Rome SF Schwartzman v. Shapovalov

Should be a cracker of a match. The clay court specialist v. the Canadian rap artist. LOL. Seriously, who do you see winning this one? I think Schwartzman might just be too much of a conundrum for Shapo to figure out. On the other hand, Shapo is playing seriously good tennis. I'll go with Shapo in 3.

They're both playing to get into the top 10. Shapo is there, provisionally, but can be bumped to #11 by Schwartzman if he wins the entire tournament.
If Shapo outs Schwarzmann then he bumps Monfils and takes 9th spot, if he wins the tournament he bumps Berrettini for 8th place. Should he make the top 10, long may he reign.

Edit So sometime Monday Shapo will be either 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th. If I were a betting man, and I am, I would say 9th.

I hope he wins at least tomorrow. There's a significant difference between a 9 seed and an 8 seed, especially with the Big 3 (Nadal, Djokovic, Thiem in this case) not having to be faced until at least the QFs.

Edit: In case it isn't clear, he's already the (provisional) #9 seed because Federer is out, so he only need to climb one more rank to get a top 8 seed.

I'm not sure what the tennis gods are up to. They are either conspiring to keep Shapo out of the top 10 by letting Diego win, or they are conspiring to give Shapo a shot at the title. Tennis gods are difficult to figure out.

Will not be watching. Pats vs Seahawks will be on. Will check out the replay. Rooting for Shapo, but cool with Schwartzmann winning as he beat Nadal.

Edit: Apparently Pats Seahawks is at 8:20pm. But I will watch the Bucs Panthers game at 1pm. Maybe will watch a bit of Shapo vs Diego as well.

The fact Djokovic is waiting in the final might be a mental issue with both. If someone else was waiting for them, the mindset might be different.

I like both these players, especially Denis, so I will be rooting hard for him. But the likely outcome will be a three set win for Diego.

agree with those saying tough call here. shapo hits sharper angles than nadal on serve which should get him a few more free pts given diego's reach. off the ground diego is the more solid player for sure but denis has made big improvements there and developed...reasonable rally patience of late.

i'm going to say shapo's ability to close and end pts, assuming a reasonably good serving day, edges out the win here. prediction conviction level=moderate.

Between Denis and Diego I don't know who I'm going to cheer for. So, let it be a long and great game.

Shapovalov can, if he stops overspraying

I'm of the opposite position. I think Shapo will implode against Djokovic, while Diego will be able to hang with him and possibly win. He seemed to be hitting the ball very cleanly against Nadal, and Djoker isn't exactly going to give Schwartzmann any weird looks. Djoker isn't really known for throwing opponents off rhythm.

Why would it be an issue? It should probably let them play freely. If it was Ruud waiting for them they might get tight, thinking about the huge opportunity to finally win a Masters.
