Alcaraz is everything.

That's what we thought about Stepanek, but see how far he went ;)

Carlos won't have any problems with the ladies ;)

I don't think he's beyond salvation.

Sure the extra-big mouth is a bit weird, but stuff like the hair, acne, eyebrows... can easily be dealt with with proper stylism/cosmetic care.

If I were a Nike marketing exec I'd strongly consider hiring him a stylist xD

We have been there too many times lately. Let's wait and see. He does have massive potential, that much is undeniable. So does Zverev.

Zverev has great potential but not as much as Alcaraz imo. For one thing, tall guys have done well in this sport but none really dominated, and they are more susceptible to injuries.

He has the potential, some good wins this year even won a title. Very promising, the signs are there but no I am not on the wagon yet. Haven't we seen this hype very recently with FAA, Shapovalov, Sinner and just about any 18 year old who has some small success. Not saying he will not be great, win slams and all that but he could just as well win zero slams or twenty.

Sure but that didn't stop TTW from giving him a hypothetical multiple slams and he has only been in one slam final so far. I remember somebody arguing with me in absolute earnest that Zverev had more talent than Nadal. If that is the case, what stops someone so talented from winning at least a couple of slams?

So...I like Alcaraz but it's still early days. And the serve could definitely be better though it's not bad by any means.

Zverev is not on Nadal's level as far as talent. I can't believe someone said that. Lol. He has potential to win 2-5 Slams I think.

Yea he's still young so we have to wait and see, but the serve can be improved.

Hm I always think of Novak as looking a little dopey as a younger guy, but seeing this I can understand how he pulled Jelena (the money probably helped)
This is the only time I've ever found Djoker even the slightest bit attractive. He's really cute here and could pull whoever he wanted, even without the money.

This is probably the 50th time I've been frustrated with the Tennis Channel in the last few years. I considered making a vent thread here but decided to save you guys the annoyance. I'll just vent in this one comment.

They showed a set and a half of alcaraz v sinner only to switch to the ****ing billie jean garbage. Probably just done with watching tennis now, as I have been with the nba. They don't care about my time invested in a match as a customer, and want me to pay more for proper coverage? No thanks. I'm out. Better to play tennis than waste my time watching anyway.

Idk man, when she first got a lot of screen time at Slams (think 2011-12) I think she was pretty stunning. Ones like AO ‘12/USO ‘11 below I remember thinking she was an actress/model or something.

Peak Kim Sears puts her out to pasture, in all honesty.

Joined the Alcaraz train last year during lockdown, while I was reading the "nobody escapes from Alcaraz" thread. I watched a few of his matches on clay and enjoyed his style of play.
He definitely has what it takes to win a slam in the future. I'm enjoying his progress.

The choke today was also everything, LOL! From 0-5 to 7-5 in the twinkling of an eye. With something like 20 points to 2 in the last 5 games of the match. The kind of things you only see every 2 Earthquakes. LMAO

More seriously, I still think it's too soon to predict his future career. We'll know more next year. If he wins a Masters or makes a slam final next year, I will say without a doubt that he'll win slams in the future. If he constantly loses against Medvedev-Zverev and/or players on fire (like HG today) and can't go further than QF in big tournaments, we'll have to reconsider it.

Tennis is a difficult sport, there are just so many factors to consider. Every aspects of the game is important, including mental and physical endurance. Hostile crowd is one of those factors and he didn't handle it well today. That might be problematic if he must face a french player in Roland or an american in US, for instance.

As other posters pointed out, his serve is also a huge weakness. Aesthetically it looks like Schwartmnan's serve. Today it's very difficult (nay impossible) to win slams if you have a weak serve, and I don't consider Nadal's or Djokovic's serve weak at all. You have to battle/earn every single points on your serve, it's exhausting. Compared to Medvedev or Zverev's serve this weakness might be too important. And yes, he also has a very physical game. In US he played this incredible match against Tsitsipas but ran out of gas afterwards. His following match (against Gojowckyk) was not good at all and the QF was too much. In Vienna he beats Berrettini in a very long, physical match and you can could see how tired he was 1 day later. For now His serve looks like Schwartman's and his backhand like Carreno-Busta's (both are incredible players but I sure hope Alcaraz will do better). He plays like a top-20 and I think he could be top-10/top-8 next year but still unsure it'll get higher.

It was andyBHgenius, I think. When I asked him, he felt too 'busy' to have to explain it to someone like me who was apparently too dumb to see something so evident.

Alcaraz looks ugly?

My personal standards evaluate this guy to be one of the most handsome of the atp.
Taste can't be disputed, but until he gets a new haircut, new teeth and clears up his skin, he isn't even top 100 in looks on the ATP. But Fed was pretty dismal looking at age 18, yet he cleaned up very well once professional handlers and Vogue got to him. Same will happen with Carlos, but handsome right now? Not seeing it.

No, he’s a clear level of potential above the others mentioned, though Sinner is the best of those three. Just because someone is hyped doesn’t mean it’s the same level. You need to be able to analyse personality as well as strengths and weaknesses to see how he will develop. Personality and ability to improve are the two biggest factors. He will many slams, come back and tell me I’m right in a few years. No way in hell he wins no slams, that’s crazy talk.

What makes you so sure? Go back ten years and people thought the same of Dimitrov. Anyway Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Rublev and even Ruud will be around for many years he will have to beat them for slams and we have Auger-Aliassime, still only 21. Alcaraz will probably be a contender but lot’s of good players to overcome.

Don't forget 21 slams or whatever for Zed/FAA. The two, Dimi, Tsitsi were all expected to win slams and Med was the only one TT wasn't super hot on. And he won, so what do we know.
