Rafa Nadal -the greatest outdoor tennis player in history?

It is often forgotten or deliberately overlooked, but Nadal is the most successful tennis player in outdoor conditions in the history of the game. He has more outdoor Open Era titles than any other player and is the only player in the entire history of the sport to win his non-Covid slam titles in outdoor conditions (the others all won one or more non-Covid titles under closed roofs).

Given that the games was created to be an outdoor sport (in contrast to real tennis), there is a real argument for Nadal being the purest tennis champion in history.

I don't know about that "purest champion", never heard of it.
Yet - he probably is most successful tennis player in outdoor conditions. Tier 1 ATGs have many of these "most successful in" records, and Rafa is definitely one of few tier 1 ATGs.

Lol no. Give him any non clay surface and he is totally inferior to his biggest rivals. He needs a weak era and weak cupcake draws to be a contender outside clay. On clay yes he is the master, although Djokovic manage to close the gap even on clay in the recent years, having positive H2H at RG in the last 6 years. ;)

The "purest" champion lol, guy who plays serve and volley once in 5 years. He was constantly getting bounced in 1st week of Wimbledon in his prime years, if we're putting emphasis on tradition (and "purity" lmao) then it's a big no.

Nadal is the best player in high bouncing conditions (and even that, with modern sticks), that's about it.

Fedovic are both amazing when the ball stays low and Fed won a Wimbledon title coming in on every 1st serve.

Besides the point anyway, I never claimed either of them are the "purest" players ever. I'm saying Nadal certainly ain't, he needs specific conditions to really shine, always did.

Maybe. But does he have the most compact forehand or backhand? I don't think so.

There are many ways to describe The Nadal. 'Pure' is not one of them, unless conjugated with another pertinent adjective.

I expect you to give the full information about the NA Hard Court season if you mention it in your post, and that includes the Cincinnati titles....you're selective presentation of results is just that, selective....so allow me to show you the full title haul for the NA season for all the big three.

As I pointed out Rafa has missed 6 Cincy tournaments but if this makes you sleep better, great. I'm all for it. Nothing alters the fact that neither Federer or Djokovic, in all the years that they have won Cincy, they have never managed to win the American Hard Court Swing.

Rafa deciding to skip Cincinnati because he openly stated many times he doesn't like the conditions, isn't a plus point in this case for him.

The only time he won Cincinnati was the year Federer was playing the season with an injured back. You like to mention just how injured Nadal is all the time, yet the one time he did win Cincinnati, Federer was injured.

And another reason why he doesn't play Cincinnati....this is what happens when he comes up against Djokovic there. No sets won.
