it appears to look like roddicks "world record" serve is going to be toppled soon!

Ferrer IS ONLY 5'9" AND 160lbs also!!!

Ferrer and Hernandez both clocked above 145? Something is seriously wrong there. Had Ferrer ever previously in his career even hit above 135? 140?

lmao!

Let's hope that they aren't drug testing at this years tournament, for both Ferrer and Hernandez's sake ;)

there's got to be something wrong with those stats. ferrer just isn't capable of serving 151 mph and oscar hernandez cant hit 146. i'm having a very hard time believing that those stats are real and that there wasn't some sort of typo or malfunction.

Who at the end decides if it is malfunction of the reading or not? Or do they have to call the malfunction right-away?

Wow! That's big from Ferrer. I knew his serve wasn't bad but that's huge. But I'm surprised about Oscar Henerdez hitting 146. I saw him play Nadal and he didn't look like he could hit a serve over 125 MPH

typical American response...............

people can believe that Roddick can hit 155 mph but cannot believe David ferrer's 151.5mph serve and automatically make up excuses like there is a malfunction with the speed gun!?

Typical dumbass response. First of all how do you know these are americans on these boards? Secondly Roddick consistently hits high 130s and 140s, where as these two guys rarely go over 125 during a match.

Indeed. Because he can't hit 150.
I believe he never hit ANYTHING above 140, heck, perhaps 135, and now, all of a sudden, adds 10 mph to his serve? and only ONCE in a match?

And Guccione and Dent have hit 150s before. Karlovic was close with 149, but both of them have HUGE serves, while Ferrer doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas Johansson, or Ivan Ljubicic or Almagro hits a 150... but watching Ferrer hitting a 150 is like seeing Nalbandian hitting a 150.

And I'm not American.

You say typical American resonse but your sig has Obama for 2008 president?!

You think it isn't alittle weild that Ferrer all of a suddent can hit 150 MPH serve. Like I said and ohter posters have said he has a good serve but 150?! Get real something is wrong there

Andres

G.O.A.T.
The serve stats for the match:

Fastest serve:

Deuce court:
Wide: 180 kmh
Body: 244 kmh !!!
T: 193 kmh

Adv court:
Wide: 185 kmh
Body: 184 kmh
T: 181 kmh

So, he didn't reach 125 mph on ANY serve, and all of a sudden clocks 25 mph MORE!!?? And he had only 1 ace to the body serve... and was it the 244 kmh?

Ferrer can't add 25 mph to a single serve all of a sudden, adlis. It was malfunctioning. Readed the wrong speed.

Andres

G.O.A.T.
And the average speed for that body serve to the deuce court was 181 kmh ... so, we have to assume he felt like hitting one serve 60! kmh faster?

maybe he was just really pissed and decided to smack the sh|t out of the ball and just happened to hit it dead center perfectly. I'd say it was unlikely, but possible.

How is this possible ?? He is a little guy like 5 foot 10 inches tall, maybe not even that. Can little guys serve big like this ? is this possible ?

ben becker serves in the low 140's so it is possible.

He does have a massive forehand that he usually chooses to just tap, so it's possible he can serve big too.

why doesnt someone just post the link to the table, and then it will be pretty clear to see

Do you reqire DNA and fingerprint evidence also?

Remember these facts

wafer thin Andy murray hit a 145mph bomb at the SAP open this year.

A 17 year old donald young hit a 135mph serve at the usopen last year

Olivier Rochus at 5ft5 hit a 135.5mph serve

You do not need to be called andy roddick to serve rockets!

Excellent technique plays a huge role in velocity both on the serve and ground strokes. I haven't seen David Ferrer play much, but I can only assume that his technique is a contributing factor for the huge serve. But good for him though ......

Olivier Rochus uses a Prince Triple threat graphite that is extended to 28.5 inches so you have to give him 1.5 inches to his height. so he would be 5'6.5" still pretty good.;) One thing i do want to add though is for all you Juniors that is not above 5'11". Please don't give up on developing a Big serve, it is absolutely essential in today's game. Guys like Rochus is a good example that little guys can serve big although not as consistantly big as Roddick and such. But the whole objective is to win 1 or 2 easy points by using a very offensive serve per service game. If you do that you will win 80% of your service games.

andreas is right! we had this debate more then once... something isn't right with radar guns in this days (or with those in the past)!
just look some old matches from the 90's ... you will see that pete, goran, richard, mark had far better (and faster) serves than most pros today.
you don't need a radar gun, just look how the ball travels.
and now everybody, even those who where playing in the 90's now serving 20-30 km/h faster... (plese don't bring up the technology thing -rackets/strings) and the ball still looks same fast and has the same impact as in the 90's.

i mean look at the DC matches... almost everyone clock's 228 km/h serves.
to me a good old 201 km/h serve look's the same as '07 220 km/h serves.

LOL! It's Andrés, by the way :D

And I believe modern guns are more accurate than 90s guns. Modern guns clock speed at the contact point, while 90s guns didn't.

One other thing to remember is that the courts were a lot faster in those days. Now, a ball loses 50% of its speed after it hits the court. In the past, it would only lose maybe 30%, So, the serve would look a lot faster then compared to now.

Not quite, because no gun clocks the speed when it bounces. It's always between the racquet and the net ;)

Info for you guys. Rusedski sat along with zimonjic and davis cup coach petrovic when Bozoljac, low ranked serb shot a world record serve a while ago, like beg of 06. When they checked the clock it was not there and rusedski was anoyed and all of us in serbia dissapointed. Ill try and dig up the video somewhere, I dont know miles but kph and it was 2 kph faster than rods but did not stand due to lack of the figure on the shot clock .. Just wrote this so you can know, most of the guys who were there were dissapointed.

Yeah I watch him train here. He can kill linespeople. Its just that when you have twohanded backand and forhand !!! as Fabrice Santoro, the wizard, does, you can not really be a perfect defensive player which is a must do in tennis today. Lets face it, with 194 and his power , he needs to voley and forhand good to be a major threat which is not that hard but how can you do that when you practice everything with two hands. Pitty.
