^there is no exact spec to the above plain and simple. there is a range. I have a dozen of the one above and they vary.

PT... i guess i could search this, but since you know the racquet well, coming from you may be the best...

could you give a specs average for the PT 630 or specs from either side of the spectrum (whatever that spectrum is or covers...?) or maybe what was advertised when the 630 was new?

thanks :)

Relax bro, the dude just ask a question, if you didnt like it you didnt have to respond, it wasnt like the question was directed towards you bro, i mean why you in the racquet threads getting worked up about people asking questions about racquets?

First of all, don't call me a "bro"! I ain't a bro to anybody!
Second, don't tell me what to do. If I want to relax, then I'll do it on my own. If I want to get "worked up", then it's none of your biz!
Third, stupid questions need to be beaten down! Do a search! same questions get asked a zillion time on this board.

"Q. I've been told that after a few years of regular use, a tennis racquet loses its power and feel, and should be replaced. Is this true, or is it a myth perpetrated by the racquet manufacturers?

A. The racquet can start to feel “dead” depending on string tension and how much you play and restring. With the new materials, it shouldn't be too often, but I am not a racquet science person. Try Nate Ferguson at Priority 1. He was Pete Sampras’ personal racquet technician, and now Tim Henman, Federer, Lleyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick, among others, are his clients."

What do you think guys about this stuff?

Funny how tough people try to act on boards, I've yet to meet someone in real life to have the courage or better yet the lack of respect to talk to me the way people talk to each other on boards, i mean its easy to pretend to be tough when you know your not gonna get punched in the face.

Agree about personality change online, but R's original post that triggered the "relax dude" bit wasn't particularly tense. Man just gave his POV, which was that we gearheads should get less OCD and just go play. You may agree or disagree (it IS a racquet forum), but not that radical a POV. Definitely didn't require some sanctimonious cooler-then-thou teenspeak response.

Who freaking cares! It's not like you are making a living playing tennis. I play with PT280 made in the 80's or 90's (am i right or wrong on this? :)) and I don't feel jack about racquet fatigue.

Some of them are deeply scr aped at the head!

And yes, I take my tennis seriously, compete toughly, and at the same time, having loads of fun. I'm no gear junkie! Just go out there and hit! jeez!

Backhand,
You dont find this post rude? So I guess if you asked me a question in person and this was my response we would be ok? I find it hard to believe that you think that this comment was not "particularly tense" And some how i think im "cooler than thou teenspeak" because i find this comment rude and unnesseary, i mean is respect a "teen thing"?
So if rosch spoke to your wife or mother in that fashion and I spoke up and said what i said here, would you still insult me the way you just did?

I got my PT280 a few years ago and find myself playing equally as much as my C10 Pro. I grew up playing with a Head Elektra Pro; so it was easy to adapt to the PT280.

Made in and Designed in Austria differences ? Designed in Austria are much worse than made in Austria?

Thanks,

sharpe, they are all nice, they vary slightly in terms of weight stiffness SW balance etc....

you asked about caps, you can use iprestige MP, LM, FXP MG caps. The only one that is hard to find are original CAPS they weigh the most, and feel more solid IMO,

Thanks mate! Which racket 'version' is less stiff, lighter, SW lighter and more headlight? It's very hard to find a PT280/630 in Europe :(

ESP#1, IMO you're waaay too sensitive to other's language and oddly insensitive to the impact of your own. To answer your question, no I do not find the use of terms like "freaking" or "jeez" in R's initial post to be rude. There's a difference between rude and energetic. No, I would not mind if he said this to me in person. Obviously you would.

My own comment, like R's response to you, was more aggressive than R's original. Were they rude? R's seemed to me to be angry. Different than rude, go look it up. My message pushed rude envelope. But IMO you started the whole chain with your language, which I found to be passive aggressive and condescending. Have a feeling he did too. Recall how you feel when you are vigorously making a point and someone says "calm down." The subtext is that the speaker's argument is irrelevant because they're out of control, child-like. That was the take away of your first post about this.

My take away from this post to me is that you've escalated from "rude" to "insult;" apparently you don't like to be criticized.

From a lingusitic perspective, now you're deliberately writing with standard adult usages, probably to show you can. But your previous message didn't. What I called "teenspeak" is appropriated urban Black language that white kids use to signal membership and generational coolness. If you're over college age and still talking like that, IMO you're trying too hard, but that's a judgement call, and I don't know how old you are.

Would I talk to you like that in person? Depending on the setting (say a bar or casual dinner) and the topic (sports) definitely. "teenspeak" for sure, "condescending" probably, "cooler-than-thou" probably not because it was redundant. Although I'd frame the whole deal as a question, as in: "Do you realize how condescending your teenspeak sounds?" Around your mother or in church, no. But we're not around your mother or in church here, are we? Truth is, this is one of the tamer sports forums on the web. Go visit Teton Gravity Research and find out what it's like to really argue online, then get back to me...or better yet, let's get back to racquets.

mine in my avatar, the original PT630 with made in austria above the grip, even these vary slightly as well but in general they are lighter, SW lighter with more HL and less stiff.

PT 630,
What do you think of the i prestige 98? How do you think it compares to the PT 630?

I think its an amazing racquet, not as buttery as my PT 280 but has a bit more pop. Wondered if you felt the same

pt630 has a higher sw and less power. the i.prestige has a crisp feel to it, and is probably one of the stiffest prestiges.

