What level are these players?

Oh it's definitely not team Texas sectionals, like I said, that video level "Texas" would not be competitive in Dallas 4.0 sectionals, not even in Dallas 4.0 wild card playoffs (where 2nd place teams vie for a spot in cities)

Sorry, definitely my mistake. I always assume sectionals is league/team haha.

I know Texas is no joke, that's why I was kind of surprised by that video actually.

When we played them in 2017 (I was on Eastern 4.5 with J011yroger) it was a joke (as in they were all 5.0s), but then again they told us what they did to actually BE 4.5s lol.

Yeah, not something to be proud of in my opinion, especially at the 5.0 to 4.5 level, but what can you do? It's like a nuclear arms race to get out of Texas to nationals.

LOL! Sounds like Metro/Long Island for us in Eastern.....They can pull from so many areas. Where I am it's a way smaller pool of players, and smaller leagues so not much we can do, or get away with even if we wanted to.

The guy in the gray is a 4.0 and the guy in the black is 3.5.-4.0. The guy in the gray has better technique and footwork. The pushing style will not get you to higher level.

[...] The guy in the white is obviously more offensive (little better traditional form), etc, but also tends to not stay in the rallies long - wants to hit more outright winners (again, just going by the videos).

The other player is definitely more defensive, some crafty spins. [...]

could you two get together and arrive at some common conclusion? These are a bit conflicting statements.......

The guy who is the 3.5-4.0 has more of pusher style. This style will only get you a certain level which is in the area of 4.0. There are exceptions. The guy in the gray is clearly the better player and a solid 4.0, possibly more on a given day.

Yeah, tennis347 and I were saying the same thing about the guy in the black

I agree. I have always been a baseline basher since I started playing in the 90’s.

But yes, I would rate you around UTR6 based on that video, so im glad I was correct. What UTR is that blueshirt opponent of yours?

so a texas is saying a northeast 4.0 will be dominating. This is bit confusing. haha. maybe we all don't know what we are talking about.

So you are middle of the road 4.0 in Texas, while you rate players in OP video as low level 4.0. I take from that statement that you think that on average your would beat those guys more often than not. It's that pretty much what you are saying?

Seems like it, but seems odd how he would assume he can beat them based on the OP video.

There were times in the past when i was watching a player thinking i can beat him (her). 25 minutes later, i got bagelled. So yah, we can't trust videos or our own eyes. Let the racquets do the talking.

we sometimes think that players at a certain level will have certain strokes and gameplay ingrained. well at the rec level, thats not always true. I would say that up to the 4.5 level ( only from my observations of opponents), what u really need is good movement and good defensive skills. ( your opponents will almost beat themselves with unforced errors.) There are plenty of players that i have played up to the 4.5 level that has the crappiest looking stroke when observed from the outside, but try to take a set on them in real gameplay is a herculean task. what they do best is get the ball back and make u beat them ( not always easy to do), also they can play for hours with almost no effort.

I agree, someone who is fast, has good endurance and can run for hours and is capable of getting the ball back consistently is hard to beat at that level, and he doesnt need any strong forehand, backhand or serve, since people dont yet have good enough skills and weapons against such players at those levels.

Yup thats right. People think they have weapons, but it turned out to be good-for-nothing :)

True, now its a bit level depending too, but on average I would say unless you can hit at the bare minimum 90mph+ serves with good spin and place them decently with at least 50% serves in, and unless you have the pace in your forehand or backhand that is good enough to have the ability to hit winners from the baseline if struck well even if ur opponent is fairly fast and assuming you can hit a decent amount of them in, then I would say you dont really have strong weapons per say.

i have seen a player use frying pans and a wooden box to beat 4.0/4.5 level players. Its always fun to this guy hustle people for thousands of dollars.

That's exactly my thoughts too. It's one thing to rate others without seeing yourself on video (in which case the person rating others always seems to think 'they are not that good'). But when you have two videos and based on that you still rate one player better than the other despite what the video seems to suggest - that's a bit strange.
