Asics Gel Resolution or Nike Vapor V

I've found two shoes that I'm very interested in getting.
I would to know which shoe you believe is better and why, also considering the fact that durability is not an issue.

My Gel Res are on order. Back in stock 7/9 according to TW. I am digging the Barricade V's though. Very solid & supportive with great traction. The Navy/Yellow combo is too cool.

IMO, the Gel Resolutions are the best shoe in the market-they are light, low to the ground, and have incredible support. Grab them while you can!

Durability is reasonable for me, I've had my Resolutions for a little over two months now. Tread wear was visible within 2 weeks from the start, but they're holding up well for me.

While I have not been able to play as much as I would like, my Gel Resolutions have lasted me a good 6 months. They may not be the most durable tennis shoes on the market, but durability is not an issue. I have used and abused my share of durability guarantees, and the Gel Resolutions hold up as well as some of those shoes.

The best part about these shoes is how well rounded they are. Amazing cushioning and comfort, really lightweight, great for stop-start movements and changing directions, decent durability ( and more importantly they retain comfort despite the soles being on their last legs),and they are some of the most attractive shoes I have ever worn. I hope Asics make these shoes forever.

Personally, I'm getting as good durability out of a pair of Asics Gel Resolutions as I did out of a pair of Nike BF2s.

If anything, the soles on the Asics seem to be a little more durable than the BF2s in my case. Neither is what I'd consider a high-durability shoe.

I checked the Gel Resolutions at a local shop. I found the arch support lacking (if not missing completely). The inside (of the shoe) seems flat to me. Thats the only thing stopping from buying them.

I have been getting heel pain due to plantar fasciitis, and think I need shoes with higher arch support.

Arch support is the key. I had plantar fascitis and ended up getting orthodics. It resolved my plantar fascitis in less than a week and I have never had the problem again. I take the insoles that come with my tennis shoes out and put in the orthodic. I have done this with New Balance, Prince, and Reebok shoes.

I use Dr. Scholl's insoles and heel supports. Not as good as custom orthodisc, but better than nothing.

Who (what kind of doctor) do you go to get orthodics?? Pardon my ignorance if this is an incorrect question?

You go to a podiatrist. I went to the Podiatrist 2 weeks ago and he advised me to get SuperFeet insole replacement. He said there hasn't been conclusive evidence that custom orthotics are better than prefabricated ones. The superfeet are working for me so far. I don't have sore feet or ankles much anymore after I play. I have green btw, probably gonna try orange one of these days.

Agreed but not as cushioned a ride as the gel...Love the gels.

Get some Superfeet insoles...I use the orange, but if you have a medium to high arch get the green. The heel cup is deeper and the arch is very supportive in the green. I have wide flat feet so the green arch bothers me more.

If you have low arches then go with the blues.

For Arch support...
1) green - hightest most suppportive - high-medium arch
2) orange - next highest for medium to medium-low arch
3) blue - low arch


For cushion... get tricky

1) orange version #3 - proabally the most cushioned out of the three versions, but they changes the foam. The foam footbed is not as firm as the green or older orange versions #1 & 2. The footpad for the ball of the foot has only a floppy shock aborption pad instead of the foam+shock pad. Heel cup is not as supportive as the earlier versions.

2) orange version #2 - kidney shape pad over a foam similar to the green but with better abosption to shock. Seems thicker.... Has a bubble supporting the midfoot

3) orange version #1 - same as version #2 but without the bubble


For support...
1) the green

2) orange version #1 & #2


Hope this help.... For me, orange version #1 #2 ...


If you like the green ....stay with them.. My partner uses the green and tried the orange and hated them...Don't know which version she used though.

Excellent overview of the superfeet - I agree completely.

I have a little higher arch than I thought and have found that the Green work best for me. They have all but eliminated the plantars, and I now use them in all my tennis shoes.

Another thing to add is that there are design differences in the bottoms of the superfeet (the part that meets the shoe) - that at least for me, result in more or less squeaking. I have solved all squeaking problems by using baby powder as was suggested on the superfeet site.

Here are the differences:

Orange - hard plastic bottom that rests on the edges
Blue - hard plastic bottom that rests on the edges (but less pronounced)
Green - hard plastic bottom with foam inserts that rest on the entire surface area

It's as if the entire surface area is set on the green, but the orange and blue only meet on the edges - resulting in less inherent squeaking for the green - at least for me. Again, baby powder gets rid of all of it any model.

I Totally agree with your comments. Another important item is the fit. The heel of the foot must fit WITHIN the heel cup and not hang over the edge(while standing). This may bump you up to a larger size which could be larger than your shoe size. Most retailers don't know that and just fit you by your shoe size.

Good point! I have a long arch and shorter toes. So even though I'm a size 9, which is size D superfeet, REI fitted me with a size E. So anyone who is shopping superfeet, make sure you get fitted!

Thanks for your help. Got the Gel Resolution and the Green Superfeet. Got a sweet deal on Gel Resolution and Barricade 4, so bought both ;)

Find the Barricades have more ankle support, but the Resolution add an extra step to speed cos of lower weight.

Fast-forward several months... my shoes are disappearing... crumbling away beneath me... please send more.... :(

The Asics Gel Resolution are amazing, it feels as though you're walking on air with them, very light and comfy. I'm on my 3rd pair already.
