Nadal days in the top 10 numbered

Blah, its something that people would stupidly say about Roddick if he had lost to Tsonga...

and I want to get a rise out of people.

Well it doesn't say alot when he gets to the semi's after playing no-one of importance, and then gets spanked by a nobody of any importance..

I think if Rafa just played tennis he would be fine.. But this is the first time that I have seen the guy up close with his quirks.. (people have talked about it, but I have never seen it as we usually only get highlights here in Japan of matches.. But now that I have been able to watch the AO, I have been watching him from the time he leave the locker room till the time he finishes his match. And the guy is strange)

The way he always sucks on something before the match, the way he sets his bottles up. The way he runs to the center of the court for the coin toss ect ect.. Everything he does is pre-recorded, and I think that it is showing in his tennis.. He is unable to change with the match, and so it shows in the way he thinks out there.. Too superstitious for my liking.. I think the reason he has been so fortunate (especially on clay) is because he annoyes and wears his opponents down.. I think now people have woken up to him and just play their own game and it is starting to show..

Nadal wins with alot of consistency, his topspin, and his ability to track down every ball. He should stay in the top 10 for a while.

I am at times surprised at his run at the number 2 position. Although, apart from Federer, he is the only other person to win a slam, and frequent Masters Series (clay courts); I suppose that factors into his ranking points.

Nadal will stay #2 for one simple reason, which can be summed up in 4 little letters: c l a y.

Nadal actually made it the farthest he ever has in a hard-court slam, so I hardly see why his days are numbered.

Just because Tsonga played UNBELEIVABLE tennis does not mean that Nadal is fading.

How about making it to the Wimbledon final?

he's won hard court masters series as recently as last year and he made his best HC Slam results this week. why is that a bad sign?

Not a chance. Instead, Nadal will become number one very soon. His topspins are so lethal that noone has a chance of beating him on clay. Nadal is becoming a great hard court player and has the chops to challenge Federer for number 1.

Wimbledon was in June. He hasn't done much since then. He looked healthy in the AO compared to how he was towards the second half of 2007. He is a favourite for the French, but can he make it to another Wimbledon final?

11 posts on this thread and 0 (maybe i missed 1 :)) show any decent reasoning. tsonga will join rafa in the top 10, where he belongs. he moves like federer but more explosively. his serve is the heaviest in the game and his groundies are up there too. rafa is a particularly good match up for him (familiar from the juniors and a high ball for him to hit down with his flat groundies), but tsonga had the toughest road to the semis also. sit back and enjoy the next contender for #1.

Add Tsonga to the increasingly growing group of guys that will always own Nadal if they are playing their best.

Outside of clay, that is. Come the clay season, all the dummies here will start threads like "Is Nadal the GOAT?" "Is Nadal better than Sampras/Agassi?" Etc.

God I am sick of listening to people like you. The Nadal fanatics are bad enough, without the Nadal haters making total asses of themselves. Nadal's days are numbered? Are you kidding me? He will OWN the clay court season, and he has made the final at wimbledon twice.

You must have the intelligence of a pea. My post was in no way an attack on Nadal. In fact, I even said that all the people that own him on hard court would get owned by him on clay. I didn't say it outright, but if you knew how to read you would have gotten it. Try again.

Certainly, outside clay, Nadal is owned. Should one create a list: Nalbandian, Blake, Djokovic, Tsonga. Any others?

lets see if Nadal can win Indian Wells or Miami in March. Otherwise Nadal better wish that all courts are clay.

I don't think Nadal's days in top 10 are numbered, but I am quite sure that Roddick's days in top 10 are.

Someone is jumping on the bandwagon a bit early, I'd say. Let me guess, in 06' you said baggy had the biggest forehand in the game.

This thread is really stupid, Nadal might have lost that match earlier today, but not all human players can put up those types of numbers against that boy. Hard courts isn't his best surface, but he competes with what he has. What some people are forgetting is the terror he is on clay courts.

It's just ONE match. You can't tell anything this early. I'm not a big Rafa supporter, but it's true. I think he'll win the FO, but probably not get back to the Wimbledon final.

I'm not buying it, and I'm not even a Nadal fan.

Tsonga was a particularly bad matchup for him. And, Tsonga was playing out of his freakin mind. It's just one of those days when Nadal has to say "too good", which he did.

Nadal is still a great player, just like Henin is still a great player after getting absolutely killed by Sharapova.

I'd wait a while before I write him off.

Not a snowball chance in H E Double Hockey Sticks, he's a Wimby finalist this year. I'm willing to bet on that.

I'm also willing to bet that he isn't. I'm still amazed that he got there there last year and the year before.

Nadal still got to the semis of the AO so I see no signs yet of dropping out of the top 10. Lets see if his body can hold up. If it does then I don't see him dropping anything lower than 4 by the end of the year. And don't forget how many points he will get (if healthy) during the clay season.

Players that win by grinding out matches like Hewitt, Chang, and Nadal have a tendency to burn out at an early age because their bodies just can't take it much longer, and Nadal's knees are about to give out any day now. I'm not sure how much longer he can keep up this level.

*cough*

that was hilarious. for a minute, i thought you were serious.

Nadal's game is not meant for HC. so what does that say about him? he's way better than anyone is giving him credit for. he wins on clay like he does for a reason; he's a great tennis player. he may not be a magician like federer or a ball striker like tsonga, but he can run his ass off the face of the earth. and then run back on it.

but this is stupid, "nadal's days are numbered b/c he got his best HC result ever!" "ZOMG no more Wimbledon Final for him!"

no. wrong. he's one of the best grass players. otherwise he wouldnt have been able to challenge federer. granted, it was just one of those days where fed was'nt up to snuff. but still, it was wimbledon. he has been off before and straight setted (sp?) people, so we know Nadal is at least good on Grass, if we can't say Great.

He had trouble with his knees for most of last year's hardcourt season. Did you see that he still has those knee bands on during the AO? I'm sure that contributed to Nalbandian spanking him twice in two Master's events at the end of last year.

Hey that is a smart thing he is doing. I don't think his knees are that bad but he is making sure they don't become bad.

That hardcourt was EXACTLY what Nadal needed. A super slow surface, intense heat, and decent bounces. Nadal has shown that he can deal with low bouncing balls as long as the surface isn't too bad. The odds were all stacked in Nadal's favor, and he got blown off the court.

anyone thinking nadal is a top 5 favorite at wimbledon better expect an "upset" in a few months. i was talking about tsonga's serve and groundies, if you disagree you are blind and/or haven't seen him play. he has been seriously injured for 2 years, it is no surprise to anyone knowledgable that tsonga is playing top 10 (top 4 at the moment) tennis.

Tisparevic played out of his mind and Federer was still able to win, even if its a 5 setter. Tsonga played out of his mind and Nadal gets blown off. The difference is the serve. Nadal should develop his. It's hardly a weapon despite having the lefty spins.

Wrong. The decent bounces help out the flat hitters along with the footwork. Nadal relies on his opponents not being on fire and being able to tire them out. The night time also didn't help Nadal as the bounces are lower at that time.

Tsonga is not the first player to beat Nadal on hard courts ...Blake beat Nadal in 2006 (not sure) maybe but he is still n°2 now ;) Youznhy did it many times ...
I will take this loss as a good warning...if I were Nadal...
The season has just started...to lose a match does not mean to lose ranking (n° 2) VAMOS!!
