I know, almost no one watches doubles here. :D Nothing else to watch, though.

The #2 seed Dabrowski/Routliffe lost 1st set to Muhammad/Parks. Lots of body-aiming smashes and finishing volley poaches from the Muhammad/Parks pair. They're overpowering the #2 seeds in many exchanges. Leading the #2 by a break at 4-2 in 2nd set.

Thanks bud. Just came back from the gym. You reminded me to turn it on. (y)

Experience (err, a little bit of luck and momentum switch?) prevailed. The #2 seed won in 3rd set match tiebreak. 6-7,6-4,10-4.

Final is at 12:30 Eastern tomorrow, awfully random time.

Edit: That’s FlashScore, maybe not correct.

Last American and all, but I’m never one for Manimal. She’s super mean. I worked at a tournament where she played a few years ago, and the way she treated the ball people, her screaming at her box, and the atm boy toy was way, way over the top.
I used to agree 100%, but this post retirement announcement Collins seems a little different. Still intense on court, but it seems like a more positive and less nervous intensity. Certainly seems to be helping her game.

And maybe she is more relaxed off the court as well? I definitely know what you mean about the boy toys. There was one guy (used to wear purple and pink shirts) that I'm 99% certain was one of those submissive dudes that likes to be completely controlled by a woman (not that there's anything wrong with that).

DC occasionally shows a mean streak, but she's a nice, accomplished person off the court. UVA grad and has a Masters' degree. How many pros have one of those? Short career in tennis and then moving on.
Not to split hairs, but being well educated doesn't necessarily make someone nice.

I'm absolutely certain you weren't born yet or were a baby in 1988. Imagine watching women's RG final then.
Um, what is the argument you are attempting to make here? That match was 6-0, 6-0 (peak Graf simply destroying someone). The match we saw yesterday was 6-4, 0-6, 7-6. How can you compare the two?

Or, to make it even simpler for you, people here were commenting on the ridiculous 0-6 set from the eventual match winner, in which she won 5 total points.

Collins could very well take this title out, surely needs to reevaluate retiring at the end of the year. A win in the final would push her to #22 in the world and #7 in the race.
No, that's the whole thing. She is finally playing her best tennis because she is finally somewhat relaxed. She has said "enough" of the grind, I just want one last year to enjoy it and take it all in... and low and behold, it has helped her game tremendously.

@pcplum I must say it looks like @robyrolfo won that debate. He provided plethora of facts-based arguments to refute each and every one of your excellent 5 points. We should all learn from @robyrolfo on how to win an argument. ;)
Um yeah, no. Do you really think I should bother responding to some wild mischaracterizations of my actual arguments? Say something serious, and I will say something serious back.

Saw it on Facebook but apparently after her match Collins opened up about her decision to retire and revealed that “she’s living with a chronic inflammatory disease that is affecting her ability to get pregnant and it’s a deeply personal situation she’s going through right now”. Said she loves competing and the sport but this is so much bigger than playing tennis.

Mad respect to her.

I know among other things, she has Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is caused by a messed up immune system. I know. I have a subset of it as my IS is messed up completely from chemo treatment. RA is super hard on a tennis body, can’t imagine how hard it’s be for a world class player like her. And since it’s IS related, I can imagine it’s also affecting the reproductive system. Western medicine can control some symptoms, but Eastern meds and acupuncture are actually better treatments. I’m sure she knows of all that.

That's the same condition Wozniacki suffers from. Apparently she receives an injection every 2 weeks and had to significantly reduce her training intensity and volume.

Danimal Collins is too good to only have 2 WTA titles (1x 250, 1x 500). If she's to retire this year, I hope she goes out with a few 1000 HC titles to bolster her stats. This match is not over, but already this run is the 2nd best after her AO final run.

hope Elena wins, not that Collins is not already pleasant enough as a person already but she also got paved a path to the final

I will always be a sucker for an older player sneaking in the biggest win of their career close to retirement.
I remember in 1993, Mikael Pernfors came back from injury and randomly won the Canadian Masters - for only his third career title. Sort of similar to this. He had previously won smaller tournaments in LA and Scottsdale in 1988.

And he too had randomly reached a slam final...

However, I'm getting flashbacks to 32-year-old Pennetta in 2014 - her career seemingly over, 4 years removed from her last title - coming out of nowhere to win Indian Wells. We know how that ended, hoping Danielle can do the same...

Disappointed in Rybakina, it can be hard being her fan. Her finals record is abysmal.
Congrats Collins, but I'll never root for you unless you're playing Wozniacki.
