Jabeur vs. Sevastova, what do we think? Sevastova has a knack for getting into people's head, but Jabeur looks pretty unshakable. I'm thinking Jabeur takes this.

Right after that match: Giorgi vs. Anisimova, can't decide who I want to win! :) Which means low-stress viewing. (y)

Jabeur v/s Sevastova is like a junkballer's dream, what a match-up that is! Have they played each other before? I agree with you, taking Jabeur.

Giorgi v/s Anisimova is pretty much ball basher v/s ball basher. No idea about that one, haha.

Then Emma beat Leylah, therefore:

Emma > Leyla

I mean, that's how it works, right? :)
I was kinda trolling lol

a more pertinent point is that Fernandez showcased an ability to beat a wide variety of opponents, due in no small part to her experience actually playing on the WTA tour. She took her knocks from 2019-21, Emma by comparison has literally played 5 senior WTA tournaments, two being Slams.

Yes she won the USO but every single tournament she plays until Wimby ‘22 will be her first time there.

I don't know why people say that, she been active for a long time.
On WTA rankings page it says she played 15 tournaments in the last 12 months.
It doesn't matter what you call them, they all pay money and players earn ranking points.
So if she managed to play only 5 main events means she just didn't earn those points, and even then she got wildcards for most of them.

Are you seriously this obtuse?

she played a few ITF futures in 2019/early 2020 then everything got canceled due to COVID. Her first main WTA event was this June.

do you really think that playing a $10k ITF event is the same as the experience of actually completing a season on the Pro tour like Fernandez did?

Hmm, I'm not sure who is obtuse here.
On WTA rankings page it says she played 15 tournaments , 12 or 20 months, points count the same.
So if she didn't have enough points to play WTA tournaments, cannot just blame covid.
Besides, she started playing pro virtually the same time as Fernandez or Swiatek (btw, she played Swiatek @ W2018 Juniors)
She even managed to beat P. Badosa in mid 2019.
All I am saying she been around for much longer than 5 tournaments, and out of these 5 she got 3 wildcards.

Mugu vs. Tomljanovic getting started. Should be a relatively easy one for Mugu, but sometimes she has nervy lapses.

Sevastova starts by getting broken, not too promising.

But yeah. SST can't hit winners, and she's making a lot more errors than her opponent it feels like.

RIP that one.

idk about weight gain. She did look slower and that could be due to her extended holiday after USO. I think she was basically just not match-ready. The outcome was predictable because the gap between USO and IW was long and she took a well deserved break after USO. This loss is good to bring her back to reality. She will feel hungry again for the next tournament now.
She didn't have skinny legs anymore, that's all.
Weight gain or not, definetly out of shape.
And too casual about the result.

Anisimova either had breast reduction surgery or she is wearing the world's best sports bra. Whatever the trick is, she looks trim and fit.

It was her birthday today + won Chicago last week. so I had a feeling her mind might not be on the match
Might be right. Didn't realize her bday was today. I know it's a few days before mine though.

At least Karolina is doing her job though. Close first set but she finds a break to take the first. Don't wanna say she could be the favorite, but she can hits big enough where she can still produce winners on this surface.

Karolina's should have this in the bag. Down 0-40 serving at 5-1 though. :-D

Krejcikova and the Gauff matches coming up for me. I've got under 18.5 in the first and under 20.5 in the 2nd.

If we have no problem cutting Andreescu slack during her comeback, we should
do the same for Raducanu. They're both cut from the same cloth. (that was brilliant, if I may say). :)
Wow, I just read a Raducanu interview now and guess how she ended it?
"I mean, I'm 18 years old. I need to cut myself some slack." :)

Let's go Krejcikova! Breaks to start. Did miss like 3 backhands long in that game though. Helped out by 2 doubles and some unforced errors by Diyas though.

Krejcikova a little shaky on the backhand so far, but it's not enough to give Diyas any foothold in this match. Already up a double break 3-0.

I don't even know what's going on in this match. Gives up a 3-0 lead, then breaks again for 4-3. Hopefully she continues the trend of 3 game runs. Just hold here and break again please.

Can't return 90 mph 2nd serves to forehand... Set should have been over 20 minutes ago.

Gauff taking care of business at least.

I got a little greedy and took under 18.5 games instead of 19.5 Hope that doesn't come back to bite me. 6-4 first set, so Krejcikova needs to win this set 6-2 or it's RIP.

Can't believe she threw away two breaks like that. Granted Diyas came out hitting a little better, but was just brainless stuff from Krejcikova.
