Federer Named in Time Magazine's '100 Most Influential' List

Roger Federer has been named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World. The list will appear in the May 14 issue, on sale next Monday. The ATP World No. 1 and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador is featured in the section 'Heroes & Pioneers.'

The magazine features a tribute to Federer by Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, who writes: "His game is so spectacular and graceful—I can't tell you how many times I've asked friends, 'Did you see Roger's shot last week, the crosscourt winner he hit a zillion miles per hour?' "

"He's the best player of his time and one of the most admirable champions on the planet. That's certainly something worth crowing over. The beauty is, Roger Federer won't.

Who cares about this list? It has people like Justin Timberlake and I think George Bush didn't even make it. Look I don't like Bush nor his policies but how can the leader of a superpower not be on there and yet Timberlake is? This makes the entire list a joke. Perhaps Time left out Bush for editorial protest? Regardless Time has become a joke publication.

Yes Federer deserves to be on there. He is not only the best in a sport played by millions but he is becoming more and more of a marketing entity especially now with the Tiger comparisons. His influence in tennis is huge and his humanitarian efforts gives him societal influence as well.

He's clearly the greatest international sportsman (not-american) and conisdering the big international sports aren't ameircan football or basketball, being top in tennis really means something on the international scale.

Federer being on that list surprised me, but what surprised me even more was that Bill Gates wasn't on the list.
