Darn! I was hoping Monfils would win. Congrats to Almagro. We won't hear about him after clay season ends, so savor the moment.

Two titles....no?

Yes. Successful defense of his Abierto Mexicano Telcel title = back-to-back titles.

". . . The 23-year-old Spaniard is the first player to capture back-to-back tournament titles since Thomas Muster won four straight from 1993-96 in Mexico City. The tournament moved to Acapulco in 2001.

Almagro earned a career-high $300,000 and collected 500 South African Airways 2009 ATP Ranking points with his fifth ATP World Tour clay court title in seventh final. It is the second time Almagro has defended a title. He won in Valencia in 2006-07. . . ."

It looks like the post about thinking Almagro was Argentinean has been edited, but since I went out to find this picture in response to that post, here's the photo of Almagro with his teammates in the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics:

^^I was going to joke around and reference him with Nalbandian and their bellies...but had to stop myself.

I thought Nico looked quite fit during this tournament, and he certainly has what it takes to defeat the athletic Frenchman :)
