Any Basketball fans?

I am in a Fantasy Basketball league with a twist. It is a retro league, currently in the 1995-1996 season. Each team has a General Manager (GM) that is responsible for running the team. Trades, drafting, putting in and managing team lineups are all responsibilities of the GM. Currently, there are two (2) GM openings in this league, but you have to be pretty gung ho to get it. Only big sports fans, preferably people with a good basketball IQ need apply. If you are at all interested in this, feel free to email me and maybe we can talk about this on IM or something. Again, only the serious need apply.

Well the league started in the 1992-1993 season, with all teams having the real-life rosters from that time period. Jordan and Pippen on the Bulls, etc. Since then, a lot has happened, trades, drafting, etc., so the league is now running without much parallel to the NBA in 1995-96. It is a simulation league, and there is a league commissioner that sims games in 5 "day" chunks, 4 days per real human time week. the season is 120 "days" long, with each team playing 82 games in that 120 day season. Playoffs follow the regular season, as well as player retirements, a draft lottery, the draft, a free-agent signing period, etc. Each season lasts about 8-9 weeks in total, and then we move on to the next. We are about 15 games into the 1995-96 season.

Im a HUGE basketball fan but only in the last few years so I wouldn't be a good addition to the league at all...but im just curious, where do you have a league like this?

It's an internet league, so there is a message board attached to it and there is a website for the league itself, where you can check records, team pages, etc.

yea but like more specifically. The only leagues I know about are the normal espn and yahoo type ones.

Ah I see. There are a lot of leagues like this, but they tend to be rather exclusive. If you search the internet, you can find some, but many require message board membership for a certain amount of time before getting a team. The league I am in does not require that, but you have to talk with the commissioner before getting in. I would suggest a google search if you want to get more info about leagues like this.

I'm a big basketball fan but I'm only savvy with the stats starting from around the year 2000. I know of the great dynasties and players of the past but not enough to compete.

Knowledge of pre-2000 players and stats isn't a huge part of this puzzle. There are letter grade ratings in 6 categories for each player, so it gives you an idea of what each player can do. The biggest thing is a knowledge of Basketball strategy. I think that is above all else.

Just some food for thought.

I'm a huge basketball fan and know a lot of the history. I would do it, but how does this work. If its day to day updates, then i might not have the time. If i could update rosters every weekend for the whole week then that would be splendid.

Well it really depends. You only have to change your rosters if you trade or have an important player injured, so that can be rare. There are 4 sims per week, so most guys are at least active during the 4 sim days, usually Sun-Wed. Feel free to email me if you want more information.
