HELP - Needed Arm-Friendly-Poly that feels like OGSM White 16g

Hi All

Any Arm Friendly Co-Poly (any gauge) that has the DEAD, LOW POWERED, LOW LAUNCH feel of OSGM 16 gauge (ive only played white)? For context I now play with a 281g (stock strung weight) Wilson Burn Team 100 v2.0 that has a 16x20 pattern that is pretty evenly space AND that has been loaded up to 321g / 6 HL @ approx 320 swing weight. Very low powered racquet that has a soft 60 flex and ultra buttery feel... (may be lower).

I love this string and racquet combo... a little more spin to keep the ball in wouldnt hurt. Only reason for this request.

String nerds - help needed...

OGSM 16/1.30 mm has a stiffness of 192. Go to the reporter section of TWU and select all poly strings at 51# ref tension by name and stiffness. Report out the by name and sort by stiffness.

Candidates include Volkl Cyclone 19, VCT 18 and Solinco Tour bite 18. You can always adjust stiffness by adjusting ref tension, so your request is not really that restrictive. You can drop ref tension by 10# and see that stiffness also drops dramatically.

Nice starting points from the scientific standpoint... Will look into that.

Also heard from DURAFLUXX from TIER ONE that is designed to play like a Synthetic Gut apparently.

Any real world opinions also welcome and appreciated.

here are the only strings that have some poly that are within shouting distance of OGSM 16 in all three of stiffness, tension less, and energy return.

From T1 the closest would be Ghostwire, I have strung a few sets of 16g, 17g and have a reel of 19g that I like to hybrid as main crossed with 18g OGSM or I use it as a cross with a shaped poly main.

I would reccomend try a pack of some very thin hybrid poly/s.gut combo before you go full poly.

what quickly comes to mind is babolot rpm power. it doesn't move/slide like a poly and gives you a low launch angle.

I have a reel of 18g OGSM that I'd like to start using as a cross. If I use polys as mains at 46 or 48 lbs, what tension should I use for the 18g OGSM? I think SG should be strung at a higher tension

ghost wire and regular ol’ white sonic pro are the closest ive used, although they still dont feel the same as synthetic gut.

What frame ate you using? What strings are you switching from and what tension?

IMHO having a lower tension on the cross allows for easier movement of the mains which help generate spin, however the playability will be shorter because whe the mains stretch they start to move like crazy but don't lock up.

Personally, I use the same tension for both on most of my frames and if I go lower on the cross is no more than 1lb difference.

I’m using the Blade V8 16x19. I was using hyper g soft with ghost wire @ 46 lbs but I’m almost out of GW. I have a reel of OGSM. Not sure how a synthetic gut would play at low tension

I string often so I don’t mind that as long as I get about 10 hours or so

If such a unicorn existed, I'd be first in line. I love the feel of a fresh crisp syn gut, but it never lasts. I love the spin potential of new poly, but it gets too harsh too quickly.

Someday i hope string makers will solve the conundrum of a long playing, durable, slippery, resilient and elastic string that will become the GOAT string for all us rec hackers that can't afford a fresh poly string bed every 5 hours.

I’m not a string breaker but even if I got 6 hours, I just want to know what tension to string OGSM at if I string the mains with poly at 46 lbs.

OGSM is stiffer than most syn gut or multi strings. If you're using the same gauge as poly, I would start with 53-54 and see how that feels.

Have you ever tried Gosen Sidewinder or Tier One Strike Force RIP? A couple of people suggested rough poly strings (including the above two) have a similar feel to Syn-gut.. I was thinking of Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough as well.

SOFT material
ROUGH texture
THICK gauge - 17 (not 18/19)

Once I find that poly, I wish to cross it with OGSM to enchance the syngut feel. My original plan was to cross with Ghostwire but that has the opposite feel of syngut probably.

I just strung Mayami Big Spin 1.25 mains @ 46 and OGSM 1.15 cross @ 53 lbs. I'm playing this weekend and will report back :)
My other go to poly these days is HGS 1.25. I'll try that after

what tension should I use for the 18g OGSM?

This always depends on the hoop details (pattern & length vs width).

I use Stringway's tension calculator tool for my first try and then season to taste on subsequent jobs (typically no more than a 0.3 kg tweak is all that I change).

Pre-BT7 Natural gut - or Pacific Tough Gut ( in a 16X20 tightly patterned frame)

Try the Gosen AK Pro CX. It's not a poly but it has got a lot more spin potential in a full bed compared to OGSM.
Will definitely check it out. I played with Mayami Big Spin and OGSM and I feel like I was getting substantially less spin than crossing BS with ghost wire. It also felt deader. I strung BS @ 48 and OGSM @ 53 lbs. I usually do 48/46 or 46/46 when hybriding with all poly

It's a very nice string, theres a thread on here about it with good reviews + some youtube channels have some reviews too. It's a syn gut with all sorts of fancy tech in it + it's quite a bit more slippery than OGSM.