I'm not PT630 but I can chime in. The iPrestige MP to me was the frame that was the stiffest but also the one of the most solid frames; I used it for a season. For me it's preference, I can either use the iPrestige or PT630 but I prefer the flex of the PT630. I did feel it had more pop due to the stiffness but it's not by much. Looking back, if I had known about using Isospeed as a cross I may have stuck with the iPrestige MP. I used my iPrestige MP with VS16 at 50 lbs; if I had an iPrestige now I'd probably go with VS17/Isospeed17 at 50/55.

Thanks Alpine, I agree, I also own a MG prestige that i thought would play similar to these 2 frames but unfortunately i does not. The MG seems to have a very low sw, it feels like its missing that hefty feel i need to plow through the ball, Ive been thinking of adding a leather grip and changing the grommets to a set of tk 57 grommets i have, let me know what you think, Id appreciate it

Thanks Jay, I also prefer the buttery feel of the PT 280, I was curious if you could tell me a bit more about the Isospeed you use. I was recommended maxim touch by someone so I strung my pt's with it on the crosses and i hated it,(cyberflash mains) thats why i pulled the i prestige out the bag. I'm currently using cyberflash mains and psgd crosses on the i prestige, i kinda wanna soften the stringbed but not sacrifice control, any suggestions?
thanks

First off, sorry for the ramble. I also had the MG Prestige MP for a while and the feel of it was reminiscent of the iPrestige MP; I've called the MG as an iPrestige light because it doesn't have that solid feel like the iPrestige. My MG Prestige MP had a Head calfskin grip and the stock CAPs, strung with VS17 mains, Isospeed17 crosses. As for Isospeed in general, it's not as soft or as powerful as the Maxim Touch. I don't think I would put Maxim Touch in a PT either because the PT is already soft as is. I'm pretty much sold on my modified Mojo setup as it's soft and has good ball pocketing...also the strings don't move once they've locked in place! Anyway, Isospeed in the crosses with Cyberflash is something I've never tried because I'm not much of a poly person at all; I typically use natural gut hybrids. Do I think it's worth a shot? If you can get Isospeed on the cheap I say go for it as Isospeed is soft and low-powered but be wary of the whole 'raise it six, watch it fix' deal.

The MG Prestige is a very nice frame, depending on how heavy a SW you want (since you can customize the weight via grommet switching.) If the frame feels too heavy as is, I would replace the grommets with MG Radical MP grommets. That alone should increase your pace on your forehands/serves, while improving feel on slices. If the frame was a bit underpowered, I would lower tension, or consider a hybrid/string change. Other than that, adding a leather grip is pretty personal. Experiment however you like, but keep us updated.

*As for me, I've deCAPped my i.Prestige MP frames and have switched from fully poly to full Syn Gut at a lower tension and I have not looked back. I've gained power/control from experimenting, and am enjoying my wins. Happy tennis.

thanks again alpine but i think you might have misunderstood what i meant, my mg mp feels to light so i wanted to add the heavier caps and the leather grip for extra weight, i thought of adding lead but i really wouldnt know where to put it and its seems like a hassle to get it right, thought that maybe the leather grip and the heavier caps might do the trick,

What strings/tension are you using, and do you hit with heavy topspin or are you somewhere near a flat-hitter?

AlpineCadet

Hall of Fame
Might be strings/tension. Are you using dead strings? Also, iIf you can handle the extra mass and SW, I would experiment with small amounts of lead at 3/9 or maybe some in the throat. A leather grip will add stability, but it will bring up the HL points. It's not rocket science, so have fun with it. ;)

Well, there has to be some similarities judging from the amount of ppl suddenly saying how alike the i. prestige/PT/MG P MP all are. And included in this is someone I know who swears the MG P plays like an easier to swing PT that is particularly excellent on serve. What concerns me though is that low SW issue. For me personally, too low SW can really negatively diminish plow, serve power, and the effectiveness of my 2hbh.

You can either A)use heavier string ie gut poly or larger gauge or B) add some lead. Problem solved and I think that is the whole point the current specs

Dude, I assume you are the guy that's emailed me about 15 times...I told you I have one I'd sell for $125 or so (cheap, btw).

Then you say you won't have any money until you sell another racket...c'mon.

How 'bout this: email me your address and I'll send you an unstrung PT630 - try it for awhile - if you like it pay me what you think it's worth - if not send it back.

Could I make it any easier for you - or do you prefer to keep whining?

And yes, I'm for real...

Maybe... although that isn't backed up by what I was referring to specifically: my negative experiences with a particular low SW frame (TF 320 18x20) that no amount of lead tape or the use of heavier string/larger gauge could help fix the problem satisfactorily.

by the way, I had EXCRUCIATING tennis elbow pain yesterday... I was getting my rqis 1 tour strung, and I wanted to try a demo for one set--the microgel extreme with 67ra flex... wow...after that set my arm was dying and didn't recover until this morning, even with ice.

Sigh.. no more 64+ stiffness racquets ever for me.

Its not the racquets...its either your form or over-use. You should probably take a break from the game and let your arm heal (4-6 weeks minimum).

s*** off people or from people? -_-

it's online, who cares :D

What I meant was... based on my observations over a long period on many threads and posts... why is it you seem to happily take crap from ppl... or to be precise... why do you allow ppl to talk to you in such a highly dismissive, and I'd even say sometimes bullying or otherwise unacceptable manner - and with an almost cheerful acceptance also?

Then again, if you truly feel "it's online, who cares" ... well... (SHRUGS SHOULDERS.) ce la vie, I suppose.
