Yonex Ezone Tour 98

I transitioned from the 2020 Ezone 100 to the 98 and now the EZT. I thought the Ezone 100 was a good stick, very forgiving and all around players racquet. The 98 you need have a little bit more skill to wield it and know how to connect with the ball. The VCore 100 and 98 I really liked but I found the frame to be too stiff, unforgiving and off center hits are not pleasant at all. I’ve never tried the extended length Ezones, but I felt they would have limited my net game. To answer your question about the EZT, of your able to, demo the 98 first then the tour. The EZT is a great racquet! (I have 3 of them with a 4th on the way), but you should know the differences between the two frames. The EZT has 332 strung static weight and 330 swing weight. You definitely want to have the strength and skill to play with it the entire match.
Also for 7 years I played with head youtek ig speed 315g racket. It weighed 350 grams. Therefore, the weight of the 98 tour is not a problem. But Head speed had a very low power level. Also swingweight 320, due to the balance and weight distribution around the hoop, it felt too light and unstable despite its decent weight. So I was always looking for rackets with a balance offset to the head with swingweight 325+. Judging by many reviews, this racket is. Although the balance without strings seems to be only 320 mm. I know that you can modify the racket as you like :) But for some reason I don't really like hanging lead tape, putting on leather grips, etc.

Curious question, do you feel the need to have 4 of same rackets? I normally keep 2 in my bag and it mostly has been sufficient as i've never had to go beyond the 2nd racket if i break a string. I understand you can probably put different string tensions in each racket and pick one up according to the conditions and how one is feeling. Maybe I'm just trying to get a justification to get a 3rd one :p

It depends on what strings you are using, how you play, etc. Previously I used strings with a diameter of 1.25. And twice in the tournaments it was such that my strings broke on 4 rackets. Since then I've been playing with 1.3 strings. And so far this has not happened again :)

We can ALWAYS justify buying more tennis gear right!? Just my opinion, but if you have access to a stringer or have your own stringing machine you can get by with two. However, three is better and four is the best option. Ultimately you have do what’s best for you and your budget.

Curious: do you all think the Ezone Tour is here to stay for do think it’ll be a one off for this generation?

As in do you think the 2022 ezone update will also offer a Tour model or do you think they’ll somewhat merge the specs of the 98/Tour and the 2022 will be more the DR spec.

Unless you work for Yonex I doubt anyone would have the answer to that as of now.

^^Agreed- and even if you work for Yonex, unless you have access to regional and worldwide sales data for the EZ98 and EZ98T models, you wouldn't be be able to make an educated guess. But the marketing department still has a few years to make that decision before the next generation is released anyway.

Maybe someone tried to play technifibre tfight 305 rs? Any thoughts on this? In terms of characteristics, they seem to be somewhat similar.

What went wrong with the EZT?

The dreaded tennis elbow.. never had it with any of the rackets in the past. I’m going to try the Vcore or the regular Ezone to see if it’s any better.
Dang! And you've got a comfortable string in it to. Maybe just a result of playing more than usual after an extended layoff?

The Yonex Ezone 100 is a fairly comfortable racket, I really liked it, the vcore 100/100 plus seemed too hard to me, especially if it didn't hit the center. I don't really understand how 98 tour can give tennis elbow. According to its characteristics, this racket is the most comfortable racket in the Ezone and vcore series (not vcore pro series). In general, I read the reviews and surprised. Lots of reviews that 98 tour stiff racket. I also read reviews that the weight fluctuates + -5g. All the Yonex I played had very high QC and + -1.5g

Yes I thought the same and I was brushing off a lot of comments from reviewers who said this racket caused them TE. I did play with it without issue for a few months. But now that I have the tennis elbow, everytime I play with it, it’s causing more soreness. My racket weights are perfect within spec. My daughter actually plays with the ezone 100 so maybe I’ll just try that out too, thanks for the suggestion

Its kind of strange, I had been playing with the rackets without issue for 3 months or so(3 times a week). Then I played a doubles Usta match against hard hitting players where I think my rackets strings were dead(polys) and that caused the issue. My arm is almost ok now but I have been playing with my older Gravity Pro to recover(great for the arm btw). As soon as I played another set yesterday with the yonex the soreness returned. So sadly have to look for something else as much as I love these rackets.

In terms of comfort, many praised the Yonex vcore pro 97hd. But I'm afraid this racket will have little power. Unfortunately, in the country where I live it is impossible to take rackets for demo. Therefore, I cannot say anything about 97hd, since none of my friends play with this racket.

I have mild tennis elbow and now ulnar wrist pain. I've never had issues with any other racquet before. I'm taking a month off and see if it gets better, if it really is the racquet or just from playing too much during covid.

It's weird RA would not indicate this frame causes any discomfort but way to much feedback it does even from very high level players like Karue Sell.

I have demoed the 97HD, not for me. Like you said it doesn’t have too much power due to the thin beam. It’s similar to Gravity Pro but I prefer the Gravity over it.

