Crisper Hyper G?

I've got a v7 Blade 18x20 coming in and the last time I had this frame I strung with Hyper G and hated it. Way too muted.

I'm not going to repeat that string mistake but what would be some good options that are similar to Hyper G but with a crisper and livelier feel/response? I already have a set of Tourna Silver 7 Tour that I plan to start with but other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tour bite feels like a crisper and stiffer hyper G to me.
My only concern with TB is the stiffness. But I'm thinking the v7 might handle it pretty well.

I vote the above post gets the Occam’s Razor of the month award! (y)
(I haven’t tried Confidential though.)
TB has a different shape to HG though. More edges. And I've had experiences where strings with more edges round off sooner and lose some of their spin.

I agree TB or Confidential. I like both of them but favor TB for crispness.
I'm starting to see a consensus here.

HG TB are 5 sided...i believe confidential is too. In Solinco’s product description, it states that they are 4 sided but they are actually 5...someone proved it somewhere else on the forum. Not sure why Solinco is falsely advertising 4 sided shape

As an alternative to staying in the Solinco family, I would suggest Tourna Silver 7 Tour.

Edit: oops sorry I can’t read, didn’t see you already had a set of that coming. Carry on.

I've recently experimented with a few of these strings as well. I found Tourna Silver 7 Tour and Confidential to be more crisp and most similar. Silver 7 Tour seemed more playable over the life of the string. Confidential seemed to lose it's tension after a few hours of play. Tour Bite was just too stiff for me. Maybe I should try it at a much lower tension but I found Tour Bite too be a bit harsh on my arm.

While I like Tour Bite myself, I can see one finding Tour Bite a bit harsher compared to Hyper G. However, I didn't find S7T to be very similar to Hyper G. S7T felt softer, the strings moved a lot more (ifelt I had to straighten them after every point), and durability was poor (snapped in 1.5h vs 2.5h for HyperG). Just my 2 cents.

Solinco Confidential is your answer

How is its life compared to Hyper G? I've seen some people say it drops off sharply after 4 hours.

I didn't notice this, to be frank. I thought the playability remained good until it broke. The reason why I stopped using it is that I transitioned to a very open 16x19 Angell pattern (TC100, TC95), and aggressively shaped polys notch and break too quickly in these frames. So I went from using Hyper G or Confidential to using 4G Soft, which is round and increases my play time by more than 50%. You shouldn't have an issue in a tighter 16x19 or (obviously) a 18x20.

I was the one who published a couple of short videos on it. Tour Bite:

Hyper-G:

They, along with Confidential, are all five sided in every gauge that I have access to.

To the OP, my extended demo of the v7 Blade 98 18x20 was with 17 gauge Silver 7 Tour at 44 pounds. Worked great in that racquet - just about perfect amount of feedback with the crisper S7T and more muted v7 Blade, and the thinner gauge allowed for high spin capability.

Appreciate that info. I went with S7T in the Blade for the first round at 47/45.

I agree, yesterday I played with Hyper G fresh strung and what a disappointment I had. I prefer much more the feel and crispness of Solinco Tour Bite

Hyper G works great in a lot of frames. However, I've recently taken a liking to Hyper G Soft in my Ezones. The Blade is just a frame that needs to be livened up a bit.
