How many Power 5 teams have less than 6 indoor courts?

Also do Power 5 teams that do not have any indoor courts have arrangements with local clubs for rainy days or do teams just have to wait it out or postpone match? I know UGA only has 4; they replaced their outdoor bleachers for this year but still havent increased their indoor courts. I read that Vandy only has 5. I realize the Cali, Florida, Arizona, and Texas teams may be able to play outside most of the year. However, which teams that really need 6 courts due to weather or a lot of rain still have less than 6? How often has a team without home indoor courts on campus won National Indoors? It really changes the dynamics of a match to only be able to play the top 4 lines first. Do all the Big 10 teams have 6 or more indoor courts since they usually dont go outside until March?

As far as I know most of the B10 teams have indoor facility, but Rutgers (only have womens) goes and plays at East Brunswick Racquet club. I dont know their agreement but they have a lot of indoor matches there.

Kentucky only has four indoor courts. Mississippi State is building a six-court facility, which will be ready later this year. A&M doesn't have anything and I believe South Carolina doesn't have any indoor courts right now either. Florida only has three.

P5 teams w/o indoor courts: Texas A&M, South Carolina, Miami FL, Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State. Texas Tech, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, West Virginia & Rutgers don't have any on campus though they are able to use others somewhat nearby. K-State & Colorado's indoor option only has 3 courts and WVU's has 4.
P5 teams with less than 6 courts - TCU (5), Vandy (5), NCST (4), UGA (4), Kentucky (4), Mizzou (4), Penn State (4), Washington State (4), Boston College (3), Florida (3), Miss State (2)

Mississippi State is building a new 6-court indoor facility which is supposed to be open this spring, Georgia has had one in the pipeline for a while but it still hasn't been started, Texas A&M has had one in the pipeline as well but it may be another few years before its built (saw where its budgeted for 2021). Kentucky is supposed to be building a $20 million dollar facility but I don't think its been started either.

Texas only has four I believe, and they aren't on campus.

Edit: I stand corrected, there are 6 indoor.

Some definitely utilize private clubs.

There are barely any indoor courts in Columbia, SC. My understanding is that South Carolina has some access to a 2 court indoor facility at a club in town (and may have contributed to resurfacing those courts in exchange for access). That said, if there is bad weather they will usually postpone or move the match time up or back to try to miss the weather. Also, both of the last two seasons, South Carolina had a home match scheduled with Charlotte that they moved to Charlotte’s indoor facility due to weather.

Technically UVA has no indoor facility 'on campus', but they have a 6-court facility at nearby Boar's Head (which was constructed w/ funds from Boyd Tinsley, Dave Matthews Band violinist & UVA alum).

Similarly, FSU has a 6-court facility ~ 3 miles SW of the campus, near the Seminal golf course. Nice courts, but crap viewing for spectators.

I agree, the indoor courts at Georgia are definitely showing there age. However, at what other college indoor venue can the spectators sit so close to the courts. It's almost like you are right in the action. Thin skinned players have a tough time playing at Georgia because of this.

Michigan and I don't think it is even close. Plush individual stadium seating at a vantage point that isn't too high off the ground, nor on the ground. Very well lit.

SMU is up there as well. Its facility is a lot newer, but seats aren't as comfortable Different than Michigan because it is 6 courts in a row as opposed to two banks of 4 courts.

Oklahoma/Ok State have also put a lot of money into their facility and are quite nice as well

It will be interesting to see the new facility at Ohio State once it is completed

Quite a few. At Wake, I'm certain you are sitting on ground level and are very close to the courts. Kentucky's four court indoor might be the most similar to Georgia. Baylor and Texas are also ground level seating. Columbia has a six court bubble in a very small footprint, thus the spectators are right on top of the court. Seating is along the sides and not behind the courts as the other places.

Even University of Mary Washington, a cheap D3 public school in Frederickburg VA has beautiful tennis courts, six of them (I am pretty sure of it but I was there last year so don't quote me on it). Perhaps, the University of Georgia tennis coach, men & women, should go beg Kirby Smart, the head football coach @University of Georgia, so that Kirby can throw a few bones to the bulldogs tennis program.

Part of makes it a poor situation is that it's pretty far from the campus ( a minimum of 30 minutes). This is if we're talking about Weller.

