He wasn't winning in Australia regardless IMO.

I thought that also - 2019 was massively busy/non stop...He needed a break and should have skipped ATP Cup.....He was exhausted by AO this year...

I'm surprised he does that sometimes. He's been on tour for so many years, yet to me it still looks like he overplays. I could be wrong.
But he played a long 2019 season. Went deep in all GSs winning two. Competed the end of the season where he normally gets injured a lot. He then played Davis Cup. Then ATP Cup.
There was no break. What did he expect. No time to work on his game before AO.
Even though rafa knows his body better than anyone, I feel like he overplayed too much around that time.

I hope Rafa can employ his STRATEGIES and TACTICS on clay/RG against Novak on AO/Hard Court in case they meet in the Final. Just a few Tweaks to adjust with speed and bounce of the court.

I forget nadal didn't play too bad in that match.Underrated match by Nadal on indoors hardcourt.
It has to be one of the top 10 matches he had ever played in this kind of conditions.
Heading to Paris-Bercy and the historic 1000 victory for the Spaniard.
He would be the fourth tennis player in the Open Era to do so!
Unlucky to lose first set on TB, and then dealt with him after that. And he was the eventual champion. Only lost to nadal that tournament.

Hi Rafa family, I'm trying to find La Decima documentary Tennis Channel aired back when Rafa won his tenth FO. Does anyone remember what I am talking about? Do you know where I can find it? I have TC+ subscription and searched everywhere to no avail. It isn't on Youtube either from what I found. I was just curious and wanted to revisit it in my down time. Thanks for the help!

Also he'll probably always play Barcelona, even though he skipped Barcelona in 2010 and swept the masters events.He's been smarter when it's just his own participation on the line but as soon as it's about Spain, his brain goes right out the window

Rafa skipped the Barcelona tournament in 2010 because Monte Carlo & Barcelona & Rome Masters (mandatory) were held in three consecutive weeks that year. He said at his press conference that playing three tournaments in three consecutive weeks were too much in too short a period. His body (knees!) needed a break.
He underwent PRP treatment on his left knee during the break.

The children are divided into groups depending upon their age category as well as level of play. Nadal already knows how to beat Djokovic on grass, they played to 10-8 in the 5th Set at 2018 Wimbledon, and its very obvious that Nadal would have won if the roof was open.
On hardcourt I think Nadal just has to copy the pattern of play he used in the Roland Garros Final, because Nadal neutralized Djokovic's backhand by hitting high balls to Djokovic's backhand wing.
In their previous meetings Nadal fell into the trap of attacking Djokovic's backhand with flat balls, and when you hit flat and fast to Djokovic's backhand its the wrong tactic because it gives Djokovic pace which he uses for the cross-court backhand to attack Nadal's forehand.
Nadal will be keeping the ball nice and high on Djokovic's backhand wing from now on.
Nadal has figured Djokovic out.....not that he had to, because he was already beating Djokovic every year on clay - 2017 Madrid, 2018 Rome, 2019 Rome (including bagel) and now 2020 RG.
But Nadal has found a tactic that will help on hardcourt which was the only surface Djokovic had a noticeable advantage on.

After that, it is very likely that he will start an irreversible decline that will prevent him from being competitive with the new generation of players and I do not think he wants to play for a while longer if he doesn't see any chance of beating his opponents, who will be far ahead of him at that point, physically.
There is no doubt that his final tournament should be RG, the most beautiful marriage and union in the history of tennis, a symbiosis of body and soul, most likely, never seen in the sport.
Hence my doubt: Will Rafael Nadal want (or dream) to retire in the tournament he loves the most, representing Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games?
Don't you think that this would be the most perfect setting for the Bull of Manacor to give his final 'thrust' on a tennis court?

So that means if he's still a slam contender during the 2024 Olympic Games, he'll continue playing into 2025.
Also he recently said he'd consider having kids while playing tennis (whereas in previous years he said he'd only have kids after retiring from tennis), so he's starting to realize that he'll be around a lot longer.
He's dropped a total of 3 sets in the last 4 French Opens, and he's won 2 of the last 3 US Opens he's played (and retired in the SF of 2018 US Open), so it'll take many more years for Nadal to stop being a contender....

He looks so confident and relaxed. I wonder how long it is since he has felt this phyiscally relaxed at this stage of a season with absolutely no injuries to have to fight?
I was originally disappointed when he pulled out of US Open, but it was a masterstroke. Good for his morale and the feelings of his team.
Now he is at 20 majors, he is one of the favourites for the Australian Open, and has Roland Garros to look forward to again in 6 months time.
