Pro Players popularity and Racquets they use

I don't know if this has been asked before, but here it goes:

Do people like Pro Players more because of the Racquet they use?

Or do they buy the Racquet because a Pro Player uses it?

For example: Nadal and Roddick use Babolat racquets. Do people use Babolat racquets because of them?

Though most higher pros racquets are not ones you can buy off the shelf. The rest use anything that their sponsors give them to use.

I think so. I was in a junior tournment this weekend and about all the rackets were either babolats or k factors but who knows right?;)

But most seriouse pick the racket because it suits there game or there feel

Its all hype. Dunlop probally makes the best Quality of racquets in the world, but no one uses them. Its a shame but its true. You;re right just look at the Aero Drives and the K Factors at your local tennis club, and you can't tell me theres nothing wrong

Another way to look at is if a person owns a Babolat APDC, does that person like Nadal more? Or are people who are fans of Nadal, more prone to buying APDCs?

it doesn't matter how high quality the racket is, you're forgetting people like certain balances/stiffness/headsize/string patterns

some racket brands just cater to certain needs, thats all

i bought a prince o3 hybrid tour a few years back, only Peer was playing with it at that time. Later i traded the heavy thing out for a babolat cortex,, i shoulda bought what the pros i liked used to start with.

Hmmm.

I happen to have seen first hand some frames Yonex sent to a pro player. The grip molds on these frames were not centered on the graphite part of the handle. It's a subtle yet very important factor in quality control. Needless to say, the aforementioned player had the issue corrected.

I also found the same problem on one of the AG 100's I used to play with though.

I personally always am very tempted to buy pro player's racquets (what's under the paintjob). I'm telling myself "if they're using it, it can't be a bad stick". The problem is, most of these pros play with the same kind of racquet they've grown up with. I can't "grow up" with anything since i'm constantly changing...

For the past several summers I've strung and sold racquets at a proshop. Its my experience that very few players actually sell racquets but those who do sell a ton of them. I can't tell you how many totally raw or near beginner players that have picked up the K90 even though most experts would argue against new players using that frame. The Aeropro's popularity is also a testament to this for years before the shops biggest selling racquet was the Pure Drive but as Nadal's career gathered momentum the Aeropro has assumed that mantle.

Players like Roddick and Sharapova also have big enough names generate some interest and sales but I would be hard pressed to name other players who can really move product. I can't really ever remembering someone asking about many other top pros. Henin was the #1 player in the world for much of the time that I was working in the shop and the frames that Wilson claimed she was using never really generated corresponding sales.