Georgia only has 4 indoor courts as far as I can remember.

Georgia Tech has 6 indoor courts but only 4 of them are directly visible from the stands. The upper mezzanine area ends roughly behind court 3 and the 4th court is visible from behind via stairwell leading down to the courts. Courts 5 and 6 are pretty much out of bounds.

UGA just redid their outdoor bleachers-wished they had invested in upgrading indoors to 6 instead. UGA has 12 outdoor courts-6 by the stands and another 6 without much seating in close proximity. All 12 were used for the NCAAs men's 2017, and in spite of the lack of enough seating, it was enjoyable to have the closeup experience of the back courts plus some shade-watched TCU play OSU there (Norrie vs Torp, young Wolf vs Rybakov) with spectators about 6 feet from court fence. I wonder if the new outside bleachers/courts will still have the "pit" 4-6 experience which was fun-remember watching USC lose to GA there. I hope the UGA/OSU match this weekend is outdoors so all 6 lines can play at once. I think GA will want it outdoors to have a chance... Weather looks promising for Sunday for now.

Mary Washington has 6 indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts. Ed Hegemann was the women's coach for many years starting in the late 1970's and later became the athletic director. He was responsible for getting the facility built. I can't remember the entire story, but I know he found a big donor to help make it happen. The women's team won the NCAA's in 1988 and 1991 may have helped in soliciting a donor.

I was there that year as well during the team competition for both the men's and women's R16 matches. There were a lot of memorable matchs that year. Andrew Harris (OU) vs. JJ Wolf (OSU) in the team R16. Wayne Montgomery (UGA) vs. Nick Crystal (USC). The Montgomery/Crystal match was enjoyable not so much because of the quality of the match but how Montgomery shut down the heckling from one of the USC players sitting right behind him. We were sitting right behind the front row seats where the team players are allowed to sit. The USC player took every opportunity to "comment" when Montgomery was on the bleacher side of the courts. Montgomery, at some point had had enough..and in response to whatever the USC player said...his response was "And that's why you're not in the lineup." A perfect comeback that shut the USC player up for the rest of the match.

But back to the UGA courts..yes..they really should have figured out how to invest in revamping the indoor facilities. It's pretty oppressive in terms of ventilation and the sight lines aren't that great either.

Illinois over Wake? Seriously?

I attended Ohio State University many years ago and trust me when I say this: There is nothing good coming from the ******* when it come to tennis. If you listen to Randy Newman's song "I love LA". It described exactly what it feels like in the state of Illinois (Chicago to be exact):

You can't play tennis outdoor from late October until late April. When I was at Ohio State, I got depressed between November and March. Too cold and windy for me.

I did have the opportunity to visit Wake with my son for the university tour visit and Wake has very nice facilities and Winston-Salem is a beautiful place. There are days that you can actually play tennis outside in Winston-Salem during winter season. Not so in the ******* :)

I used to live nearby..here's my take.

The Illinois courts are located on a plot of land on the south side of the campus. It's in a large area where the majority of the athletic facilities/venues are -- football, baseball, basketball, track & field, etc. Google Atkins Tennis Center and you can see details for yourself.

12 outdoor competition courts (at the main entrance) 8 more outdoor courts on the back side of the building. 6 indoor courts. Distance between outdoor and indoor courts is may 50 feet max.

Viewing is very good for the outdoor courts in my opinion. I don't say great because if you're on the baseline ends of the court, you're looking through a windscreen if I remember correctly, but there's several rows of seating behind each court. It's pretty nice arrangement. Google

For indoors, it's pretty nice as well. There's a section of bleacher seating right in middle that separates the courts into groups of 3 --1, 3 and 5 on one side. 2, 4 and 6 on the other side. The court level bleacher seating is great if you're only interested in the 1 and 2 courts but you'll need to go up to the mezzanine seating if you want to see other courts reasonably well.

I loved Illinois outdoor, they didnt go inside when I was there so I cannot comment. Standing watching 6 on one side and six on another was wonderful. Georgia seemed great to watch the main courts and when I was there Georgia were on them so it was packed with a good atmosphere but the rest were a terrible viewing experience. Wake was good, I just preferred Illinois.
