VSense 10 Tour Club! (probably just me talking to myself)

Welcome

Now there will be 4 of us talking to ourselves.

Those mods sound like it would be nice. I hit with it stock for a while then added lead on the handle. Figured I liked it and put on a leather grip. I do like the volkl leather a bunch. Even had/have some Becker grips on a few racquets.

What are you playing with now?
Thanks!
I'll see when I get the opportunity to string (one of) them up and take it for a spin - it's a bit difficult with little kids at home due to the pandemic...
Currently, my go-to racquet is a heavily modified Gravity MP Lite, which I really like because it's very forgiving and comfortable. Hits a reliable ball.
- I've had some Völkls in the past, but sold all of them and thought I had moved on from having (too) many racquets in my collection. Notably, I did enjoy playing with the PB 9 (also modified), so that was one reason I had been looking at the V-Sense 10 Tour for quite some time already.

Ugh - just received a notice from the retailer saying the racquets are unfortunately not in stock anymore and won't become available again (I guess maintaining a complex website sometimes leads to such errors).
So now it looks like I won't be able to join the club, what a pity...

Yeah supply's been drying up

If you check the for sale/trade forum there were some listed recently in L3 and L4 grips iirc. No clue if they've sold.

It looks like 10 Tours are a little easier to find than the V-Sense 10 325g. But still, there don’t seem to be many; though I only did a cursory search.

ugh....i don't want to look. lol

I've noted it before...been hitting a bunch with this...mostly drills and rallies. Hardly any matches. This past weekend I did have a doubles match and served fairly well.

I don't have a reliable serve most days SMH. Other days the ball looks like a beach ball and just floats waiting to be smacked. Small chance though that it could be the strings...played a match with multi/poly and served fairly well compared to the synthetic I was using. I'll blame the strings and the overgrip

I hit one of my son's last night for about ten minutes, and I have to say, this outing was different than my last; have no explanation for it, but I was dialing this frame in. It's solid, even in stock form. Reminds me so much of the London in how it swings, but ball quality is more dynamic with the 10 Tour, and stability is much better. Maneuverability is standout, and stability and sweet spot size aren't too compromising. I have a third coming for him and a fourth on the line. Also have an option on a fifth. He likes it that much:D

4 racquets (minimum) is definitely the way to go:D

I've had to talk myself out of buying more because I don't have space

Thinking about snagging one of these to test out. Currently using the Speed MP 360 which I have weighted up. Does anyone have any info that might push me to purchase?

They're scarce so better get it before I do! Is that enough of a push?

Love these racquets and would definitely advise it. Imo they're better with modding, would advise at least leather grips and 4" lead at 12 o'clock per the tennis warehouse reviews (almagro's actual specs are good too, but could require some youth and fitness.)

Definely getting rarer so if you can snatch one or two up you might as well. You can always resell and make most of it back.

The thing holding me back is that I already get too lazy to string 4 in a timely manner.

Maybe I need to buy an electronic stringer so I can get a 5th and 6th racquet......
I am just holding myself back because I don't want to spend money on another (watch me go buy junk food instead). but hey...a new string machine needs a new racquet right? lol

It sounds like pro stock based off the page. Though I’m not familiar with pricing on those. Or well those in general.

Edit: Wait never mind it seems like a normal racquet just customized.

Ah I finally see a couple L2 Tours selling for reasonable prices... even if for collection’s sake and/or sentimentality, do I want to go this route or a used 325g...

Based on reviews I've seen definitely the tour over the 325s.

I haven't tried the 325 but it seemed to have very mediocre things said about it.

I think Volkl should do a gen 2 version of this frame. As far as the old Tour 10mp and PB 10 Mid, this frame is as close as it gets with its beam width and feel.
Not really liking the V Feel snd V Cell offerings with the exception of the V 8 Pro which is sort of a stand alone model anyway.

Something tells me you could influence this happening before any of us could. We're for it. Do what you must.

Honestly, I wish they'd release it or something similar with the leather grip by default. Still light enough most people would weight it up, but saves time on the annoying part of doing so.

and i'm the guy that puts leather on everything. so sometimes if the static weight is somewhat up there...i then make it a beast/brick.

oh i hear you. this racquet was really nice for me to build up. My Bumblebee MP though is already crazy heavy with out a leather grip. lol

Would y’all argue that this is one of the best or better Volkl racquets of the previous decade?

Edit: I ask because since my return to tennis I’d like to purchase a Volkl to commemorate that, and... well, I’m sentimental.

My Volkl experience is very little. Also the timing of my experience against my level of play could skew this.