Yes exactly, I think it must be something in the design beyond RA. I saw another popular YouTuber tennisnerd also got TE with this frame

To be honest, nerd guy is wrong so many times but i didn't even bother to try this frame because of Karue's feedback. He loved the frame but said every time he played it he would feel soreness after and stopped using it.

Much less power than the Ezone 98 tour? Besides power, are there any problems with the 97hd?
97hd and Gpro where very similar to me, with the obvious difference that the 97 is more manueverable for the 1hbh and also serves better. That said, if you don't have natural gut somewhere in the 97hd stringbed, you're not maximizing what it's good at.

Think KS is getting "signals" from yonex about what frame to push next. I used the same 360 speed pro that he was with earlier. The EZT absolutely powers through shots (no harshness) that the speed would feel brittle against.

It doesn't make sense to be honest that yonex tells him to move to the VCORE 95 and say the Ezone Tour causes soreness. If anything, it is evidence of the opposite

I mainly look at Yonex rackets. I don't know why, but I love the shape of the head and the fact that they are made in Japan. For myself, I realized that the vcore series is not mine. Now the choice I have is between Ezone 100, Ezone 98 tour and vcore pro 97 HD. I read the reviews and now I'm a little confused in the choice :)

EZ is the better all around. Best to work with that.

Sorry, just giving personal ime examples: vcore<speed<ezone comfort.

The Speed you've seen Karue using is an extended length, weighted-up pro stock version he used to get from Head. It's not just the past generation 360 Speed.

Anyone can compare the EZT with the VCore 95 red 2018? I havee the EZT with the solinco HG and had great power and control. Just thinking it's a bit too muted for feel. Could be the string but would love to hear impression of Vcore 95 users compared to EZT 98 Yonex.

Big fan of Vcore 95 2018 and have also tried EZT. The head size and shape are very similar, and thats pretty much it. Vcore 95 needs to be weighted on hoop but even then EZT is much more stable and forgiving with bigger sweetspot. For feel, comfort, control and manuevarability Vc95 is better imo. To add, Vc95 2021 is somewhere in between I think and I am currently trying it and liking it actually... but EZT is a hammer, even VC95 2021 modified cant reach.

I am a yonex fanboy too, the 97 HD and Ezone Tour are petty different, the most important stat differences are the HL balance and stiffness. The HD is different from every stick for sale from any brand on stiffness, and the Ezone Tour, for me, was way too balanced and not head light enough for my one handed backhand, serve, nor volleys. The Tour is weighted for modern strokes, whipper and 2 handed backhands.

VC95 is way more maneuverable, less built in power, to me softer feeling. EZT was stiffer, more hefty, too head heavy. I just can't use frames that are 4-5 HL or heavier strung. I've owned 2018 VC95, 2021 VC95, EZT, VCP HD, VCP 330. Rankings in order for me are VC95 2021, VCP 330, 2018 VC 95, EZT, VCP HD

Update on my racket journey.. have sold one of my EZT's and hopefully the other one will go soon. Playing with the 2021 VCore98 now and it feels so great on the arm! It's probably the best serving racket I've played with. I do miss the heft of the EZT and had lot of balls sailing long. Will experiment adding weight to beef up the stick. I wanted to stick with Yonex so this seems to be a good compromise to me.

Just yesterday I went back to my VC98 (prior gen) while my EZT is getting restrung and it was nice to play with but it definitely feels like it gets pushed around a little due to the weight/sw of it compared to the EZT. I still enjoy hitting with the VC98 and will definitely keep it but man, I really enjoy the EZT. It's the first Ezone since the DR98+ that I've found a liking to. I been using the Ezone series since the AI98 but never got on with that one.

I've played every Ezone since including the extended DR and Ezone (prior gen). I've typically stuck with the Ezone series of racquets just because I enjoy what they give me for my game. I feel they are the total package when it comes to performance - they have a blend of everything that other Yonex frames might have as their standout feature, like spin, power, control, etc.

Threw leather on this bad boy and it plays so sweet. I see a lot of posts about arm issues. I personally haven't experienced any yet - I have received ulnar issues in the past and take a lot of precautions when playing for extended periods.
Had to change my game a bit to reap the benefits of this racquet - taking longer full swings and pushing my weight into my shots. As a result I am getting some deep heavy balls off this stick.

I'm looking for a polystring that fits EZT.
With the Poly Tour Pro 125, the tension is not maintained well, and if you use it for 1 hour, you will lose control or the string will break.
So far, the Gosen G Tour 1 16L is the best, but is there any other polystring that suits you?

I haven't tried other strings yet - currently using babolat hurricane 17. But in my experience PTP125 does not last long - my main string is usually volkl cyclone and I find that satisfying my needs more. I still need to test it on my EZT though.

Loving the 98 tour. Awesome all around racket. Need to add 2 more to my bag . Been pairing it with a bunch of strings in cluding yonex's ptp , luxilon ele, luxilon alu power, solinco 4g..... and others. This stick seems to repsond to whatever i put in. Ive noticed , personally, that the @54 lb range works great.
