That's the way I'm approaching it.

Many other stats already in his favor as well.

There's always Wimbledon.

Yeah, but motivation can only do so much. If Novak/Rafa bring their A game against Roger, 90% of the time it's going to go their way. Novak and Rafa will be motivated to surpass Fed as well.

Hope so, but he said he was feeling the best ever in years coming into the USO. And boom, his body quit just like that. It's not going to get any easier here on out.

The guy is done, unfortunately. He is super old and he has no slam where he is a virtual lock like Rafa is at RG.

And because of his ranking, he will always have to beat both Djokodal. And they still aren't going anywhere.

Feel free to vote that way. I want to know what people think. Say what you feel.

This is probably true but he might fluke out like Nadal and get a cream puff draw. The only guy he can’t beat is Djokovic.

I wouldn't mind Federer winning the AO/WB next year as I feel a bit sorry for him after WB. I feel for him and his fans after Nadal came so close to doing the same thing at USO. I would just feel sad for Federer if he didn't win another slam after that. Of course i'll still be rooting for Nadal if they meet.

Also, yes I think Federer is going to be extra motivated and in-form at next years AO, same as Djoko. The final/semifinal might be between them two. Nadal I think will be too emotionally drained after this match and might bomb out early.

He may not be the top 1-2 favorite, but come on, he'll always be in the hunt if his body cooperates. Imo skipping the claycourt season would do his mind and body good.

He looked to be on a war path last week after Novak started showing signs of shoulder pain.

But that didn't really do any good. For all his good health over the years, simply surviving 7 Bo5 matches is not a given at his age. Tweaks like the back on Tuesday can come out of nowhere and derail whatever momentum or motivation he may have had.

As close as he still gets at his age, it's a lot harder than it looks.

He looks a bit like Monsour Bahrami- so yeah, coupled with his legendary exploits and his deft-as-ever racquet skills, you can expect Grandpa Fed to entertain the children of the millennials.

Fed can be motivated 24x7. But if Fed does not clean up that FH, its will be tough to back up that motivation.

Ode to 2012 and 2017.
He will.
This is code red for roger. He will collect every drop of energy left in the tank to grab AO &/or Wim next year...
Its now or never

I say done. Unless they speed up the courts again, he can't hang on the baseline with these guys anymore and he can't sustain attack tennis for longer matches. Grand run. Ultimately the failure of nextgen has hurt Roger the most. Inability of anyone to rise and challenge big 3 has let his younger rivals keep accumulating.

He can be motivated all he wants but sooner or later there is going to be a new champion that is not part of the Big Three.

With Federer, we just need to appreciate his great matches, which are becoming much less common as he gets older. I am just thankful that he can still play.

Fed at his age could easily be one injury away from calling it a career. And it wouldn’t even surprise me. I have no expectations of him winning any more tourneys. I just hope that he can put together a string of good matches.

His game is beautiful. Nothing will change that. He is fun to watch. I have finally accepted that his most valuable record will be eclipsed. That’s fine. I don’t need him to be referred to as the GOAT in order to be a fan.

Fed has had an incredible run. Its been a blast. Fed at age 38 is currently the oldest guy ranked in the top 75. Think about that for just a second. That’s mind-blowing. It’s no wonder why he is losing to players that he used to blow away with ease. I am happy that he isn’t getting destroyed in straight sets by Djoker and Nadal all the time. He still gives them a tough match on occasion. The dinosaur is still pretty good.

He does more than that, he kicks Nadal’s ass whenever they play off clay and has for years.

Agreed. That's nuts, and it's even more nuts that the top75 is really at rank #3 .
