I mean this year should be extra exiting. I know some of you will say it's predictable and Nadal will win.

But you'll still think, hey what about Murray or maybe Roger the one that got away?

This thread is not to start debating who will win, but more like hearing if other people just can wait for it to start

The French is the least interesting of the Slams, we all know Nadal will dominate. Its only a matter of who his victim will be.

I like the French Open, personally. Actually, I'd say it's my favourite. It's the reason why Nadal's become my favourite player.

I am really excited for the French Open, but hopefully it won't be a Nadal-Federer final, again! I'm rooting for Nadal, and I'm hoping Djokovic can do well. And I am hoping, especially, that Murray makes the final and gets triple-bageled. That'd make my year!:twisted::twisted::twisted:

Djokovic can't win pretty and quickly on a hard court. So I can't see him grinding away at the French yet again. I predict retirement for that joker........

Well, I do agree with you that Djokovic probably won't do well at the French Open, relatively-speaking (he'll do better than 99% of the tour). I'm just hoping he does well because when he does do well, then it's tennis we can all appreciate. When he's playing poorly, I'd rather not have to watch him.

Also, I'm hoping Federer plays well, but I don't want to see him in the final. I'd love to see a real dirt-baller, a clay-court specialist, the hottest new thing on clay, play Nadal in the final. Someone like Almagro or Bellucci, for example.

That probably won't happen, though.

I think there's pressure for both Roger and Nadal, but for different reasons. It seems Roger's confidence has been shaken, and given the dismal outcome of last year's final, I have to think he's looking to redeem himself. If there is a rematch of last year's final, I can't imagine he has enough self-belief to think he can win, but my guess is he'd at least want to make a match of it. That alone might give him enough of a emotional boost to go into Wimbledon with some semblance of confidence.

For Nadal, I think his goal, although less complex than Rogers, is certainly no easy task. He's looking to simply keep the streak alive.

The thing is all streaks come to an end. For Nadal, if it ends this year it won't change the fact he'll go down in history as one of the all-time great clay courters. For Roger, however, if he loses early or even loses in the final again and fails to be competative, I wouldn't lay odds oh him winning Wimbledon. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he was ousted in the quarters of semis of Wimbledon.

At any rate it should be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I agree; not to mention, the Americans will be knocked out in the first week (as always), so no doubt that will bum me out a bit (yeah, I'm a homer). Don't get me wrong, the FO may be great for some people, but it's my least favorite Slam by far

Nah, you can't get 2 more opposite people mentally than Federer and the Rafa, they are like night and day. No let downs from the Rafa, too strong upstairs.

You conveniently forgot to mention Djokovic who was the second best claycourt player last season.

Nadal is going to win it anyway, but this is going too far.

If you don't want to talk about who is going to win then don't.

Hmmmm. No let downs huh. What would you call it when someone loses a match from 3-0 and a double break to a guy who hasn't taken a set off them in four previous encounters?

I agree it's a rarity, but it happened nonetheless.

Tenniswise I think Roland Garros is the most entertaining slam there is, but as far as predictability goes, this tournament has gone skyhigh as far as the winner is concerned, because it's a certainty that Nadal is going to win. It's just a question of who his victim will be..

I'm almost hoping that it won't be Federer this time, although I'm a huge Federer-fan.

Almagro? The one who lost 6-1 6-1 6-1 to Nadal in RG last year? No thanks.

And Djokovic will do well on RG. SF if he is going to be in Nadal's half for the 4th time in a row, or F is he is finally not.

Nice post but the only word you used I didn't agree with was "predicatable". Almost saying that Nadal is boringly predictable. No never in a million years!

Well I wouldn't call it a slam, that is for sure. It's kind of like the inverse of Del Potro. Del Potro very strong mentally in the nonslams but as weak as can be in the Australian Open, he tanked his encounter with Federer, basically was aiming at the bottom of the net just to get off the court. Inversely, the Rafa wouldn't ever let a meltdown happen at a slam, but in these lesser tournaments he is clearly not as consistent and a bit loose with his attitude, and that is the way to do it (don't get too serious in the non-slams, save mental fatigue for the slams).

Yes, to me RG is exciting tenniswise because I like clay tennis better than any other. And I don't care who wins it (because it'll be Nadal), I'll just watch the game: long rallies, sliding, angles, passing shots. etc. Hopefully Djokovic will get to the final. Last year he was much more competitive to Nadal than Federer. And we'll be spared another sobbing session. Two cryings per year are enough for me. When Djokovic loses, at least he behaves like a gentleman rather than a cry baby.

ill watch all the matches i can. its a slam so of course im excited, but i honestly hope even if Nadal wins he gets challenged this year so we have something to talk about and ponder for next year.

No!!! The French has always been my least favorite Major. Too slow. Points too long. "Point construction" almost absent. And the Nadal / Pierce / Shriekapova / etc. slow-pokes take even longer between points.

(But besides that, I love it.)

I mean last year people were even doubting that he'd even make it to the final much less win the whole thing. That's way more unpredictable. Honestly, I don't see how you can even compare the two. To be honest I wouldn't even matter how many times Nadal won the FO. It's my least favs of all the slams anyways.

IMO this is the most boring slam, as it's the most predictable. Rafa will win another FO, and the final will probably be another boring match. Wimbeldon is actually almost as boring to me. I like HC slams the most because we sometimes get surprises, like Tsonga, Murray, Gonzales, Djokovic over the years and not only Roger and Rafa there.

"point construction" almost absent? as mcenroe would say: YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!?

Personally i feel there is more point construction on clay then on grass.

On grass after the serve the server is mostly in control and he will most likely win the rally or he makes a mistake or a beautifull passing shot from his opponent and then he loses the rally.

On clay the server is less in control after his serve and the returner has a better chance of gaining control over the rally, and pressing the opponent into a forced error.

I guess anything praising Nadal's ability on clay is rubbish. It's your opinion and my opinion matters to. You don't just win 4 RG's in a row and not being given special status. Especially with how much better the athletes are these days.