DC London
DC Melbourne
PB10 MP

This vSense though feels like a great racquet and probably could go down as one of the top racquets put out by Volkl

Hard to tell, Its the only one from the last decade I've tried. My previous sticks were from the oughts.

Based on reviews it's this, the V8 pro, or the V feel 8 probably.

I started hitting Volkl around 2010 with a 2008 C10 Pro. It was a great frame but too heavy for my level of play at the time. When I faced someone who took time away from me, I struggled. I'd fare much better with it these days, but I choose not to. The Becker London was a much better fit, and I hit it for several years. The Melbourne was reportedly stellar, but I spent hardly any time with it. Another classic is the PB10 Mid, and it surely ranks up there with all of them if you have the chops for it. I found the PB10 MP very soft and comfortable but anemic. The Organix 10 295 and Super G 295 are/were amazing racquets but for a different kind of player than I. They seem built for speed and spin and don't quite have the dwell I need.

Honestly, I think the best Volkl of the previous decade for the vast majority of players was the Organix V1 Pro. Wish I had kept mine and stockpiled them. All that said, the 10 Tour is the only 10-series from Volkl that I've considered playing myself since the C10 Pro, so I'd rate it highly. But I feel like the V1 Pros have been the best thing going for Volkl in some time. Just my opinion.

Gonna be trying out some new strings soon, will report in when I do.

I think I have a free trial for ttw members coming from Mayami and I was gonna try out tier one's boost hybrid as well.

He's liking Cyclone Tour/Ghost Wire at 48#. Almost a boost hybrid, even down to the colors, but softer;)

Big fan initially of the Tier One Boost setup!
Free launch angle (aka free spin) but I didn't feel like I was losing depth off it. Strung 46x44. Felt like I was getting more pop and more spin on the serves. Non-serve shots that I needed to flatten out didn't always drive as much as I want, but less an issue than other setups I've tried that were spin-centric.

Normally I string tourna big hitter silver 7 tour at 42x42.

Final test is I need to play a set with a 4.0 friend of mine who likes to drive flat balls.
Last time I tried a spinnier set-up than the tourna on him too much popped up into his strike zone and he just obliterated me.

This setup doesn't seem like it would have that issue, as if still getting good depth and I felt really confident angling short balls. But I'm not counting this as a win/ new setup until I see how it does against him and how long the setup lasts.

Late to the party, but I've joined the club! I picked up a couple of those "Player stock" frames from Volkl, customized to Almagro's specs (supposedly for Almagro himself - could that possibly be true? I remain skeptical, but hardly care). I posted more details on the 'holic thread, in case anyone is interested: https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/diary-of-a-racketaholic.347887/post-15871674
I tinkered with mine based on tws posting of 'almagro spec' iirc theirs was a bit heavier than yours.

I started at 325, went up to 345 and have settled down to around the spec you have here.
Great racquets overall!

I've been playing a lot of tennis, thankfully, but in the last two days started noticing a really bad sound on off center hits - like I thought maybe the racquet was cracked. Mystified, I started knocking on the frame this evening at home, and noticed it's coming from the handle, so I took off the grip and the butt cap and actually the pallet too. Still, I heard the strange clacking rattle. There was silicone in the handle so I pried that out and discovered that while one side had very little silicone in there, the other had a bit more AND some kind of lead/metal stick, about 2 inches long and maybe a quarter inch wide (almost like a AAA battery). This is what was clacking around! Pretty crazy. Anyway, I noticed my other one actually has the same issue, though less pronounced at the moment, and found the same basic setup there also (silicone with a ~2inch rod/stick). For both sticks, I weighed the silicone/metal combo (roughly 18g in both cases), and replaced with an equivalent amount of Blue Tack, and that should fix it up nicely. I'll post some pictures of this at some point.

The other notable finding for me was the there is no V-Sensor in the handle - There are just two open tubes like you'd see in most racquets. This is totally different from the retail version (I have one of those) which does have the sensor and the hole in the center to hold it.

Anyway, I've really been loving these Almagro player stocks. Such amazing feel, combined with good playability too - not a hard racquet to use. I feel like it's helping me a lot more than it ever hurts me.

Welp, too humid in New England lately.

Overgrips got wet and racquet sailed outta my hand on a serve, fracturing the frame.

Anyone moved on and looking to sell their sticks?
I've got 3 and a decent amount of grommets, so I don't want to move to another frame.
But it can be hard to keep up with stringing w.o 4 frames.

If you have more than one with an L4 / 4½ grip I'd love to grab them. Bonus if they have a leather grip but no foam.
