I guess he's the richest tennis player on the current circuit. But then he's been around longer than many of the other top guys.

Well, he just got married, has a baby on the way, and has a pretty great career. I think its safe to say he's fairly rich.

Lets put it this way if we took every member on this forum and added our incomes together we probably would still not come close to what Roger has made...but than again there are the rumors that Roger Federer is a member here. Roger probably a year makes what he earned in prize money from tournaments with all his sponsors. He doesn't really have to pay for anything and forget it don't forget the bonuses he gets for the commercials he does. Roger makes more money then he needs, yet I never hear about him spending it..a better question is what does Roger do with that money? Does anyone have a picture of Mirka's ring?

Outside of the top 100, the money isn't so plantiful and nobody knows who you are, relatively speaking.

Very true, players outside the top 100 (who are darn good, by the way) barely make enough to cover their expenses. I don't see why the top 10 make millions of $$$ while others who are just as entertaining to watch are barely making a profit. The difference in playing ability between two guys ranked #5 and #200 isn't as big as the money difference would suggest.

The ATP should make earnings more even for everyone in the ATP. Have the top players earn a little less and distribute it among the lower ranked players. They deserve it. This would be done by promoting the Challenger and Futures circuits, there are often very high-quality matches being played. Bigger crowds for those tourneys = more $$$ for those players.

He's very rich. In fact, I believe last year he made more money than any other player, despite barely winning anything.

Well, compared to Roger Rafa is a VERY poor man:)

At the end of his career Rafa will be the richest player of all time...
they all look poor compared to this.

Lets just say he's rich enough to be misunderstood at times. He can buy and do anything he wants. He'll always have eyes looking at him wherever he goes, everyone will want a piece of him. His whole life has to be planned out each day in advance. The media can't wait for that one moment he slips on or off the court. It's an impossible task to be under the microscope 24/7 and be gracious with smile. The more rich and famous you are, the more you seek and value anonymity. Seclusion is your friend.

Now with all that, he must try to create history racing against time. It's not easy being Roger Federer.

isn't Federer represented by IMG?

They usually take a cut of the prize money and endorsement deals don't they?

And don't forget the appearance money that never gets reported! You can only imagine how much he gets to play at tourneys in places like Qatar and Dubai...

And China loves him too...I won't be surprised if he was paid quite a large sum to play at the year-end event in Shanghai for the last few years...look at how he visited the Qi Zhong stadium when it was first opened...he went there to do a media appearance when the season was underway in US/Europe! and it makes you think why he played that particular year when he had a bad ankle...from memory he didn't need to play that tournament to protect his #1 ranking coz it was already secured a few months before?

What about the exhibition matches against Sampras in Malaysia, Korea, Macau and New York?

Of course it does, but Nadal has won 2 slams, and many MS titles, plus the Olympics, so I was surprised that in 2008 Federer still made more money than Nadal.

endorsments make a ton, and federer has a lot more than nadal.

and im pretty sure you dont get paid for winning the olympics.(well you dont get earnings at least, just from your sponsors)

Now that he got married with his manager he should be fine. Anyway, I am sure he can get a job if he runs out of money.:twisted::twisted:
I red on the net that he has around 150M$ in his account - obviously just a rumor I found somewhere. He is fine anyway.

If Rafa really wanted the USOpen title, he would have had it by now. I don't think he really wants it that badly.

I think he does want it, it's just that he's usually very tired by the end of the year after playing so many matches.

Sources plz?

Nike renew the contract with Federer last year in Feb/March. It was reported that the annual fee Federer will get is 13 million USD, but i would assume that thats the fee he will get if he stays No.1. As now he's No.2, i guess he still gets like around 10 million USD.

You can check it out in Sports Business Daily. =)
