Very interesting what Popsicle says here...

So Pospisil is claiming that the Head of the ATP bawled him out for an hour and a half for his activity on behalf of the Players Association.

I think he has to realise that there is a price to pay for his organisational activity and that he has to compartmentalise his emotions.

Part of the reason for Djokovic heading the Association is that he is too big a figure to be handled in too discourteous a manner.

What did he say? Too lazy to watch the video.

He said the leader of the ATP (Gaudenzi? The chair?) screamed at him for 90 minutes in a meeting for trying to unite the tour.
Umpire told him to say it to ATP Chair off the court.
Popsy said he did not know why he was supporting this...(tournament?)
Popsy then said he would be gladly defaulted.
There was some foul language.
McDonald just drank his juice and looked on.

They'd never treat Djoke like this. Of course we don't know what's Djoke's current stance on PTPA...

I get the impression that the PTPA tends to turn ATP announcements from on high into a rough and tumble debate when they have player meetings.

Neither side are used to such political drama apparently.

I'd like to hear his recounting of what happened. Bet he'd laugh about it!

I got two impressions from McD and both are not good:
- Retiring from a match in college with his opponent 2 points away from winning it. He was injured and serving underhand, but still totally classless.
- Serving underhand against Nadal at RG. Rafa naturally hit a winner off of it, but still bush league.

Oh I didn't know about those things.
Ok, makes me think he'll definitely be laughing about Pospisil's outburst.
In answer to your original question, I don't think Djokovic would get treated like this.

If you do that sort of thing on this forum your comments will be moderated, no?

And the reality is that his expletive-ridden rant will cost him dearly, so he gave away the high ground and left himself out of pocket.

I don't see the relation between Popsicle's argument and what actually happened on court. Seems like 2 unrelated events. Was he just being opportunistic for footage?

There is no logical connection other than the fact that he is angry at the ATP and this is an ATP event. And that the clash with the Head happened the day before and it is still annoying him.

Popsy then half-heartedly invites the chair to default him and says said he would be gladly defaulted he would then gladly sue this “entire organization.” (presumably meaning the ATP).
Commentator cuts in while Popsicial says something about “one of the biggest law firms.” (presumably referring to Norton Rose Fulbright who was reportedly advising the PTPA.)
There was some foul language.
McDonald just drank his juice and looked on.

Bold, italicized and strikethrough added.

It can’t be easy to always keep the off-court stuff away from the court. Obviously VP (founding member of the PTPA and along with Djoker, I think, the two most identified with the PTPA) was aggravated by a meeting which included the head of the ATP and it was on his mind during the match.

(OK, Pops is an idealist. He means well. Actually he means really, really well, because he cares about fellow players. BUT that doesn't often work out in the real world where politics rule. )

Ah, so that is what you call someone who refuses to accept facts and sees the shadow of a treacherous conspiracy around every corner...an IDEALIST!

Still no clue what or why there is a dispute or whatever between these two organizations, as they both have no clue how to make whatever it is they want work.

Who cares.

So, what is the status of PTPA these days ??

It must have set a record as the organization that stayed alive for the least number of days.

The ATP is comprised of players and tournament owners. The PTPA is comprised solely of certain ATP players. The existence of the PTPA is, even without knowing more about its precise goals, arguably inherently in conflict with the ATP despite some PTPA members stating it’s merely an ancillary entity to the ATP.

[2] The ATP managed to create a new, successful tour and has been around from ‘89-present so I don’t think your statement is accurate. Whether the PTPA can make a go of it in addition to or perhaps at some point instead of the ATP remains to be seen. The last time the players united in opposition to the tour governance structure they got rid of the MTC (and the ITF influence) and set up the ATP with certain tournament owners. They needed tournament owners then but it’s not clear they do now. It is clear a number of top players are not satisfied with the operation of the ATP. Others are just fine with it.

[3] To each their own but some fans might find tennis governing issues more interesting than another GOAT debate. Though I appreciate other fans just care about The Good TennisSM and don’t care about the behind the scenes machinations.

The Good Tennis is a servicemark of Rafa Nadal.

The ATP is not run by players. They merely have some sort of advisory input. The interests of tournament owners and players are opposed, obviously, and the owners have the power.

The PTPA is a professional association that is not in the business of running tennis tournaments. It's in the business of putting pressure on owners for the benefit of players.

The ATP refuses to engage with the PTPA so, hence, relations devolve into slanging matches of which Pospisil has made us all too aware.

You actually got that impression of Mackie? One of the most humble and likable guys on tour?

Which top 50 players are involved with the PTPA atm? Other than Djoke and Popsicle.

Pioneers:

If you google you can probably find out most of those that have publicly stated they’re in. I recall Milos dissing the ATP so I believe he’s very in. The two biggies that quickly came out against were Fedal. (Both are obviously doing very well with the status quo.)

fun/random fact: he beat another Canadian with a surname starting with P using an underhand serve

It's likely Gaudenzi has it in for Pospisil given the latter's part in helping Djokovic to get rid of his predecessor.

afaics, he seemed pretty rattled. He was in bad mood a long time, talking to himself, and he seemed to just be able to keep away from the Edge of cliff. And then he just lost it. If he was faking or if that was deliberate, he’d a world class actor.

I don’t have anything against him, i even enjoy watching hil play, but there should be more of a penalty for everything that throws your opponent put, deliberate or not. MTOs and rage-fits should be penalized with a point or a game.

I wonder if the retirement was urged by his coach (Billy Martin?).
Serving underhand against Nadal (who is a beast) while he’s positioning 25 feet behind the baseline to receive?... I don’t consider it bush league....I’m waiting to see the 50 and over drop shot serve against him. Lol

It's an association. They are legally registered entities. You can look up its articles of association if you're interested.

They are shadier than the ATP and that is saying a lot. How long has it been since they were "registered"?

Where can one read about their immediate goals, plans how they will achieve them, etc?
