notorious string question please help

Im a 4.5 and in the past ive used gamma live wire 16 gauge which I like however its getting too expensive to replace basically every 10 hours of play or so. Lately ive been using luxilon BB on the mains and a synth gut on the crosses but I can feel it in my arm which I don't like. It doesn't "hurt" but my elbow feels hot and slightly uncomfortable after each session. I don't want to develop any injuries. Any advice? Ive been thinking about getting a really cheap syn gut like the prince duraflex (4.95 per pack / 60 bucks a reel). That way it doesn't matter if I break them every week. Says its the #1 selling string in the world . . . anyone have experience with it? Also recommendations for cheap syn gut that I can string my whole racket with.
I think poly (even just on the mains) is too hard on my elbow.

my poly problems were minor and kept getting worse.
gosen 16 is good. lots of people use pgsd. maybe practice with the cheap syn gut and break out the poly hybrid for a match if you want.

If the poly is starting to bother you don't wait to see just how bad it gets before you take it out.

Try of hybrid of LWXP in the mains and a cheap synthetic in the crosses like Gosen.

Synthetic gut is cheap, but you may not even get 10 hours out of it. If you don't mind restringing once a week, then I would give it a shot. I did that at the end of last year when I had plenty of time on the weekends for restringing. Now that I have a 6 month old, I put Big Ace in the mains with a synthetic gut in the crosses. That lasts me about 10 matches or so.

Yeah I don't mind restringing. Its the price that gets me. Thanks for the advice guys.

I think Irvin's suggestion is a great one. Use the stuff you like (LWXP) in the mains, and an inexpensive synthetic of some kind (Gosen OG Sheep is a decent one, as is Forten Sweet, and Babolat Synthetic Gut, Fine Play or Conquest) in the crosses. You'll save even more by buying the crosses in a reel, and figuring out exactly how much you need per racquet. And it will play fairly close to the original string job you liked, but for just over half the price. And I totally agree with those that said you should stop using the poly ASAP if you've already had heat and pain in the joint! (It's very hard to "un-injure" your joints.)

icing after you play can help your elbow. i always ice my knee's and elbow after i practice

LOL - An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Stop using poly if it hurts and go back to what feels good. It may be a good idea to do some forearm exercises for the elbow too. Yes even if it does not hurt.

Tommy Haas has had two shoulder surgeries. I bet you will never see him using anything but natural gut.

I thought Tommy moved away from natural gut? Maybe his injuries will return!

I tried Luxilon BB but it did not agree with my elbow either. Big Ace is much softer, but if you want to stay away from poly, have you tried a 15 gauge synthetic gut?

obviously tw's player selection hasn't been fully updated.

i don't think haas uses kswiss anymore.

He did at Wimbledon. Did he stop this week?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I like the idea of the crossed synthetic guts. I already bought a reel of live wire but im going to buy a pack of a cheap syn gut from sports authority and see how I like it.

Yeah I definately notice the rigid feel of poly in my arm after a match.

You are killing me! Don't you think you could get a better deal at TW?

Do NOT buy at Sports Authority because they include labor when they sell strings. Order some off TW.

to the OP, starting out with Lux BB is probably the worst thing you can do. it's one of the stiffest polys around. their are many softer polys today that last at least 15 hours and feel great, especially with hybrids. Topspin Cyber Blue and PolyStar Energy to name a couple.

I order my reels from TW. I wanted to string my racket today so i bought the cheap synth gut from sports authority. Just 1 pack that cost 8 bucks. Sure i spent 2 extra bucks but I got it without having to order / wait 3 days/ etc. Now if the rain would stop I could try it out.

Im going to also order a pack of a softer poly to try out on the mains.

I totally agree. At least give one of the softer polys a shot. If it still causes soreness then you'll know that is not the type of string for you.
