She is revolting. She's lucky she isn't an ugly girl because noone would support her!

Her antics are the same as Serenas!

This thread, and all the others, proves why NBC should show her matches on tape rather than live matches in progress. Negative attention is still attention, there are SIX threads about her on the front page of this forum.

Keep it up, proving ESPN and NBC right with every thread, every post...

Well, when it's the only game in town, you're kind of forced to watch.

I really don't think there's a men's tournament going on in Paris right now.

I dont like her either..however you cant argue that she is not a fighter...you have to give it to her...i agree she has a ugly ..i mean ugly to the max game... None the less you cant blame her for staring at her opponents , etc.Women athletes in general are less gracious and respectful to their opponents. You dont see that happen on mens tour as much ...Hewitt use to be like that and he had to tone down...Auusies still rank him the most hated aussie perioud...( i think he was number 2...number 1 was a politician i think)...I agree if she would be average looking she would have a smaller ego...but thats the way it is...pretty girl with ugly game....look at karnakova...if she wasnt pretty she would be in line for food stamps...

But that wasn't my point. I'm saying that the number of threads on this topic on this forum reinforces NBC's programming decisions - show Sharapova (and Serena and Federer) because that is what sells. Looks like they are right and everyone here who complains about it is wrong.

Schnyder is a babe by tennis standards, but she's been known to be pretty b%^&Ey too. Especially towards highly publicized blonde Russians.

As much as a don't like Sharapova, players like Schnyder drive me crazy.

The fact that she couldn't win this match is just sickening. She's an idiot. She's got the talent and the lead in the match, but no brains or nerve.

Sarapove fights, which is her only redeeming quality.

Count me in.. I just can not stand this girl.. Shame-rapova.. it is very unsportmanship.. I think she is ugly.. My wife just refuse wearing Nike b/c of her. We were looking at a Land Rover and she were their model. We did not even have a second thought for not even think about test drive it.

I have not seen or talked to one person who likes her. By the way, she got a house right down the strand where I live in Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach. May be we're going to move soon.. Just can not stand her.

Nice racket change down 40-15, when she got the time warning. I hate people that pull that crap to win. I know its legal, under the time limit, but it's like you are admitting that you don't have what it takes today, so you have to bend the rules a bit. IMHO

I don't know. If i lost a match against an opponent who is a lot bigger and taller than me, I don't think I would feel so bad if I had tried my best. Tennis is a physical game (especially clay court tennis), and it's tough to beat a player who is bigger/taller/stronger than you are.

What is wrong with what Sharapova does? She gets her intensity up by pumping her fist between points? Gimme a break, people. I don't think that is unsportmanslike. People are way too sensitive if they take what another player does to pump him/herself up as an affront on their own games. Tennis is a one-on-one sport. You're TRYING to beat the other person! Besides, Sharapova doesn't scream HALF as loud as Serena does when she pumps herself up. The grunting is a little loud, I do agree on that.

As far as Sharapova going to get a new racket in the third set...who cares? If someone's game is that thrown off by something as innocuous as that, then they don't deserve to win a match, much less a Slam. Sharapova won the last four points with that new stick. She made the right call. I thought it was kind of weak of the ump to give her the time warning at that point. I'm sure it was a little longer than normal, but c'mon. Two or three seconds extra...at that stage?

And as far as people making apparel or automobile decisions based on Sharapova as one of the earlier posters had mentioned, wow...talk about loco. I think Maria also drinks water, eats grilled chicken and uses shampoo. Are you not going to have or use any of those things because she does as well? Jeee-zus, get a grip!

A HA HA HA HA!! Maria has finally arrived lol!

People need to let off Maria. people saying Maria is b1tchy don't know the half about Patty.
Patty is straight up loco!! How about when she faked Conchita on the handshake at net? Just because she doesn't grunt on points??

Maria is one of the best women's tennis players out there and Patty's inability to close her out just proves that. If it were a lesser player, Patty would have moved on today.

Rock on Maria! Into the QFs with a bad serve, on your worst surface.

To say that I hate her, and will not buy products endorsed by her is a stretch...but in the spirit of tennis she is a turd....the racquet change would not have been so offensive is she had shown some concern for the lost point by patty when she asked for the stop from some moron in the crowd screaming. No doubt.....she won the match with fight, but it was ugly, and unsportsman like. I prefer to see players win with class.

Yes pumping yourself up in a match is vital, even pivotal when you are down, but to celebrate and pump yourself up when a player shanks a ball, or tanks one in the net is just BS. If you hit a winner, pump your fist...if you force an error, again pump your fist. Celebrate your aces....go right ahead, but don't revell in the fact that another player shanks a ball, or you get a lucky net strap bounce. I know at the end of the day it is about winning, and she did so, but it is still ugly as hell and that is why there is this thread.

just my 2 cents.

I think it's funny when she cries after a loss. Does that get me in? I can't hate her. She's just a kid, and Yuri or whatever his name is is pushing a lot of that bs on her, trying to turn her into a machine. I do hate that guy. But someone compared her to Serena. What? Serena is a class act all around, gracious in defeat and victory, and the best female tennis player for my money.

Exactly the point. Sharapova only showed concern after the crowd was booing her for a good 5 minutes or so.

She's not just standing next to her at a basketball game. They are friends. They were friends before the incident and are still friends.
My point with the pic is if Golovin still considers Maria her friend after the incident (which Maria did nothing wrong btw) then who are you to say anything else??

So what if Maria didn't rush over to Golovin when she turned her ankle. She doesn't have to. She was shadow swinging and keeping focus because this was a match she did not want to lose.

If that is what she needs to do to keep focus and maintain a top 3 ranking then she should do it. You have no idea what was going through Sharapova's head. it is easy to shout at her from your home, but she is the one out there. She was the one with the lead in the second set and Golovin came back from no where and claimed the set.
She looked like she was about to do the same in the 3rd when the injury happened.
If I were Maria in that instant, I can't say with 100% authority, that I would have acted differently than she did.

No...people DO understand pro tennis and they also understand when people have fairplay and good sportsmanship. Those pics you posted...you think Maria really cared about Golovin during those moments...you just have to look at her face expression to figure it out. What those moments/pictures are for is just to save Maria's ass...i bet it wasn't her idea either, she was probably told to be more "human" by her manager or so to improve her already ruined image.

If I remember rightly she took a shower last year at Wimbledon in between sets - is this right and was she allowed to do it ? I hope someone beats her because I rarely, truly dislike any player - even the ones who beat Nadal, but this girl just does not show sportsmanship

I also dislike her attitude on the court as well as her hideous game, but you gotta hand it to her, she's a great fighter. I just wish she would lose next round and we won't have to see her shrieking once more.

This is odd.

In the Adult league tennis forum there are often discussions about bad sportsmanship/gamesmanship and the general reply is something like- it's legal, so get over it.

A pro player goes a little ott in what was a most enjoyable, and very tight match (esp the finish), gets roundly boo'ed for a decision made by the umpire and then gets slated by an internet board. -From what I saw, the only questionable thing was the racquet change- still, get over it.

Nadal does the same delay tactics with butt picking and sock adjusting when he is down a breakpoint.

Federer called the trainer twice when he was losing to Canas in IW.

Sharapova just attracts more attention because of her looks. As she said in the press conference later, "A tennis player cannot be Mother Teresa at the same time".

you can't even compare these 2 guys that represent men's tennis in a very good way to Maria...i agree they all use the same delaying techniques but the way they do it makes all the difference

As she said in the press conference later, "A tennis player cannot be Mother Teresa at the same time".

No, but at least a tennis player can definitely have manners on the court and respect the other player.
