YEARS OLD!)etc etc.

same old sh1t

until i see these players contending GS finals they're just ATP 500 and masters fodder

in other words, Meddy to get smoked in the first week by some qualifier who's name the American commentators can't even pronounce properly

MEdvedev has actually higher shot tolerance than novak. so he is acutally better than novak. he just hasn't won any majors yet

He's probably about where his ranking indicates in terms of "Threat for USO" - within the top 10, but not within the top 3.

I'd say for the first four favorites for the USO it basically follows the rankings - Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Thiem. But then it's hard to guess - the ranking say Nishikori, Zverev, Medvedev, and I guess based on form Medvedev should be ahead of them? So, maybe he's the 5th favorite or so?

It's hard to judge how likely unlikely events are.

I'm proud of Daniil for getting away and maturing from his nonsense in regards of what happened in a match with Donald Young.

The dude doesn't have a high enough peak level to win a slam. At least not yet, we saw what a so so Nadal did to him in the Montreal final.

He is weaponless and he is less consistent than for instance Djokovic and Nadal.

Hitting flat is an advantage, opponents aren't used to that and the ball sits down. Should be a force on low bouncing surfaces.

This is a win for top players at the age of 23 years old? A semi?

At this point, any player in the top 10 still losing to 32/33/38 year olds should think anything less than making or winning the final is a failure.

I'll never trust anyone without any weapons.

It's almost impossible to win Bo5 slams if you don't have a go to shot to get you out of trouble. You can't rely on pushing the ball 15 shots every time you're in a jam over a 2-4 hour match. That works against most of the tour, but not the top 5-10 players who will pounce if you give them an inch.

Murray went through those same struggles to an extent, and he's 10x the player Daniil is. His inability to protect his serve cost him so many matches, he would just roll it in and go to work trying to outgrind Novak/Rafa/Roger and it practically never worked.

Couldn't agree more. The top guys are just as consistent if not more so than he is, but they have so many ways to end a point. Nowadays you have to have both consistency and weapons. Sure, a guy like Delpo or Cilic can sneak in a slam here or there since they have weapons, but their consistency isn't Big 3 level so even they rarely win big titles.

Medvedev is starting to prove with his results that he is one of the best young players not those other hyped up guys.

He's consistent and mentally tough. Even though there are flashier player than him, you can't just dismiss him.

Majors is a different ball game. He is yet to reach the consistent level at Majors. So it is very early to tell. However, he can take at least a set against Djokovic.
